Personally I love doing battlegrounds and owning other players, it's funner than grinding that's for damn sure.
Why do you PvP?

(Extra-)
What was your favorite PvP experience? Ex: I got to the top of the leader board 10 times in a row, got battleground leader 5 out of those 10 times and we won every single time! Or: I camped this noob like for an hour, you'd think he'd just wait the 5 mins?

Honor Points and Pre-BC, the titles. The sheer fun of seeing an enemy run after seeing the High Warlord title above your head is worth it. WSG and other large-scale battlegrounds are fun because it is your skills versus their skills, the accumulation of what you've done OUTSIDE of the battleground (skills, strategies, gear, L2P your class in a different or more effective way) against THEIR accomplishments. Furthermore, PvP isn't easy. You aren't fighting a dumb, scripted AI mob that has a set of actions it'll take at certain times. You see it enough and it loses any vestiges of a challenge. In PvP you are fighting another person, they are capable of all the same things you are and at anytime can do something unexpected (I remember the first time I saw a decent pally Bubble and then bandage) and you have to react in a dynamic way to counter. It requires constant attention and quick thinking when something unexpected does happen.

To test out skill and talent combos and see what sneaky tactics I can think up.

Also its interesting to plan out a char from level 1-70 in advance and see how much theorycraft you got right and how much you didnt and how much crap many players talk about other player's classes due to not having played them^^.  Then again quite a few players dont seem to know their own class all that well either.

I think it makes you more effective as a player. The aforementioned Bubble/Bandage trick is useful in leveling. I actually got a kick out of owning a pally that was one level higher three or four times because they didn't Judge Crus to make their consecration spamming more effective, and then the fifth time we started fighting they learned and judged Crus like I had been doing to them in the previous fights.

Plus in PvP where else can you see people try crazy tactics like Melee Hunter vs Geared Warrior, or get a 5 cap in AB and run into the middle of their GY, bubble and dance until the game ends?

I was running around in the 19 WSG and there was an Orc Warrior that had a macro for "point at enemy" say "ZIDANE'S HEADBUTT" and then he'd charge them. That's just funny ass stuff.

Stuff that you wouldn't get just doing PVE.

Because PvP makes this game worth playing. PvE sucks, so borring, anyone can kill a dang wolf its not challenging at all, only reason I even do pve is just to level and what not.

More challenging. One mistake could tip it either way, comes down to talent, your own know how, luck and gear.

My favorite pvp experince would have been defending ss. Was a 70 feral druid, with my sister a 50 feral. Together we owned a 70 holy priest, 70 prot pally, 50 lock, 50 pally, 20 mage.. and pve turtles *poked mage to death* lol.

Holy priest died so much he surely had 2 min rez cool down, more then once, lol.

At the end i'd spot him rezed in a bush/tree/etc, going to heal the prot pally, i'd feral charge and finish him before he could get out a heal. At the end the pally made a run for tarren mill. i went in, expecting to die, killed her but got out alive lol. (seriously? running away?)

I died once, and i think my sister died five or so times but I was able to keep the pally and priest off her. Not easy as the 70 pally wanted her badly! *cough* little sister heals me, as the holy priest healed the pally!

My sister will tell you, at one point they rezed near to each other.. and it was like trying to slap each other back to reach me and the pally, to heal lol. the battle lasted 20-30 min.

^ lol that's pretty funny.

I'd have to say one of my favorite PvP experiences would have to be when this level 54 orc hunter killed a quest-giver in Winterspring, I saw that the place was under attack on the local defence. I was like right next to the place. I jump onto the top of one of those ruined buildings and go into cat form, the stealth. I watch him finish killing the guy and go right next to him, about 10 seconds later he's dead. So I start to camp him, this went on for at least 20 minutes. I killed him like 13 times got like 70something honor from him. He tried just about everything to get away from me. At first he was trying to kill me, that didn't work even though he tried hard to. The one time I actually let him heal himself and get ready, must have thought I left or something =P. Anyways to make a long story short, after I stopped getting honor from him I stood there and waited for him to rez. I waved at him, thanked him, then went back to questing. You'd think he'd just wait for the flag to wear off. Man I love PvP.

