Is it a waste of time to only take one of the two professions, or do you need both to make any money?
If you choose only alchemy, are you going to spend a ton of money buying the herbs to make your pots?

if you hit auction halls then some alchy pots you can sell for more than the herbs sell say for instance the swiftness potion its a hot seller for its pvp use so if you watch the ah the mats you can get for say 4g a stack each thats 8 gold for the two then you can sell 4 stacks of the potion 3g each so 12g minus auction cost thats 3g+ profit of course it all depends on your server and what the pots are selling for. could be much less! would take forever to farm that much. just watch the ah see what moves and learn what sells hot. if you pick up minning you can make a ton off of ore and gems. i love alchy cause im always using pots.

I guess that they are, mostly because you use most of the herbs you gather in the pots you use. Once you run out of use for any herbs/pots you have, just send them to AH, you'll make great money.

Of course its cheaper and easier to make ur potions if u r collecting the ingredients already while ur questing etc,
The money u make does justify the small investment of going ther + getting the stuff,
I think people get too greedy at the AH, thats y they don't sell that much, i am always reasonably priced and sell on average 8 out of evry 10 items that i list,
There's not many people who want 2 pay 10 gold + per potion, be sensible now!!!
if u didn't have herbalism or an alt. that pikked herbs it would get incredibly expensive 2 get all ur skill points buying stuff @ the AH!!!!

Yes they are married. If you want to make any money choose some other profession. I think collecting herbs on the road and making some potion from it is just a great example of role playing. Like mining and blacksmithing or else. Herbalism/Alchemy is the most fun pair in my opinion.

Eh, the most fun/enjoyable "couple" IMO is mining/Engin. You get so many toys including jumper cables, rocket boots, these badass helms, and ROFLCOPTERS!

Alchem/herb would still be 3rd for me behind mining/BS just cuz you cant make a Stormherald or a Lionheart champion to beat down nubs with... too bad my BS is only 290 =/.

bottom line is that herbalism is a good individual money maker, ive seen fel lotus for up to 30g each.  and its hard to go wrong with alchemy no matter what you are.  raiders need flasks, everyone has a meta socket to fill now and then(JC on first day of a new season is like christmas), and can you ever have too many potions?

well would u like to pay 90g for the "primary" resources to make the potions, and sell the potions for 60g with a 30g loss.

      OR!!!

would you rather spend some time finding the "Primary" resources, make the potions and sell for 60g With a 60g Profit

I think that everyone knows the answer to this

well except for the retard who started this poll!!!

ive chosen skinning and alch, because some people dont really like mining or herbalism, because it is harder to get the skill up, so my thinking is that i get the leather, sell it then buy the herbs for the pots :)

find the above comment far from the truth as i maxed herbing in 2 days start to finish alch took about 4 days after that so a weeks worth of work to max both and now i can make 50g a day from 1 hour farming herbs and selling them in AH or i kit my Guilds kara team out with pots and i pick up on average 8 fel lotus a week easy money

I have got enchanting and had herbalism with it .
After i got two banking chars filled up with all the herbs i gathered all the time i switched herbing for alchemy.
Now i got enchanting on 375 and getting alchemy to 375 tonight.

When i need to make pots i only make them for myself (reason for alchemy is the redeemers alchemist stone)
So i dont need to buy loads of herbs that way to lvl up.
