Professions are a great question for 'Locks, I am glad someone brought this up.  My first choice is Tailoring and Mining.  Huh??? You say.  You will have two monetary times with a 'Lock that can be helped with my actions.  Starting Tailoring/Mining as early as possible will let you have the mats to make your own Robes of Arcana and Gold Bar for your Bloodrobe quest at lvl 31.
The second phase comes after you have the above mats.  Drop tailoring, and start skinning.  Both mining and skinning become invaluable to your dreadsteed quest at lvl 60.  Dark Iron Ore (25 pieces) and Black dragonscales do not come cheap, and the leather you gain is just cheap armor kits and quick income.
If you have a high lvl alt supplying your toon then of course this is all nil and void, but this is for a starting toon thought process.
As a side note, find out who your guild enchanter is and make a deal with them for any Blue items you turn into them to disenchant that you need SIX Large brilliant shards at lvl 60 for your quest.
After your quests are finished, Tailoring and Enchanting are the only true money making professions in the game(Until Lich King comes out with "Scribing").

k keep in mind 'worrock' is also the 1 who posted in the warlock talent tree guide to make use os firestones and swords to make a good melee warlock....    if u want money yes go with skinning and mining.... but if u want sum cool stuff and explosives.. go with engineering and mining it can sumtimes be a bit costly but its worth it in my opinion it is worth it 100%

tailoring.  I chose tailoring / enchanting, which isnt a big money maker until fiery enchant / netherweave bags, but you can DE any drops or greens you create as a tailor.

Frozen Shadoweave set is the reason to be a tailor.  You will not replace all 3 items for a long, long time once you hit 70.

Also, you can make yourself soul bags.  28 slot soul bag?  great.  Once your lvl 61 you can begin making yourself netherweave vestments, better than any drops ive seen yet for early-mid lvl 60.

tailoring FTW, maybe you can add skinning to make money and leather is needed for some tailoring items.

hmm, i swear i posted a response...

oh well, definately tailoring.  you can make your own epics for yourself, frozen shadoweave set is amazing for a virgin 70, and will last you a long time.

edit:  silly post delays

I found that being a jewelcrafter and mining very successful, it allows u to have trinkets for the lower lvls, (lived on the mana replacing owl and the rabbit, for running from a bad situation) around the 30's and from the outset u can equip the best rings and necklaces for the buffs they give. Helps with making him just a bit better than the norm. Later lvls, 60+ i found that the money rolled in thru these two proffs and if u want the sockets for above lvl 60, they r right there, ready to go, but being my first toon in the game, i will easily stand corrected.
Also helps when my bluey protects me while im mining, drop the odd dot between taking the ore samples and reduces the chance  for those ninja miners to take ur node away.

Every warlock should have Tailoring. Then you should pick between 1 of 3 things for the other primary profession. Mining, Skinning, or Enchanting. All three can make you great money.

As for the person's comment about Enchanting not making good money until Fiery Weapon, wrong. You power level your Tailoring up, DE the stuff you make for mats, power level enchanting up to the next DE stage or two, DE items made from tailoring for mats and sell full stacks in AH for gold. Not that hard.

My lock is tailoring and enchanting. Tailoring isn't great before the higher levels, but at least you can DE the crappy greens and get a lot of enchanting mats to enchant yourself or to sell on the AH. Tailoring has really great gear for level 70 so it is worth it to take.

Alchemy could be ok, although you won't need mana or health potions very often as a lock because you have drain life, drain mana, and spirit tap.

Jewelcrafting is actually the only other profession that, to me, seems like a good choice for a lock.

I went with engineering and mining. Harvest reapers ftw, make a stack of those, and you effectively have two pets.

Yes, just choose the one you don't want.  Open your skills window, click the profession you want to quit.  The red slash circle will now be there to "unlearn your profession".

Unlearned..Have fun tailoring

For the love of god unless you have a higher lvl supporting toon to deal out money dont pick enchanting for sure. Wait till your high lvl for enchanting. I chose enchanting for my first toon an undead lock, because you always disenchant your drops you dont sell them. I relized how much of your income when your lower lvl comes from just selling drops. In short i was a very very poor lock while lvling till i stoped trying to raise my enchanting skill. Choose tailoring and some other money makeing skill like mining.

i guess im the only lock thats herb // alch making flasks is cool! potions ect ect this was my first prof and only but that guy that said skinning is helpful at level 60 omg he is very right on took me for ever to get that crap for my epic
also
Engineering gives you one of the best head slot gear in the game at level 70
Tailoring gives you one of the best belts shoes and robes in the game.
I have considered giving up herbs once i stock pile them but decided against it, mixing potions and flasks is fun gathering herbs is meditation. lol and herbs make really good money!
fel lotus x 1= 15 to 30 G Ah buy out
black lotus x 1= 6 G to 15 G or more
mountain silver sage 30 G for a stack of 20
and terocone omg 40- 60 G stack of 20
the herbs make a great profit

Oh i did however forget that you can make the best trinket in the game by having alchemy its the sorcerers stone thingy it give you + 63 spell damage and a 40% increase on your healing and mana potions (BadAss) get yourself some mad alchemist potions and while you are getting slapped around in a bg pop one of those bad boys and boom heal yourself for 4K health very very nice trinket.
gives you a reason to keep alchemy on your lock anyways

If it's a new char on a new server, start with skinning and herbalism for vendoring or auctioning.  Buy the cheap 6 slot bags as soon as you can afford them, and pick every flower and strip every corpse.

Tailoring means you don't sell your cloth or turn it into bandages == low cash flow plus low first aid

If you want to tailor later, fine.  Just don't start with it on a fresh character.
