NOTE: Thread is about NEWBIES; people who are new to WoW. Thread is NOT about n00bs; people who are just plain dumb.

What funny things have you seen newbies do? What do you do to mess with them? How do you help them? Talk about it here!

I once saw a level 9 BE hunter wearing a cloth dress with +1 spirit in Org. When I asked her why she was wearing cloth she said it was the best piece of armor she could get for her level. Heheh... I calmly explained about how much better leather armor was for her, what stats she should use. I saw her again a few days later in XR wearing full leather armor with +agility and stam. =)

Then there was the warlock in Tarren Mill with the staff that did +nature damage. I don't remember what happened to him, but it was a funny sight.

I saw a level 11 pally walking through SW one day. I went up close to see what he was wearing. It turned out he thought that cloth was the best thing for him to wear.  So being the nice guy I am gave him some old cloth gear I had had in my bag.
The next day he was shouting at me cause i tricked him.  So he started to follow me.  So I went to to booty bay. After we were down towards the middle I got on my mount and rode away.  Then just to be nice when he finaly got down to booty bay I got him a Mood ring and a Rose.  He thought that they were so cool that he gave me all his money(which wasn't much). It just happens that he gets really PO at me, because he thuoght that the ring would actually change colors.

Thought of another one and I haven't got anything better to do so I'll post it now. This was on an RP server. My friend and I gave up on RPing in game a while back, but I keep a character there because the stuff you see is just really out there.

Anyway, I was in Darkshore and saw a druid around level 13 or 14 named--and I am not kidding--Lunata. Never before had I seen a player name that so obviously screamed, "I'm an eleven year old girl."

My character was about the same level as her and already had a few greens from simple quests. "Lunata" was still in greys, most of them under level ten, though for some reason she decided to give them armor bonuses. And instead of using spells, she meleed. With her little grey dagger. Not even knowing where to begin, I buffed her once and walked away.

Anyway, earlier this year, I rolled a BE and went questing in Tirisfal Glades, at the starting town for Undead.  I went there and a level 3 undead kept following me and yelling at me "Go away!  Go back to where you came from!"

I ignored him and smiled as I quested there.  He kept at it and I said, "Boo!  I'll kill you and your little doggy too!"

He kept following me, so I challenged him to a duel, pretending he can really kill me that way.  So I 'died' with 1 hp and he laughed, and said he'll get others to kill me too.  I cried on his shoulder and he said "Sick!  Go away or I'll kill you again!"

[smiles]

All that lead to finally lead to telling him we're allies, otherwise, the guards would probably have killed me already.  He stopped right then and there and logged out.  I guess he felt embarrassed?  ^_^

its so nice to hear you talk sweet about newbies. Has it occured to you it might be small kids, not very good in english and/or not really understanding the game yet? but stealing candies from kids are ok, right? or at least fun.
It might even be that a piece of cloth looked better than a lether armour.

plz do not come up with a nerd argument like "...its a 12year-limit" or "..if they are playing the game they can have it.."

/Crippa

Yes, it has occured to me that small children play this game, but not all of them are newbies. It has also occured to me that the majority of people who play WoW have a poor grasp of English, or at least pretend to. I'm not encouraging people to make fun of newbies. We all smile when kids say something funny, so why not now?

"It might even be that a piece of cloth looked better than a leather armour..." Personally, when I'm bored, I like to go to the auction house and mess around in the dressing room. If I actually bought and wore the coolest outfits I came up with, I would probably be owned by someone half my level.

Speaking of gear, back when I first started playing I didn't pay attention to the stat values on anything I bought. I just looked at the armor. In my mind that was the only important stat. When I was leveling in Mulgore I probably sold some of my quest greens in favor of vendor gear with higher armor. I'm glad I eventually came around, but I think it's a common newbie mistake.

