I'm just wondering, why pick enchanting?
- You have to sacrifice all green drops that you get.
- It's expensive to level.
- You don't get anything "unique", as a alchemist you got a transmute cooldown you can make profit by transmuting. If you are a bs/leatherworker/tailorer/engineer you can do some things that is only useable by your proffesion and as a JC it's a nice bonus that you have the chance to get a rare JC recipe while you are questing or something and even if you don't make much money from it you can just gain some money by mining and selling it.
- You have to spam the trade channel and work hard just to cover up the expenses for leveling the enchanting up.
I understand if you are a raider then you have a nice chance of getting Mongoose recipe and can gain some nice money or if you are the guilds enchanter but otherwhise I don't get it really :S
And btw if you are gonna vote me down please tell me why I am an idiot and why this comment deserves to be deleted.
i made my lock a tailor and enchanter not understanding the dynamics of the WoW economy, i dont have a 'gather' profession unless disenchanting could be considered, but then you dont level up. I figured i could just make my own armor and give myself buffs, thats all i wanted, but now im at char. lvl 38 and enchant/tailor both about 190, and i wish i had chosen a gathering profession because i have like 5g to my name, just enough to train and not much more. I know some people make 100g easily by level 40. lucky for me i dont have to spend 100g to get a mount however. if i had 2 gathering professions instead, i would have plenty of money to buy armor from AH and enchants from trade channel. i'm going to stick with it tho to see how it goes at high levels
Tailor is pretty worthless untill highlevel unless you are in a new server (everyone needs bags ^^).
ive made around 50g/day @lvl 40s and 100g/day @lvl 50s with enchanting. just spending a few minutes a day at the end of a session to replenish your gold supply.
Cool nowaryide, what enchants did you sell?
I don't think he sold enchants... but I could be wrong.
There are other ways to make money with enchanting besides actually enchanting other people's items. :-)
I think I know what SarinaArathas is referring to ;)
I have definately made alot of money just at lvl 40.
But please continue to think that enchanting is not worth taking. That will mean less competition for me :)
As a profession to take while you're leveling early on, absolutely not. It will only sink your money while you could be using it on more worthwhile things. However, once you hit the 50ish range, it's very nice to have. Well, not so much enchanting but rather the "gathering" profession, disenchanting. Enchanting mats are always worth significantly more than their green quality counterparts. And why let a blue or epic BoP go to waste if no one needs it? Why not turn it into about 5 times its vendor value?
To prove a point, my main is a level 70 warrior and I have leveled up blacksmithing without mining purely by funding it with the money I make from selling enchanting mats. And that's substantial, on the upwards of about five or six thousand gold, and that's a conservative guess. Plus I have about 3 thousand left over, and that's WITHOUT farming. Also, if you are lucky enough to have any of the rare patterns, you can snag a lot of money from fees. I can enchant mongoose for anywhere between 30 to 80g with no questions asked, 100+ for soulfrost and sunfire, and easily 250 for surefooted (because it requires a primal nether), as well as a decent amount from other things like +spell damage enchants, +stam enchants, boar's speed sells ridiculously well, and savagery is ALWAYS popular.
Also when you are leveling up enchanting, you will typically have better gear (since you enchant it yourself!) which can really make you shine. This can make your playing experience more enjoyable. Also, you don't really have to go out and look for things to farm, which can be incredibly time consuming since, unless you're ridiculously unlucky, green or better quality items will practically fall into your lap when grinding or questing. Plus it helps when you have a crafting profession, as you can craft the items you need to gain the points you need to level and disenchant things that wouldn't otherwise sell well and make a nice profit.
And lets not forget the enchanter only perks, the ring enchants. While these may seem insignificant at first, ring enchants will last much longer than say the alchemy trinket or the BoP blacksmithing weapons (I've long since replaced my Dragonstrike and "Stun"herald with better gear, they're getting nerfed again anyways ><). You will always be able to put a total of +4 weapon damage (amazing for 2 fast weapons), +24 spell damage, +40 healing, or the +8 to all stats on a ring no matter the quality.
