Ever since I started playing WoW I've been envious of the UD racial mount in a way no other mount can make me feel. Kodos are okay, wolves are nice, raptors are so common they've started to annoy me, but the skeletal horse has always been my favorite.
So not so long ago I started a lock and learned that I could get a mount and riding skill in one package for just 90s. Wow! But my first thought was not about how cool it would be to ride a flaming pony, it was how awesome I would look on a blue skeletal horse for which I would have to pay only 9g. Now that's not to say I won't ever use my felsteed. What can an ememy do but tremble when the felsteed comes charing up a hill? Felsteed will be my PvP mount, but for road trips I want nothing more than the pleasure of oggling that gorgeous blue skeletal horse.
Any other locks feel this way?
Felsteed is nice, but the true awesome is the dreadsteed, there is no mount cooler. And I know at 40 9g was still a lot lol.
That's a matter of opinion. For me, the skeletal warhorse is 10x cooler than dreadsteed. Both together are the best land mounts in the game, but you can't beat crackeling hooves, purple smoke, and demonic horns imo.
Another thing to consider is the atual "summoning" where all other mounts are all of a sudden you're on a horse, the dreadsteed comes forth with a fiery explosion and the demoing cry of the steed.
I never use Locks mounts.. cuz everyone runs away when they see a lock(on lock mount) coming.. and i have to run after to kill them.. with a none lock mount is not that easy to know whos coming
Just remember that summoning a lock mount takes up some mana (but not that much) so I use my undead mount for PvP and lock mount for PvE
It only takes about 100 mana. I have over 3000 mana on my lock (a bit much, I admit I need more stam) so it barely makes a dent. I do agree that seeing the felsteed does have a certain affect on the opposing faction. =)
Okay, so I just got my little pwnies a few days ago. I started out using the skelly a lot, then moved onto the felsteed (felly?). I think I'll just keep switching off so that when I get bored with one mount I'll move to the other. It's still really hard for me to decide which I like better.
There's another, slightly trivial, thing to take into account, an UD warhorse takes up a bag slot, where the fel/dread steeds do not.
i say the dreadsteed buts prolly cus the damn qeust costs mucho gold gold
also one other thing is if i recall right a skelly horse is only 50% run speed, felsteed is 60%.
aren't all lvl 40 mounts 60% run speed?
Yes, all lvl 40 are 60%, all lvl 60 epic are 100% additional.
Not sure what the point of buying a skeletal warhorse if you're wasting a slot, paying 9g, and getting no benefit (extra speed - I hear it's actually a LOSS of speed, extra armor). 9g to look cool, hey, it's your $15 a month.
I'll pass. Dreadsteed, here I come.
And who was the postie that said 3K mana was a bit much?!? 3K above lvl 50 is noob-ish. I sure hope that toon is lower than lvl 45!
I have 4K i think at 60, and I'm in SERIOUS need of new gear! Price to pay for trying to save gold and working on quest grinding for leveling (not doing instance's) versus working on stats / gear.
When you include training and mount cost the dreadstead is cheaper by about 200g, more if you have friends to help with the item gathering portion.
Secondly, come on look at the two. Yes one is a skeleton horse with a nice whispy smoke effect. The other is a hellish devil horse covered in horns and flames. It should be no contest.
The dreadsteed is about warlock class pride. Its our mount. Its not just go up and buy it, it takes work, thats why it is and always will be the coolest mount in the game.
ALRIGHT i compleatly agree although on one point i lowered my cost for dready? by buying ahead of time most of the stuff i needed also guildies helped alot!
exactly you end up paying almost just as much for the iteams to do the quest. then u have to try and find a group that wants to go into the two instances that you have to go into bacausee nobody wants to do them anymore. SO it is up to you. I am gonna wait till I am like lvl 68 to do the quest. I am lvl 62 now so i have a bit of time... but am gonna do it.
there is nothing that says you can't have both, as long as you do the dreadsteed quest (level 60). you'll get the felsteed and basic riding skill in training (level 40). then you can buy the skeletal horse and use whichever suits your fancy at the time. since the felsteed is a summon, you won't have to take up more space in your inventory.
I just got my dreadsteed a couple days ago and I am a happy camper. I would be lying if I told you that I would do that whole quest chain over again though. The final bit in Dire Maul is absolutely atrocious even with 2 70's helping me with the summoning. We had around 5 elite Felguards running around by the end of it and it was pandemonium. I feel really bad for the hardcore locks that did this Pre-BC. Kudos to you. With that said, I am the proud new owner of a Dreadsteed, still the sickest land mount in the game IMHO.
Ya, regarding the comment about mana abouve. Im at lv 64 with almost 6k and all greens so castin the felsteed or dreadsteed is nothing to worry about.
Clear Stratholme and hope for a lucky drop of the riding crop from the last boss there. Very nice mount. I"m not sure if it's identical to the UD epic racial or a lil different but it's a hell of a lot easier than trying for exaulted with them for that mount if you didn't roll UD.
i have always felt the exact same way. i've always hated that the fel steed has no saddle or anything, and nothing looks more homo then riding around bare back in skirts. i don't like the dread steed cause i think it looks dumb with junk shooting out of it's head and neck but oh well. very reduced mount price :D
just got my dread steed today, lvl 62 and i love it
