I have been playing a warlock for some time now and I thought i would share my knowledge to any warlocks out there.

Fear and seduce share diminishing returns in pvp (for example if you seduce some1 then fear them the seduce will last 9 secs but the fear will only last 4) the next time you seduce or fear them it will last 1 sec (almost worthless) Then they are immume to fear and seduce for 15 secs.

If you die from the damage you take from casting hellfire you DO NOT lose armor. Yes a free death, useful for all kinds of points in time such as: getting past a locked door not in a instance, when you just know you are gonna wipe, or looking emo after you lose in a duel.

Druids in tree of life form can be banished.

Healthstones are not for making in combat and useing! Plz make them before combat.

Fear and Howl of Terror are 2 different fears meaning you can have them both on people at the same time.

Imp = Pet of choice for raids.

Drain mana and Curse of Recklessness are near worthless.

Take spell lock off of auto cast for your fel pup and use it when they start to cast a healing/damage spell.

Do not cast searing pain unless you wish to be attacked for any reason in PvE.

Curse of Idiocy no longer exists.

Firestone are near worthless at 70.

Never use your VW/Fel guard as a groups tank.

More comeing soon(swore i had more) feel free to pst your Qs about warlocks here.

This was very useful, even though some are obvious. I especially like the hellfire part, self destruct after a duel is awesome.

Thanks

Rain of Fire > Hellfire for both PvP and PvE.

Afflicition isn't just great for leveling up as. It's great at pvp as well. Imp isn't always the minion of choice in raids. However, since you weren't specfic on what kind of raid I will assume a pvp raid. Then Imp is the best choice if you have Dark Pact. Other wise, use your Fel Hunter.

I've used Death Coil on a BM hunter. It works sometimes. But when you're fighting a BM hunter your best options are to use Curse of Exhaustion on the pet and hunter so you can retreat.

Destruction locks are more for PvP oriented activity than PvE. PvE raids, they aren't as useful since they can't spread damage out to multiple targets like Demonology and Affliction. All they do is bolt nuke people to death with the occuational Shadowfury blast.

You weren't very detailed with the information you gave. Even if some of it is obvious, you weren't detailed. A lot of it is situational encounters in PvP and PvE. Like fear or seduce breaking before it's suppose to, etc.

I strongly believe Affliction locks are the best spec. Your DOTs do the most damage, you aren't relying on a minion, and half the Destruction talents are worthless because relying on crits just makes you weaker.

who says it depends on crits the crits are a bonus part to tree along with criting more and some bonus attacks.

VW for PVE cause nice tanking skils, and a lot of HP and def
And felhunter for PVP

Drain mana and Curse of Recklessness are near worthless.
Lolwut? Drain mana = No healer mana
CoR + some random curse = Fear kiting in instances

Also if your feared target is going too far, use it. On rank 1 of course.

More tips: Keybind EVERYTHING. And do it early so you get used to it. Also, mouse turn.

Specs
Affliction = Farming and DPS
Demo = DPS and PvP
Destro = DPS (0/21/40 with good gear)
SL/SL or SL/Ruin = Farming and PvP and maybe DPS (only SL/Ruin though)

Against Mages, DO NOT FEAR unless the Mage is unable to cast Counterspell (due to silence, cooldown, school lockout, CC, whatever). Also you Curse of Tongues them, and break the Shatter combo (when he Novas you) with Devour Magic/Spellstone/Trinket/your healer. Banish the Elemental.

If you are fighting a Rogue....well you're screwed if he's shadowstep. No way in hell will you get away. If not kite him with CoEx, and try to trinket his KS/Blind, which also happens to remove his crippling poisons.

Against a Warrior, don't fear him if he has a) Recklessness (this is unlikely as it is a 30 min CD), Berserker Rage, or Deathwish. The search function on Thottbot will tell you what the symbols look like.

Against a Hunter, try to LoS him with pillars/obstacles/terrain/whatever. Mostly you're screwed anyway.

Final tip to PvPing (which applies to any class): You need to understand your enemy. See their talents/abilities on Thottbot, actually play one (an alt, PTR, Tournament realm) to know what they'll do, and when.

Ok the end.

this thread is full of misinformation!

affliction is an excellent raid spec but loses to destruction once the gear improves.
to beat affliction you ought to have:
202 +spell hit
>1000 damage
>25% crit

to call drain mana and CoR useless is just wrong. they're not going to be spells you use everyday but there are times when they are very useful. aside from the fear kiting use for CoR if you have a melee heavy raid it can improve raid DPS significantly.

imp is raid pet of choice? tell that to felguard raiders ^^
imp is the affliction PVE pet

rain of fire > hellfire?!
if you can be healed through it hellfire does massive damage. it used to be the most powerful AOE in the game. now we have seed of corruption which beats everything. if you can aoe, use it.

DO NOT use a felhunter in pvp!!! I made that mistake and got creamed!!! Use ur VW the sacrifice is great for you to have a shield for 30sec. to get the hell out of there. A felhunter is only good if you are going after casters.... I know from experience.

Wat?
Use VW?
Only against melee, where the Felhunter is useless. But have you seen a BG with only melee? So only for Arena.

Also in reply to FG > Imp, I think he means for Affliction.
Demo -> FG
Destro -> Lol I killed my pet.
PvP -> Felhound/VW

do NOT use felhunter in pvp?!?
that is dreadful advice and should be ignored.
felhunter should be your default pet unless you're getting into a situation where a different pet is required - ie. if you see a rogue approaching you and going into stealth... even then the paranoia buff might help you more than the shield. it can really throw a rogue off their game if you get CoEx and a couple of DoTs on them before they've come out of stealth.

Master of Deception > Paranoia

But really against a Rogue/Warrior/Hunter in Arena the Felhunter is useless (in S3) because they'll just insta-zerg it to death.

You still need it to silence their healers, though, don't forget.

EDIT: Actually it's because melee scales like crazy and so your pet will simply die from cleave/blade flurry/whirlwind damage. Hence the infamous 'cleave team'. Voidwalker has 9k armor and 6k hp and so is harder to kill.

I guess if you were in a duel and you had a VW, just to sac and feldom a Felhunter, it would conceivably work, but dispell > bubble.

Hey guys, I made an alt 'lock because I really liked being a Shadow Priest and I was just checking out this thread to get some tips on how to play with one.

First of all, thank you shopebay for posting this thread.  I have found some good information on here.

Second of all, everyone else needs to STFU with telling everyone else is wrong and arguing about who knows better.  Simple fact is that everyone has a different playing style and a different method of doing things.

So anyways, keep posting any tips you may have because it really is helpful!

actually i take offence at that comment. playstyle is one thing but some of the "tips" in this thread are actually fallacies. this is a thread for informing new warlocks of things that they may not have picked up and, as such, is a very bad place for bad advice to be.

i could give a long list of reasons why a felhunter is the best all round pet for pvp, and yet, someone in this thread said that it's a bad pet for pvp. should people who understand the game better not debunk bad advice for the benefit of all the thread's readers?