LIKE WHAT? Making wands? :S
yeah, disenchanting things end selling the mats you get.. like shards and strange dust astral essence ect ect
yes enchanting is worth it. at first it sucks and you have to mostly spend money, and ppl dont really like the minor chants. but when u get to lvl 200ish, and u start disenchanting all of your old green gear and the drops u will hardly make money off of on the AH(like when u get into the outlands and get all new types of gear), you start to sell arcane dust, eternal and planar essences, radiant and brilliant shards, etc. youll be making a buttload of gold and itll be worth it.
So basically, It's not worth getting straight away on a brand new character. If you got 2 gathering professions until about level 40 or 50 (if you can wait) you can unlearn one of them, take up enchanting, use your money from the other gathering professions to level up and make money selling the disenchanted mats and buff up your own armour and weapons to help you perform better.
Not exactly, you take enchanting to DE stuff so OTHER people can buy stuff for enchanters to give them enchants. Yes its kind of a strange system, but no stranger then an herbalist selling herbs on the AH to the guy who needs them so his buddy can make him potions.
I personally love enchanting, it has made me more money then I can recall, I powered my tailoring to 300 when I hit 35, long before BC came out, via enchanting.
Now at 70, I go into skettis or SMV and grind on mobs, get items, and make about 60g a day for a couple hours grind, in addition to cash and trash drops.
not only that but you sell the mats in the AH for the lazy people who have lots of money to buy instead of DE'ing stuff themselves. Yay lazy people!
Ok, I'm a leatherworker/enchanter, I was about lvl 40 when I dropped skinning 220 to start enchanting. Now I have both at 300 and just need to get to lvl 50 to profession again.
As a leatherworker you can make 2 items that can DE for higher selling mats then selling the actual item
- Nightscape headband
- Thick Draenic gloves
Nightscape headband takes 5 thick leather, stack sells for 1g50s in AH. Cost to make headband is about 37s plus thread... about 47s total. DE into 2-4 vision dust, stack sells for 5-6g, each vision dust is 25-30s, so DE headband is worth 50s-1g. You could get a nether essence from it, selling for 2-5g or small radiant shard selling for 4-9g. DEing for those is where the profit is from.
Thick Draenic Gloves takes 6 knothide leather. Stack sells for 6g so each knothide leather is worth 30s. 1g80s for leather and 90s for thread, cost to make is about 2g70s. You DE that and get 2-3 arcane dust(value 1.5g/each) or 2-3 lesser planar essence(value 1.5g/each) or small prismatic shards.
You just have to be patient buying in the auctions. That's how I had 300 at lvl 40 and 1500 at lvl 46. Then you can buy all you want.
yes it is, and yes there are unique things u can get from enchanting, like alchemy, u can get special ring enchants that can only be given to urself, and turn the item bop. also u can make money so it isnt a waste of a proffession, idk wat u guys are talking about its great for money, aquamarine signets for example, in my realm, sell for 4g and DE for small radiant shards which sell for 8g.
i gotta say, as a lower level char, enchanting can take awhile to build up. i started it on my lock and im like maybe 150 or something. took awhile, i wont lie.
however, i used to have mining and skinning on my warrior. skinning was wasting my time so i scrapped that one for enchanting. i know what your thinkin, "why? youre a warrior". but an easy way i found to make money once i got to lvl 60, and i even do it now, is to solo through dungeons, kill and loot til my bags where full and/or i got done, then id vendor off everything. then i realized how much reagents sold for on a regular basis. so i decided to pick it up for the sole purpose to DE everything then sell what i got on the AH.
since having done that, ive enjoyed it. ive managed to throw some good stuff on my gear that was helped me when fightin, and even though i keep all the reagents for myself and the guild, ive made alot of money for the simple fact i run through these dungeons alot more often. youd be suprised how much all that white gear sells for when its a higher lvl item.
i completely disagree, buying dream dust on the AH, i sell 3 greater stamina enchants.
bracers/shield/boots for 4g/6g/6g respectively.
dust required for these enchants is 5/10/10 respectively.
a stack of dream dust usually costs me about 6-7g.
so about every 2 enchants, ive made 5 gold. and people buy these enchants like crazy for their twinks. even high levels seem to buy greater stamina for some reason. going upto superior stamina is a huge price jump in materials, thats probably why.
either way, ive made more money off my enchanter doing this than any other profession.
