Well, how hard is a heroic anyway? Could you do it in blues? Greens? Do you need epics to do it?

well, heroics are aimed towards level 70 players, with a focus on people who are better geared than average (at least some heroics)

i wouldn't recommend running heroics in greens, as that will more than likely prove fatal..depending on your role in the instance, blues and epics would be the way to go

I started tanking Heroics right when I dinged 70, Mainly in Blues and greens... maybe a epic or two. The thing about heroics is the guys hit really hard. In the gear I had back then I was getting for around 7k by some bosses, and it was brutal with only ~11k hp. So the tank's and healer's gear should be pretty good. I would reccomned, if you're a healer, go pvp for some gear, the S1 stuff is a pretty good start and isn't to hard to get.  If you're a tank, its a different story, you could get s1 and gem/enchant it out with tanking stuff, but its not great. You would need to get craft as much as you can and put the best gems you can ( 12stam/8defense imo)
And if your dps, get ur pvp stuff too, it works alright in there.

i know that there are outland heroics, but are there regular heroics like DM heroic? If so how do you get to it?

You mean, only Burning Crusade Instances, and even then, specifically the five-man instances.  The Keepers of Time instances in Tanaris have heroic difficult, as well as, I expect, the new five man in 2.4 in Sunwell probably will as well.


As for heroics, they're geared for 70s and were originally intended as a step up to help gear you in preparation for Karazhan and/or Gruul/Mags; the gear that drops reflects this, as does the difficulty, generally, anyway.

It is entirely possible to do a heroic without epics, or with lots of blues and greens.  I started running them when my only epics were the crafted PMC set, and everything else was blue/green; they were pretty hard then.  Of course, in T4, they're easy, and in T5 they're a joke...

In terms of progression, if you've ran most of the instances on normal without much issue, and completed most of the important questlines, you should have plenty of gear to pull it off

The odd thing about heroics is that it isn't usually the boss fights that are THAT much harder (usually just a bit longer and requiring a slightly different strategy).  It's the trash, lol.  The first time you get hit for 9k from one of a pair of sentries just inside the instance (which are immune to cc, so have to be tanked) it is a shocking gear check, especially for tanks.

I started healing heroics right after dinging 70 on both my resto druid and priest - graced by having well geared guildies to run with.  But neither of my healers was particularly undergeared and both were highly enchanted/glyphed/inscribed.  Heroics benefit the newly 70 the most, as that is when you need gear/badges.

LOL, yeah, the first two guards in Ramps one-shotted our rogue the first time I was in there when he went to sap one.  It is funny in retrospect. 

This is why tanks need to be somewhat well geared for them.  Obviously they do not hit for 9k on +490 def plate. :) Which is good since your tank is gonna have to tank them both.  Easy as cake when you are well-geared, almost impossible if you are not.  (Heh, or like the very first time I ever did a heroic, I was with a tank that was newly 70 and a bit squishy, so we simply did everything we could to take down one of them before we wiped and tried again.  I'm sure many people have had this experience.  It is hilarious later to remember how hard they seemed - though all instances are like that, I suppose.  Heroic Slabs, for example, was impossible the first time I tried it, but once you are in T5 equivalents you can four-man it.  Again, it is the trash, not the bosses that are the challenge....)

Heroic Black Morass is another great example.  The three boss fights aren't much harder than in regular (Aeonus, the last boss, hits like a girl even in heroic - I can toss the tank a HoT and dps) - but there are like twice as many adds spawned from the voids and they seem to have a few more hit points.  So clearing all of one void before the next opens up becomes more of a challenge (and there is little time to mana-up as a result) - as does protecting your healer, who will be under attack more.  Unlike most instances where so long as your tank and healer are well geared you can take a bit longer to take down the trash, BM is all about dps. ^^

LOL, we one shot heroic BM everytime it is the daily. And Heroic OHB was the first heroic my holy priest ever did (well before she had any Kara gear).  You have to keep heals on Thrall too. 

Shattered Halls can make or break you.  Wanna put it on easy mode?  Take two tanks and two healers and the best dpser you can find.  Don't worry about cc.  Tank and spank it all.  The only one that isn't expendable in the group is the dpser, lol.

It's worth 5 badges if you get the execution quest inside, 7 if it is the daily.

So just because something is easy for one person doesn't make it easy for everyone.  Group make up, skill, and gear makes a huge difference. 

Well with heroics first of all you have to be keyed. Mobs and bosses have far more hp and Dps output, with that said cc is required on most heroics. While you can join a heroic with blues and greens, you will more than likely be sub'd or the heroic will be a long miserable failure. Heroics drop badges for Phat loots, recommend you run a couple kara's or do pvp or bg's for atleast some epics.
