hey I just started a new account after leaving WoW for a while but with WoTLK expansion coming I decided to come back. Well my first toon is a Dreanei priest and im currently a miner/JCer and was wondering should I stick with it. I have a lvl 70 mage friend who is willing to port me to the Exodar to train but is it too difficult to lvl with and make a profit? If so what should I drop it for. I just don't want it to be like trying to level up with enchanting. 0.o

It's not too easy to make money with JC until you start getting some of the journeyman level designs. Some sell fairly well meanwhile some rings/necks just suck and never sell. I ended up having an enchanter DE like a dozen rings in one go (altho you can still sell the enchanting mats or put them to use). VERY expensive to grind, since some of the later gems can get pricey (10-20G on my server for sapphires, azerothian diamonds, huge emeralds, etc.). Being able to make your own trinkets like Figurine: Ruby Serpent, or Figurine: Golden Hare, i thought was pretty nice. Once your skill is over 300 and you can start cutting gems, money making gets easier.
It pairs really well with mining, frankly i dont see how peeps could afford to do JC without being a miner. Prospecting helps cut into the gem costs assuming you mine the ore, but the gem(s) you get are randomly chosen based on the ore you prospect. If you are willing to put in the time once mining takes off, then it shouldnt be too difficult to have surplus G's in the bank. Paired with enchanting tho :S, thats gonna be hard.
I just put a Mithril Pendant (Jewelcrafting lvl. 20 I think) in the AH for 40s buyout... sold within 5 min.
It's a pretty lucrative prof. compared to what other crafting lvl. 20s make.
It is a good proffession, but keep in mind having an enchant alt would make it far more profittable. the pendant mentioned where it was sold for 40s would possibly be worth 1g+ with disenchant. (use enchantrix and actioneer)
i found myself doing quite well starting out with jewelcrafting. I make more money than i would have if i had been a leatherworker or a blacksmith thats for sure. But as the person said before, it's nice to have an alt that can just DE all the rings. On Smolderthorn, some rings only sell for 50s when they take about 1.5g to make and it makes it much easier to have an alt DE the rings or whatever so you can see for close to what it cost to make. But overall Jewelcrafting is a great profession and it makes the game much more fun in my opinion.
I made considerable profit at the low levels. By level 15 I was making a profit of 20 gold a day. I did this pairing up Jewelcrafting with Enchanting. Both skills are now above 265 and I'm a level 44 Draenei Shaman. The trick to my server was buying copper or cheap. Turning it into delicate copper wire. Then I would buy malachite cheap. Then make Malachite Pendant. It's the first necklace that I knew to make. It only adds +2 agility, but it's usable at level 13. I placed buyouts on them at 1 gold 15 silver each. They sold like crazy. It cost about 10 gold to buy all the mats needed, but I would make 20 gold from selling. Just do that a few times and it's easy to make money.
The hard part was making money/profit as I leveled up the skill. Enchanting at this point makes me no money, except selling the mats. As stated before, crafting items that don't sell can be disenchanted to earn back some of the cost. As for what did make profit, I've found 4 consistant things so far. Malachite Pendant - buyout at 1 gold 15 silver Brilliant Necklace - buyout at 4 gold 15 silver Golden Ring of Power - buyout at 10 gold 95 silver Aquamarine Signent of the . . . - it's a random enchant so it depends on what's made. Anything that adds agility I can sell for more. Tiger sells for the most with the +8 agility +8 strength going for a buyout of 16 gold 95 silver, +8 agility +7 strength going for a buyout of 15 gold 95 silver, and the +7 agility +7 strength going for 14 gold 95 silver. This is how I made consistent profit on the Dethecus realm.
Moonsoul crowns also sell very well. I get anywhere from 10-18g each for them. Great cash cow!!
i started JC at like lv 10 cause i am a dranei and i am lvl 90 JC and i seem to make a good amount of money. I dont try to lvl it up a lot and spend money on it. i just create things when i get enough mats for something from mining. then i go into sw or IF and post it in the trade channel and continue to post it for about 10 minutes. if it doesnt sell then i put it in the AH and sell the stuf for bout 75s each and they sell fast.(and these are lvl 90 and below items). i would strongly recomend this and mining together. however, if u rly want to make a lot of money give ur main mining and herbalism and make an alt with JC and alchemy. That way u can make money from 2 lucrative profesions.