Well my mage is a Tailor and a enchanter which works awsome. Just the other day someone gave me 2 gold to enchant a cheapy thing for them
on my first char. i became enchanter + herbalist. Enchanting was crap at the start and i would usually make money of my stacks of herbs. I disenchanted ALOT and leveld to fast for my enchanting so I was disenchanting mats that were used at a way higher enchanting lvl. After i bought my 40 mount I saved up about 40g and spent it all on mats I needed, then I caught up to what I was disenchanting and now its a sinch to train. If i'm need of money I occasionaly sell a few mats just to get a bit of cash. What I'm trying to say is enchanting may seem hard to train...but the higher level you are the easier it is to train and make money. There is however a couple of mistakes ive made. Without checking the AH i keep on disenchanting tons of blues I get as drops. Later to find out it was worth 50-70g at AH! You learn from your mistakes though and enchanting eventually pays off.
I have a lvl 36 almost 37 war on firetree (name Yemeni)
Makes money on herbs and enchants.
Enchanting is bad early on, but later it will get you a ton of money (Savagery, Crusader the good stuff)
Good God Desekrator you have the EXACT situation that Im in....
or was, Im now a LV 49 lock and throughout my character time, I have not been able to make more than 20 gold. Its very hard to disenchant something that you know will sell for a lot in AH but the reagents could be sellable too.
WAY too much thinking and math to calculate the profit amounts if I disenchant this or that,
especially since I make green+ cloth armor from tailoring, do I sell it or disenchant it?
ITS ALWAYS THAT FREKIN QUESTION GOING ON IN MY HEAD!!!!
Thottbot isnt exactly very acurate with the AH values of the reagents so is there some other website or Addon that can tell me a good average on reagent value.
I kick myself everyday for choosing enchanting since it eats away from my 'wallet' at extreme speed.
if I chose a gathering skill, I would have been able to probably 'hire' an enchanter to boost my gear.
Too late to turn back now and whatever, someones gotta do the enchanting..............
Yes Enchanting is really worth it. I also have a Tailor/Enchanter; your main staple for the start of the game is bags every body needs bags. With stacks of unbolted cloth being second. LVLing is a little slow but then again why did you pick a Warlock in the first place? Tailoring is handy at the upper lvls, I believe enchanting is that same way because what is really the point of enchanting an rare you are going to get rid of in 4 or 5 lvls.
i have a 45 shaman whos a enchanter amd IT HELPS i do +this +that on my self and Dsenchanting stuff that gets old/sell the mats make money i not rich and my enchanting is 270..PS this is my main deleted my other one (woops)still have over 150g
Enchanting is worth it, when your level 55+ you can grind in SM kill trash mobs, Disenchant blue drops, sell shards in AH and make some pretty good profit. I find Tiloring works pretty well with enchanting. When you start using magewave and higher, you will get mats and get a nice amount of gold for some enchants.
Im a low (lvl 24)mage/tailoring/enchant. I also have a war/blacksmith/mining lvl 43.
I have found that its really easy to lvl my enchanting. First, my "main" warrior gets tons of cloth he don't need since he only need cloth for a) donations and b) first aid. All excess cloth I send to my mage, who then create green items to be disenchanted. The same goes for the items I create using blacksmithing.
At the current lvl for the mage I find it difficult to sell the mats from disenchanting green items for any real profit.
But when I lvl my warrior in blacksmithing I only create green items, so my mage can disenchant them... I could probaly sell some of it on AH, but I won't since I would rather lvl my mage.
I think this works setup sweet. But I can imagine that if you only had one character and a profession of enchanting it would be quite difficult to lvl in the beginning.
I love the tailoring and especially since having my main sending all kind of (at his lvl) useless stuff I can lvl quite easy.