Now I hate making long posts (though I always seem to...), but the last thing I want to say is that the majority of newbies learn from their mistakes and "grow up" to be decent players. This is partly because other players they may not even know have the balls to go up to them and tell them what they're doing wrong and, sometimes, how to fix it. If nobody told them how to play WoW would be filled with tanks who don't know how to tank... er, that is, filled with more of them than we have already.

and i was goin up to the zeppelin to orgrimmar and i didnt know how to get on it so i said 'how do you get on it?' and sum woman said 'you step on it lol'

then on my night elf i made the newbie mistake of going after a level 4 dude when i was level 1....i did die which is pretty much unheard of until level 6ish as the starting areas are so simple! and i never used the auction house until i was level 17 i bought all my armor from vendors and i had a full tanned leather set and it looked pretty cool but then i realised that u need stats rather than looks lol

so if i find a newbie now im going to help him/her....which i kind of do anyway cuz i enchanted stamina onto low level leather then went to night elf starting area and gave it to all the people who wanted it....i do enchants for free for low level people cuz we were all low once!

I'm not sure if this person qualified as a "newbie," but the experiance I had with him was just plain weird. This happened on my lvl60 tauren druid.

I was fishing for Oily Blackmouth off the northern coast of Stranglethorn when I noticed something odd swimming out of the corner of my eye. When I took a closer look I realized it was a level 10 undead rouge swimming up the coast toward Westfall. I ran along side him until he was close enough to buff. After I buffed him he paused, then swam to the surface. I waved. For a few seconds we just stared at eachother, than he dove underwater and kept on swimming.

I assumed he was going to run deadmines, but having done deadmines myself I know it's not a lvl 10 instance. Seeing him swimming through Stranglethorn was a thing in itself. We weren't far from a school of 30ish murlocs that would have rushed his lowbie butt like a freight train. Curiosity, perhaps?

my stupidest thing as a newbie came in moonglade

i hadnt worked out how to get out of the place so i was still using my hearthstone lol

but anyway i got told to do the lunaclaw quest and told to go to Darkshore so i was thinking 'how dya get there' and i thought you had to run through felwood! so i was running through that little entrance to felwood with the bear-human things and i ran as fast as my druids legs could take me and i got into felwood but died lol then i rezzed in the graveyard in felwood and was like 'right i still have to get to Darkshore so i kept on running andi saw a treant that was comin after me so i moonfired and then i saw a health bar go very far down...MY HEALTH BAR!! then i died and my hearthstone was still counting down so i just waited in the graveyard.

It gets stupider guys seriously!

i then hearthed back to darnassus and i tried to get to rut'theran village NOT via the portal, via running off the edge off teldrassil! so i ran off the edge and obviously died then when i came to be a wisp i cudnt even retrieve my corpse and i ended up in the ocean!! then i went hunting for rut'theran village THEN i found out about the portal to the village....SHEESH i felt stupid!!!

So the moral of this story is

-there is a free flight master in moonglade to darnassus and thunder bluff
-NEVER EVER try to run off the edge of teldrassil
- and never try to run to Darkshore via felwood as u will most likely die!

bourbon_creams, I also have a funny story about Moonglade. I was at least level 30 by this time so I should have known better, but I guess it just goes to show how much of a newbie I still was.

I was helping a druid guildie find the bear spirit in Moonglade over guild chat. I told him to use the teleport spell to get to Moonglade, then talk to the questiver. Well after the guildie talked to the quest giver he decided he was done in Moonglade and hearthed back to TB. Um...

So I told him he was supposed to follow the quest and talk to the bear spirit. Very embaressed guildie ported back to Moonglade, where I met him and helped him find the bear. Now here's the punch line: I didn't know there were any flight paths in Moonglade. Time to corpse run Felwood! /facepalm

In a related story, several levels later another friend of mine decided she wanted to see Moonglade. Remembering the long corpse run I had before, I told her we would have to strip down, put our clothes in the bank, and ride naked through the dangerous land of Felwood! (Friend was a hunter.)

We were level 50 at the time. The animals left us alone. Only time we ran into trouble was with a group of 70s gaurding the road near the tunnel, but otherwise we could have stayed in our clothes.

Aah, bad hunters. So funny. Although they give hunters a bad name, and make good hunters an almost nonexsistent name, they're funny. It'd be fun to make a NE hunter and be good at it, just to see how much people will hate you and call you a noob even if you're good at it...

