haha if you don't throttle the DPS you can survive quite nicely in instances, provided your tank isn't retarded.  Of course a retarded tank + a retarded mage is gonna = dead mage.  Why?  The healer keeps tank alive, tank death = party wipe.  1 DPS going down does not always mean a party wipe. 

I suggest you get a threat meter, and ask your tanks to do so as well.  Makes everything so much easier.

Umm...no, on the topic of the last Death Knight comment. First you need to be lvl 80 to start a quest line to unlock the Death Knight class. You will not turn your character into a Death Knight, instead you start a whole new character with a set lvl.

On this Mage discussion, however, I believe Blizzard is working on the BattleMage Hero-Class, it will allow us to wear Mail armor. I'm guessing if you choose the go with mail you won't be nearly as powerful with cloth...but thats the sacrifice you take to barely ever die against melee.

If they do make the BattleMages, I'll be stoked. Definetly worth losing dmg and mana to not being a punching bag to rogues in PvP!  xD

Don't know if I'm just jacked up or what, but the last interview I saw stated that the whole quest thing got scrapped.  You will need a character above whatever level they decide (I think they were considering somewhere between 50 and 70), then you will have the option to create a new Deathknight.

My main is a 64 ret pally, yes i know, you'll have to go holy to get asked anywhere. Not....Sorry about that should have said on pallys page...

I got bored so i decided to level a mage, enchanter, who is now level 28. My main beef is the fact that i'm still using a lvl 24 spells, as my main weapons, phyro & fireball and a lvl 22 fireblast. 

I thought that when i got to lvl 29 i would grind honor points and tokens, however i'm severly disadvantaged against every other class as i can guarentee that the rogue, warrior, pallys etc, etc wont be using lvl 22 weapons or level 24 weapons to try and kill me, Oh i'll have the lorekeepers staff and the starfaller wand, but i won't be hitting anyone with it i may use my want if im oom, but thats it.

I dont mind that there is 6 lvls between each level of spells but its where they put them they should be like scorch 22, then 28 so that when we go out in the BGs with our cloth covered bodies at least we have a chance of hitting them for some thing decent.

I know i get new phyro, fireball & fireblast at level 30, but what use is that in the 30-39 BGs, ok i'll be powerful for a level 30, but how many level 30's will be playing, and how easier will i be to kill for a well kitted out level anything.

Having said that i am really enjoying being a fire mage. I know you should be frost, but i just love those big numbers, I love it when you get that big phyro of on someone when your behind that log in WSG best crit is 436, now thats gonna hurt.

I'll have to learn to run away as i have developed a bad habit of mana shield fireball or phro, if i can get away with it, then not moving. which can be a bit of a mistake in PVP...LOL

dude, you're whining about getting handled in 20-29 pvp.  If you're a fire mage you tend to be a sitting duck for starters.  If one-target killing is what you want, go fire.  Frost will give you much more survivability because you can frost nova more often and cold snap, fast frost bolt to slow melee even more.

Plus, 20-29 is full of twinks!  If you don't have the best gear and enchants with 1500 health or more, sorry pal, you're gonna have your ass handed to you on a platter.  There are Rogues with 2k or more health at lvl 29 so good luck with dominating in bg's.  You have to do something over the top to make an impact in such a twinked pvp division. 

Make your shitty toon better, or just lvl him and get a 70 for god's sake bro!

Leather won't help that much....or prehaps not at all. You will get a little more armor but you'll still take a lot of physical damage from melee because you don't have the dodge chance of a rogue.

In fact if you look at the rogue's talent tree there are only 4 new skill levels at level 30 where as there are 10/11 on the mage tree depending on your talents.

Whats the difference between rogues L24 sinister strike, 7 extra damage, difference between L26 ambush, just 25 damage.

This is the point im trying to make plus they'll have some Lvl 29 weapon in there hand.

I was playing over the weekend and had a great time 51 wsg and 21 AB tokens and load of honor, 3rd or 4th kill charts and the damage, so its not the shitty tune its how you play it. There was a twinked mage in my team last night and i out damaged him and out killed him.