I PvP because it's exciting, challenging, and I get to work in a group.

My favorite PvP moment was running the winning flag to the horde base on my warlock, without a vw sheild. I used CoEx to slow down alli chasing me, plus shadow ward and spellstone to remove dots and magic effects.

I remember running past a human priest right after leaving the alli base. As I approached my hair stood on end, but her back was turned and I ran right by without being noticed. She was the only one who stood a chance of stopping me too.

Edit: Thought of another one. Got into a one on one fight with a human lock in WSG and the fight was incredably close. I took her out, but with less than 200 health and three ticking dots to show for it. I almost let myself die before I remembered I had trained shadow ward. Popped shadow ward, nutralized the dots, bandaged and drank, and I was back in the battle right as rain. =)

One of the many good pvp experiences i've had was actually a duel. I was my 29 holy paladin fighting a twinked 29 holy paladin. (He had +healing and spell damage to gloves, wepon, + stam to sheild + spell damage and healing to bracers. The works.) He was useing a sheild and mace, i pull out my non enchanted paladin quest mace and own him 4 times, jsut with the use of VERY well placed heals, and the fact he Conc spamed without putting SoC on me. Beat him three times, and the best part is, he diden't whine about it! He even learned a thing or two, came back later on with a diffrent mix and whooped me into the floor.

PS. It's still a little sad that this was a Duel.. all of you guys had great BG moments, i have a 49 warlock twink (Sussyy) Whom i love playing with.

My favorite time with her was a game where the horde decided to turtle from the start, i ran in, mass feared, CoEx'd all 6 of them, and ran the flag.  Most embaressing part for them is it worked all 3 times!

I was on my UD mage (level 41 or 42 at the time) in Grom'gol Base Camp when I hear a plea for help from some BE about a 41 druid causing trouble in Nesingwarys. So I mount up and stroll down there, kill the druid and send him on his way. I then killed all Alliance in the area.

After a while the druid comes back. I quickly kill him and then see a ?? paladin. I tell all the lowbies around me to "run like **** theres a ??!" As I mount and boost it.
After a minute or two I go back to sneak a look to find that 3 or 4 level 30-38ish's putting up a valiant but losing fight. Amused, I let it go on for about 30 seconds, then I finish it. The lowbies cheer for me and go back onto their questing but I decided to stick around and see what this paladin was really made of.

To simplify the rest of my story, my level 41 undead mage corpse camped a level ?? human paladin by Nesingwarys until he logged out. I checked him out on the armory and he was level 52.
It made me lol irl.

here's another one!

I made a Blood elf Pally for the hell of it because I wanted to see how the horde is.

I got him to level 12 and I was bored so I went to a 2v2 skirmish.
Well, I got into a game. It was me (level 12 BE bally) vs. 2 night elf hunters w/ pets!

One of them actually ran from me in the arena (wtf?) and the other was kicking my ass. I owned him, healed and killed the other.

I was like.. "damn!"

We found this 28 paladin and  I was a paladin with my warlock friend and we were lowering his health very fast. So hes like oh crap and when he has like 1% health he jumps of the cliff and dies commiting suicide lol. There was also this gnome warlock who everytime he swpned or I saw him hed die so fast cuz i kept killing him. PvP is a great thing to do and very fun. One of my friends doesnt like Pvp and im like how can someone hate PvP? lol. I take the PvP chance to do 1 important thing. KICK BUTT.

for bgs, honor points and marks for easy lvl 70 epic gear, especially for weapon-reliant classes. long and sometimes tedious but easy--no having to join raiding guilds that only take CERTAIN tanks and healers, no having to have a good group and still end up fighting over drops, no astronomical repair costs 'cause of whatever reason your group wiped for the millionth time, and no long waits for any pugs...good or bad. and even if u lost a bg in mere minutes, it's a fast and easy mark.

as for world pvp and low lvl town raids, nothing beats sneaking and ambushing another player from stealth and one/two-shotting him...over and over again or if u're not a stealther, just simply preying on the weak. they barely know what hit them. and then when they rez 3 seconds after they die, u know where to go... u don't need to put forth ALL your skill and concentration to have fun in this case--just relax and have fun.

its fun running AV on alliance, we run a strong Offense and can usually win so the bread and butter of honor points is earned in AV.  WSG and AB we usually lose if you just join up in the next available.

like everyone else its a way to get level 70 epics and make a solid toon more effect for raids later on in your guild.

