Elites revert back to normal stats, but Rare (silver elite tag) often have special benefits that are retained.  in my opinion a fair reward for hunters who spend hours 'hunting' the rare spawns.  for instance, lupos (my current and many hunter's pet) does shadow dmg instead of melee dmg.