On a side note... I luv my mage! and I absolutely hate blacksmithing!
umm, enchanting is worth is because think about those rare drops that are BoP. Those shards are gonna cost 20g (Large Prismatic) As opposed to 5-10g only in vendor. Shards > weapon itself. Also, not a lot of ppl AH for greens.
My first character had enchanting and tailoring, and I made virtually nothing until I got to about level 40 with roughly 170 in each skill. I'm just learning how to make money it would seem, as before I was a total noob.
Now I'm making loads, disenchanting green drops yields enchant materials that will sell for more than the item itself would have done, and the amount of green drops I get means that I don't have to sacrifice levelling my enchant ability to sell mats too much.
This also stacks pretty well with tailoring since you don't need a gathering profession to tailor, and you can disenchant anything green you make for more mats to sell.
So far I haven't made a lot from selling actual enchants, probably because at my skill level theres nothing that people actually want.
I reckon I'll make a lot more when I hit those higher levels though.
I'm a lvl 28 pally and I do enchanting and tailoring..when do the cool things start coming? Both professions are almost 200.
I think one of the way to earn $ is to disenchant an eq and sell the shard in a high price in AH.
At higher lvls, you get tips for doing enchants actually. the cool ones start with fiery, which is always in demand..Then mongoose.
I have the perfict way 2 make a easy 1g. All you have 2 do is run RFC or better by yourself. you should get all the linen and blue/greens u can. After that u keep makeing the greater wand (it sells 4 15s) when u have done all of that go 2 tailor an make green cloths till u have no more linen left. disenchant and repeat the wand process. i did this only twice and i have 2g 90 enchant and im only lv 15!
dont worry later on you will love enchanting
I say no it isnt worth it exept if you have a main with good gold but if you do it for the money don't pick enchanting but it is worth it for just enchanting your own stuff just to make your character better then its worth it
Tip :
to make good money pick
mining
herbalism
also a good combination is :
encahnting
mining ( i woult pick this one myself )
Well try it it is very good. because u can make your items better like making your weapon a fiery weapon. you need to try it :).
I definitely think it is.. I just sold 3 stacks of strange dust for 5g each on AH.. I'm a lvl 20 with 150 enchanting
yes because when your enchanting lvl is high then u can sell them for like 9+g for each enchant
yes because when your enchanting lvl is high then u can sell them for like 9+g for each enchant
He was asking how to get it up.
you didnt half to say quiet playing becouse he asked tht
And even if you are lvl 24 run DM a bunch and get mats you
need and get it up and lvl 80 enchanting or so for lvl 24
isent tht bad. :)
I, myself, do enchanting for the ability to DE my own stuff when I replace it and DE'ing drops, enchanting my own stuff and my friends stuff, and to get the satisfaction of giving a stranger a rare or even not so rare enchant. I have probably made almost no money from it except for selling mats that I have way too much of. I do it for the fun. I guess it's all in what you're looking for. So, is enchanting really worth it? Yes, it is for me because it makes others happy! There are many other ways to make gold. Do what you like and the gold will follow.
Good Luck

ya uh to many comments to read all of them.som i just whant to say that i was a trailor/chanter. yes u do have to spam the trade channle and if u buy your own mats its expensive.i say make a 70,(if u don't it gets to hard to keap up) farm gold, then make a lot of stuff with talioring DE it that way u get your skill up, u don't have to buy expensive mats cuse u r also makeing mats in the process and get to keap drops from instances, runs or w/e .and wonce u get high enof to do those twink chants, SPAM THE HELL OUT OG THE TRADE CHANNLE!! then u chant other ppl gain a higher skill lv without buying or spending any money of your own.then to make money look at your chants, find common mats and get them from ah and spam the channle some more this time say with your mats and estimate how much money u spent on mats and charge them a lil more (ex. mats cost 40g , chrage 45 or evan 50g).i know of a bad scam to make a lot of gold fast, but it needs to many requirements and that u first must spend your own money first and in the end might not evan work so i won;t say :P.
P.S. i have done it regretably and made 35g in less then 15mins without farming.
hey can i unlearn my profession bc enchanting just isnt doing it for me.