I'll tell you about an experience I had as a newbie player almost 3 years ago.

I started in TB and ended up at Org.  There was a quest where I needed to go to UC to speak to someone.  This was just under level 20 I believe.  I thought, "How do I go to UC from this side of the world?"  At the time, I didn't know where the zeppelin was, and I didn't know that it was free, AND I didn't know that it linked Org with UC at the time.  However, I knew there was a boat at Ratchet that goes somewhere.  So I went to Ratchet and took a boat to Booty Bay.

My first thought at BB was, "Wow, this place looks cool!  Those red named characters are skulls to me.  I wonder why?"

As you know, they're higher level Alliance.

So now comes the newbie thing:  I corpsed hopped all the way to Duskwood, which I explored a bit and found an alliance town.  That made me turn the other way.  I eventually ended up at Westfall and wandered a bit until I saw a whole bunch of Murlocs at the beach.  I think it was Murlocs.

Anyway, being chased by some of the humanoid NPC's, I dived into the water and started swimming up the west coast of the Eastern Kingdoms, starting from the northern edge of Westfall.  At the time, I didn't know Thottbot existed, so I had to rely on the WoW map itself.

I thought that as creative as Blizzard can be, they would at least add some things along the way.  15 minutes into my swimathon, I realized I was truly alone with the sea, the impassable mountainous areas, and the occasional bird - or was that just my sea-sick hallucinations?

After a long while later, I reached what looked like ships in the distance.  I didn't know at the time, and thought it was a neutral town like Ratchet.  Lone behold, I was attacked on sight.  I escaped with my life, barely, and made my way north eastwards.  As I later found out, that was Menethil Harbour.

I died in the Wetlands, and found myself in the middle of the map.  I was very unsure where to go, but eventually made my way out towards the Hillsbrad Foothills.  By now, I have skipped Grom Gol, Hammerfall, and Tauren Mill.

Anyhow, eventually, I made it to UC, and on my way out of the city ruins, I saw the silhouette of a zep in the near distance.  That looked so cool and then proceeded to laugh my head off.  As I boarded the zep, I retold the story to a level 50+ Undead.  He said at the end of my story, "It happens to almost everyone.  Welcome to World of Warcraft."

^_^

ginsengsamurai, that is the funniest story I've ever heard. XD

That's similar to the way I got to the Badlands for the first time. I tried to ride there from Gorm'gol, heading north. I searched for a flight path through Duskwood but never found one, although I did meet some very unfriendly NPCs in the local Alliance town.

I crossed the Red Ridge mountans and found myself at the entrance to the Burning Steppies. At this point a mage and a warlock, level 14 and 20 respectively, attempted to gank me. After beating their faces into the dirt I servyed my surroundings. It looked like a corpse run from here on in. Taking a deep breath, I dashed through the swarm of lvl50 imps and ventured onto the burning land.

I wandered around the Burning Steppies for about an hour, eventually finding a flight path, but still no entrance to the Bad Lands. After several deaths I got fed up and hearthed back to GG, then attempted to swim to the Bad Lands. Fortunately, aquatic is one of my favorite druid forms. =)

So I swam and swam and swam. Somehow I passed right over the Badlands, because according to my map I was in the Wetlands. It was then that I realized I could have gone south from Hammerfall, into the Wetlands, and reached the Badlands from there. Oops! I swam to the bottom of the sea (actually made it all the way down before fatigue finished me off), rezed in the Wetlands and proceeded to the Badlands without another hitch.

Wanted to tell this story before it goes out of my head, because I know I'll forget it if I wait.

It was my first time in Ratchet, and I was probably lvl12. I was absoultely in love with the goblins and would click them over and over like a maniac to hear all their little phrases. I just wanted to pick them up and hug them! The fact that they would gnaw my arm off if I tried made them all the more adorable.

I headed over to the flight path and saw my first Alli, a nightelf hunter. He was ?? to me, but I didn't know what that meant. Since his name was in red I assumed he could probably kill me, but he was also AFK. I wanted to see what armor he was wearing, so I right clicked on his name. Bad idea.

