When I first started a lock, I really had no idea what I was doing. In fact, it was my first character ever in WoW so that made things even more difficult. I just thought I'd spend a moment explaining what my 70 turned into, and I how I made demonology work for me.
We are probably the smallest group of warlocks out there. Most of our brothers and sisters choose an affliction or destruction base, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's just not me. These are a few facts/pointers that I hope maybe someone out there can use:
-We are not the heavy hitters like the affliction and destruction specs, but our survivability with the aid of our talent tree and felguard makes us more defensive in combat.
-Your felguard can break a rogues stun lock cycle, and give you a window of opportunity to react.
-Your best bet is using your dots, specifically affliction trees corruption and curse of agony. Spell dmg and spell crit will not help you as well as it would a destruction lock, dot dmg works a bit differently. Stamina and intelligence should always be your first choice.
-When you are in an instance, turn off cleave (felguard ability). You will pull a bunch of aggro and make a lot of unneeded problems.
-With your firestone you can melee with your pet. Make sure you have a good staff, and that your felguard initiates battle. I meleed with my pet up to around level 60. DON'T TRY THIS IN PVP!! Players are smarter then that =)
-Health funnel your pet, if he dies, you will surely follow quickly.
+++Can't think of anything else atm so I'll move on to PvP for a bit+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Rizwith is happiest in pvp, I can't get enough of it. Here are some (not all) of the helpful tactics that have worked for me against specific classes.
Warlocks-Nothing I hate worse then fighting my own kind. I absolutely love warlocks. Send you pet, silence mixed with your dots, and drain mana.
Warriors-Send pet, fear, dot, and keep away.
Druids-Send pet, fear, curse of exhuastion (they will most likely run from you.. they hate locks), dot. If the druid is using bear form treat the druid like a warrior.
Shaman-send pet, silence, curse of shadows, drain mana.
Paladin-send pet, drain mana, silence when they start to bubble, repeat, if they get in melee range fear.
Rogue-Send pet(even if you just got backstabbed!) Felguards stun will give you a window to react and fear. After that it's a dot, fear, keep away game.
Hunter-Many will say kill pet first. I send my felguard at the pet and charge the hunter. The hunters pets won't keep up with you felguard, and the hunter won't be able to do much when you break the distance. dot fear, dot fear, till dead.
Mage-send felguard, silence dot fear, don't worry if you have them in your sites first it's almost impossible for them to recover. Just hopefully your not the one being ambushed.
Priest-send pet, drain mana, silence before they can aura or heal.

Well, I know it's not much, but I hope this helps someone.
