Is engineering good for shamans?

Actually, I think so. I have used engineering with my shaman since day one, and I think it's one of the best choices. Most gear you could craft w/another profession will likely be replaced end game anyhow.
It costs a lot, but engineering is almost a class in and of itself - one of the most fun things in the game imo.
The main reason I say it's a good choice for a shaman is the ability to make and use the bombs. It's the stun spell shamans don't have. And it's pretty fun to use the MC cap so you can watch two mobs tear each other up before you step in and kill both. Also, I think it's a tad underused, but the engineering pets are great. Battle chicken screws up casters and even gives a buff and (mithril, mechanical, etc.) dragonling actually do some damage - their lvl is eng lvl divided by 5. The CD bites, but it'll win that occasional world PvP when you get ganked.
So, to sum up: Eng is great fun either way (and isn't that what it's about anyhow), and it does fill a few voids that shamans have. Hope that helps!

I use 'The Big One' as a heal. Make a macro to drop the bomb and then cast healing wave. It should stun anything attacking you long enough to get that heal off. Not a pally bubble, but at least its 2k more HP for ya.

I have to agree with those above.  I have been engineering since WoW came out and I have NEVER thought about switching... until now.  I used to LOVE to bust out my dragonlings, battle chickens and what not in bg's and get a huge laugh, as casters tried in vain to get a spell off,  Since BC came out, the only engineering things I regularly use are the helmet, mount, and mote extracter, (unless I am forgetting something which is very possible).  Once in a blue moon I will poultryize somone for kicks, but that's about it.

I am really rather chagrinned that blizz didn't give gnomish engineers any cool pets.  Plus, all of the reputation vendors have tons of recipes for enchanting, lw, alchy's, bs's and tailors, but all we get is stupid smoke flares, wtf? Dimensional rippers are no biggie since we have 15 minute recall. And did someone mention to blizzard that shammies use mail not leather, and can't use bows, rifles or their ammunition?

<takes deep breath>

Anyways, it doesn't really bother me a whole lot, but engineering isn't as fun as it used to be back in the day.  It is probably of more use to lower levels, especially in pvp.  It actually was VERY fun for levelling and pvping, so I would say, keep it until you level up, and then decide if it is worth spending the time and gold to drop it and pick up a new profession.

Yes, i have engineering to.
I think its a great choice if you have the mats to support/level it , those goggles (such as Surestrike Goggles V2.0) have a level 62 req to wear and they are better than t4 headgear if gemmed / enchanted correctly. My goggles currently have 158 attack power, 34 stamina and 16 hit rating, with the other stuff too.