The next thing I knew I had targeted him and bonked him over the head with my staff. Oh shit! I turned and ran. Now try to imagine this from the nightelf's perspective.

I thought I'd got away when all of a sudden a net landed on me. This was my first PvP experiance and I didn't realize I could shift out of it. After a single raptor strike to the face I was dead--lying on the ground, feeling embaressed.

oh ... dont get me started about moonglade >.<

i was a noob once too
druid as fist char .. having to go to moonglade
found a teleport spell. so here we go

did the quest bits and talked to all the npc's to see if i could find something funny to buy. so .. started to look for a flight path. and couldnt find it

i knew there had to be a way to get back somehow. teleporting didn't work ;) ..but no flight path anywhere in sight..

this puzzled me a while and since i felt i already talked to all the freaking npc's i thought it might be outside the town and walked all over the place to find a flight path

(by this point it should be obvious i just overlooked the druid flight path somehow and did not talk to allllll the npc's)

and near the furbolg cave i found one guy with some strange looking flying creatures. didnt hesitate a second and clicked it.  ..... only to find out it was the alliance taxi -didnt even notice the sword icon :D - and after a corpserun looked around some more..

nearby actually found another flight path with a guy i could talk to, but he mentioned i had no connecting nodes.

at this moment i was slightly stunned. maybe i had to walk halfway first instead of using the teleport - and thats why i didnt have a connecting path.

looked on the map .. noticed i was halfway accross the continent.. paniced a bit.. calmed down . took a deep breath and said to myself .. ohhkk .. thats a nice walk back. lets do it.

the furbolg cave looked like the connection between felwood and moonglade. so i said lets try go in .. and when i went inside after about 10 yards i saw a friendly looking teddybear.. it wanted to hug me i think.  oh yeh .. now i remember . i got oneshotted... after half a dozen corpseruns i died once more and was released at the spirit guy in felwood

i was really happy.. ressurected. and found out there were ten times as much ?? mobs around as in the cave.

by that time it was getting pretty late. decided to quit and try again the next day .. did some more corpserunning before going to work, and it was at work where i mentioned this to a collegue and asked him what to do

he replied with a smile and one word

hearthstone and started laughing

and after i turned red ashamed and hitted myself for being so silly i laughed along with him.

Well I started playing the WoW trial version 4 days ago, so I'm about as big a Newb as you can get. I chose a human rogue as my first char, and on the second evening I had started questing in Westfall (I think I was lvl 12/3) and decided I'd check out Moonbrook, thinking it was a village like Goldshire. Needless to say within seconds I was dead. So after running back to fetch my corpse I get an invite to join a group. After running around and getting pwned by the mages a couple of times the rest of the group logs and I'm left with this lvl 17 dwarf hunter, and we decide to run around killing stuff for a bit longer. As we go we're chatting, and I discover that he's a 45 year old guy who'd been playing the game for a month, the dwarf was his only character, oh and he lived 20 miles down the road from me.

Considering as of logging last night I'm only about 5k xp from lvl 17 somehow I think I'm doing pretty good.

In another instance I picked up the go to Loch Modan to deliver something quest, and on my way thru the dwarf part of Stormwind I see this tunnel and run in to investigate, when a loading screen poped up I was like, wtf? Of course I'd just found the entrace to the tram, not knowing where it went I left to pick up the quest and then decided to investigate the tram. I really hadn't been looking forward to running to the dwarf lands to deliver a package. While I was running around in the station a tram turns up, so for a laugh I get on, and you should have seen my face when I ended up in Ironforge. Thinking I was nearly done with the quest I run around and eventually find the city gates. I go outside and follow the sign posts, thinking the loch was in the same area. It took me maybe an hour to find the right pass to get to my quest objective.

(I must admit that I usually play Guild Wars, which has a quest arrow system that even a n00b can understand, it took me a lot of cursing to get used to reading the quest info to find out where I was supposed to go)

this was the situation when i was level 45ish i wasnt sure.

now, you must understand that im easily confused so thats the root of all my problems on WoW.

