yes enchanting is worth it. at first it sucks and you have to mostly spend money, and ppl dont really like the minor chants. but when u get to lvl 200ish, and u start disenchanting all of your old green gear and the drops u will hardly make money off of on the AH(like when u get into the outlands and get all new types of gear), you start to sell arcane dust,eternal and planar essences, radiant and brilliant shards, etc. youll be making a buttload of gold and itll be worth it.

So basically, It's not worth getting straight away on a brand new character. If you got 2 gathering professions until about level 40 or 50 (if you can wait) you can unlearn one of them, take up enchanting, use your money from the other gathering professions to level up and make money selling the disenchanted mats and buff up your own armour and weapons to help you perform better.