I am in a guild at the moment but I don't raid with them and I have never been real serious into raids, once my lock is bottomed out on pvp gear, I'll see if I cant get into raids more often, if not, I will work on my next toon.

the bg's are fun because each run is alittle different depending on what your opponent decides to do.  its not as bad as spamming the same instance over and over and killing the same old trash mobs in the same places.

I don't mind gettin killed, it bugs alot of players, but I understand each class has its strengths and weaknesses, so I focus on what my lock can do best (destro) and get to the boss fights to assist.

happy hunting guys!

For fun, of course. Nothing like going on the AV bridge and spamming SoC for massive numbers.

On a side note, PvP taught me to use keybindings, macros, and to mouse turn. Also how to react faster.

Better question:

Why do other people PvE?  The balance in the game is so good that it doesn't make sense to me to waste it on killing computer mobs that run straight at whoever they "hate" the most.  /yawn

I read about the new tournament servers for arena, and really wish there was a battleground equivalent.  I hate questing and levelling, and love the pvp game.  If I could create level 70 characters that could ONLY do instanced battlegrounds and/or arena, and only against other level 70s with everyone getting free gear, I would do it in a heartbeat.

NOTE TO BLIZZ- add battlegrounds to the tournament servers!

PvE is a huge time sink.  Now that I'm out of school and working, having to take hours and hours of PvE time to level characters just so I can have a satisfying PvP experience is a real turn off.

The game is amazingly balanced.  Despite the differences in classes' abilities (which make some 1v1 matchups imba - lock v. mage for example), in a large group such as on a battleground or arena everyone can contribute in their own way.

The biggest balance problem in the PvP game is gear dependence and the time commitment it takes to "earn" the gear.  The upcoming tournament servers and tournaments will be interesting because gear is "free."  If the game is imbalanced once gear is "free," then we will see every progamer playing the same class.

So I guess the class balance question will resolve itself somewhat in the near future.

mages can beat locks.. and yes druids are over powered but they are getting a nerf on lifebloom in the next patch.
if you want an over powered class against mage the just look at the disc priest.
i pvp cause it takes much less of my time then raiding and requires much more skill and concentration than raiding. hence when i beat that sl/sl lock or pwn the warrior druid combo in arena against all odds i get a bit of a thrill. raiding ssc tk mh or bt for like 5 hours however (not to mention kara :S) makes me feel like slitting my wrists.

U also pvp to kick the livin piss out of the opposing faction :)

I used to enjoy PvP, and do it for fun and to get titles (but BC came out when I was jus a Corporal). Now it's just crawling with twinks and isn't fun unless you want to spend 2000g on a lame lv19 rogue... I just do it for the gear, so I can do more PvE raids. It's really boring so I don't do it much, though. =\ BGs, that is, because no one does world PvP anymore.

Sooo... I basically just do it to get some nice equips, though I don't know where to turn my honour points in and I don't want to asked 'cause I get bombarded with "l2p noob" comments. =P

For me, to do well at PvP is a goal, because everything else is easier (maybe more time consuming, but skill-wise, easier).

If I can do PvP, then everything else naturally falls into place. Yes, even threat in PvE, because that mechanic's so damn simple to understand.

Its a simple game, the mechanics work in a way of almost rock paper gear. You shouldnt beat a geared up opponent but should beat classes your better against. Take for example mage v warrior, what mage loses to warrior? although racials and skill pose random tactics not always seen, the same unforutate event always occurs when fighting a counter comp in the arena or counter class in a duel. Coming from a 2300 2v2 3v3 and 5v5 i can tell you pve takes little skill, as long as u have half a brain you can do that, but when fighting other players it all comes down to your experience in the matter and how well you have prepared to fight anything. Tip dont be afraid of losing, be afraid when some1 stays at 1600-1700 all season, its shows they dont have that full sized brain you need to atleast progress in skill!