Because since the last post i have adapted into a mage, and i have improved, with play. 

So Fatty not every one has to get there character to level 70 to have a powerful tune, chill out dude were supposed be having fun.

for the previous text about the gap in fire spells...you do realize why that is right? for one your comparison to a rogues ablities is pointless due to the fact you are comparing one talent tree in mages to all of the rogues (SS is combat, and ambush is sub). also you get other new spells that do better damage at 28...true they may not be fire, but maybe thats something to think about if you wanna twink. maybe a respec is an idea? further more resistances doesnt raise that much within those lvl ranges, unlike armor that can drasticly be increased. there for you need more new melee abilities to make up for the armor increase. where as the increased resistance to your spells wont be as difficult to compensate for. fire is with out a doubt the largest burst damage of all the spells but just cause you are fire speced doesnt mean you cant use the other spells. start out with a frost bolt on and unexpected then unleash 2 possibly 3 fire spells before the opponent gets to you. if you dont want to respec and this still frustrates you so much then why not just lvl to the 30-39 BG. you say what use is the lvl 30 fire spells there huh? well ill tell you, the lvl 30 spells are completly worthless...considering youll have the 36 and 38 fire spells =P

I had actullay started to rethink my 20-29 bracket, as you said the higher 30-39 bracket most definatley suits us fire mages.

There are a couple of reasons, I intially started this mage alt to do my enchanting/ disenchanting so I will be able to access up to 300 enchants, I also have dropped mining and taken engineering which adds more pvp trinkets and cloth head gear, so again if I twink at 39 i will have access to engineering up to 315, being a gnome.

I have already started to buy so better gear in the next bracket I also managed to find green lense 10 stam with 34 firespell damage for 3g so i'm really happy about that.

Also bought some spell thread and when i get my soulbound stuff enchanted because alot of my new gear will be over 35 I can get the TBC enchants as well.

But your words of guidance have just about sealed my fate.

Since the topic is "Why us?" then I would like to say how I hate how low mages hit with unarmed. I mean, sure, mages are spell casters and should have a low meele power, but I hit around 70 with my staff and my crits with my fists are about 7. My brother's level 5 warrior hits about twice that. I like to train on all my weapon skills, and unarmed is important if you are Dis-armed, but I have to work on level 5-10's with my mana shield on just to train on it.

This guys is what NOT to do as a mage. Why on earth would u need to work on unarmed skills? And who the hell would disarm a MAGE??? And as for the unarmed dmg... have you heard of a wand? You know, its the thing that shoots shit when ur OOM... it fits in ur ranged slot. You should pick one up one of these days... that way when ur unarmed, you can WAND vs melee hit.

Anyone wanna take any wagers on what lvl this guy is?

I have many issues and one of them is that I like to have all my weapon skills way up. Because I am such a nerd, it gives me pleasure to see my unamred up at 166 with my swords and staves and wands, and if you have issues with my issues than you can talk to your local prostitute, because she is the only person who would listen to you rant and rave about me because she is paid by the hour.

Why in hell would you get ever disarmed... but.... I do not agree with the fact that mages are 2nd bestpvpers... Warlocks and HUNTERS are the ones at top, maybe s3 warrior after, and then mage....TBH Resilience really fucked up mages :S

If you want more armor on your mage, apply armor kits where you can, cast frost armor, and stack potions and scrolls. there's ways to add armor, but just remember they will take away from your DPS.

Positrack it seems you've gone thru the forums and given a lot of people really useless information. Armor on a mage (or any none tanking class for that matter) is utterly useless in PVE. getting an extra 3% reduction at the cost of hitting for 300+ dmg... are u high? its not going to save you from getting 1 or 2 shotted in any instance.

kinda backwards logic here: i know i can't kill the mobs befor they come and hit me so im going to stack armor so they don't hit me as hard... oops now i hit them for even less

i agree. with the armor u stacked instead of one hit youll get two hitted. instead of defense like tanks why not try offense like enchants- spell dmg.
get an agro meter if u out agro a tank.
putting defense on a squisy dps'er is ok if they're on the opposite faction