Well, i went to southsea cove pirate place in tanaris to do tht wanted quest and i got invited to join a group with a hunter and pallah. i got a quest to hand something in at the docks place so i thought it was actually at the southsea cove. so after we 'd finished i ran back to southsea cove and i thought id found the place where to hand in the quest so i ran in this building up the stairs and...died with 5 mobs on me.

wasnt too impressed but i told one of my friends...he laughed and took me to that docks place and i got quests to go back to southsea cove....i felt a bit of a nobneck as you can guess lol

any other higher level dimwittedness?

hehe, this happened the first day i played WoW.

i started as a NE hunter, as i had read that tread on www.wow-europe.com about classes, and choose to make a hunter...

so i start this hunter, and start questing in shadowglen, but the suddently a level 17 hunter with a little flying dragonthing from the barrens up and start typing /dance in there, suddently everyone is ove him, and i remember alot of nasty words being slung at him, by some stupid druid who couldnt make his char dance cause he didnt know he should type /dance, lol, that poor hunter really trys to explain to us how to make your char dance, and he keeps saying "type /dance," or "dance" because if he typed /dance he would start dancing... then suddently i realize that what he is typing is /dance!!! FOOL! i tell myself, and types /dance, and wow that was a magic moment when my little char starts dancing at the side of that level 17 hunter..! but then everyone starts booing us out because they apperantly thinks that we are some kind of cult, and that we both know how to do it, but just dont want to tell about it, and i think "WTF!" and starts running with that level 17 hunter, and we starts a nice chat, so we just ran to starbreeze village where we sat in a house with almost constant respawns (witch he killed) and talked for ages! that was some experience, anyway this guy talks to me, and tells me all the most important parts of the game, like how to do ANYTHING almost, learned me how to type in /1 and /2, emotes and all that kind of things!

another funny episode, that hunter became level 28 at the time lunar festival started, and i was obsessed with those dresses, but they costed some stupid coins! i went around all the newbie areas and took coins, and got about 2 dresses i think, but then i read that there was one at some place in a place called felwood... but a player sees me walk towards felwood, and types /laugh and tells me that i should strip all my clothes, and just RUN! so i did this, and suddently i start seeing all these level ?? on both my left and my right.
i keeps running, and eventually ends up at a cave and i think "ahh, finally some place witch can give me rest" and suddently i gets attacked! by a teddybear!
lol, i ran all the way down trough felwood again, with constant killings, just to realise at the time i went back to SW that i crossed the place to get the coin 2 times!!!

lol, these are my best/most funny stories with newbie me :)

some people try to curse in wow by saying **-** or something like that and this happens often, what people dont know is that you can turn of the mature filther by going to the interface>Advanced.

I was boosting my brother and some guildies in Gnomerang, I was 64 maybe and my brother started to play WOW in Christmas, can't remember which was his level but he was a newbie for sure, it was in the middle of January. The other m8s were far in SW or Loch Modan. Because of my higher level I couldn't summon, so I was trying to explain to him how did the meeting stone work. I was next to him, near the stone, telling him to click on their faces on the screen and then to click on the stone. In secs I saw him doing a sound and he disappeared back to SW. He used, as you already know, the hearthstone. LOL!!! I had to stay there at the door, hearing him cursing me for not explaining the right way to do it and i was really laughing out loud like I never did while playing the game, the other mates laugh around too in party chat while he was whispering me: Shut up you moron!!! Hope you enjoy!! Sorry my english!!!

Cheers!!!

Being a newb...I have my own stupid thing..well one anyway.

Having teleported to Moonglade, I completed my quest and, instead of taking the flight back or even hearthstoning...I decided to follow the trail back, ended up dying and rezing in Felwood...its a nice place to visit I suppose..but not at lvl 17.

Best part,  after my kid stopped laughing, he told me about thotbot.

Amazing the things you can learn here

I would say Very well is more appropriate from the details you have relayed - I hope you can also find time for other things outside of warcraft.
