ok i leveld to 50 and spent ALL of my talent points in demo for one reason. the felgaurd. needless to say i was shocked and dissapointed to find that a lv 48 hunters pet had better stats than my felgaurd... and they don't need ANY talents to get their pet!!! wtf is up with that?
should i just switch specs? because it seems like a huge waste of talent points when i could have dark pact and unstable affliction or conflagrate, shadowburn, and shadowfury.
anyone have any input?
Did you go to the grimoire seller? He sells FG tomes.
Also, you need to be 60 to get all the FG skills. 52 is Cleave, 56 Intercept, 60 Avoidance (not too sure about exact levels)
The Felguard is actually quite decent, and (most importantly) can help you solo elites for quests. Even 3-man quests.
yeah, he just kinda dies against elites. not high enough hp or armor. i can solo elites 1 or 2 levels higher than me with just me and my imp with affliction or destruction. just thought it was kinda lame that hunters get better pets without wasting all of their talent points. (yeah, survival hunter 1 level lower had a much better pet than my felgaurd)
Eh....you must be adding your talents wrongly then.
My felguard can tank 3-man bosses with me healing him.
You need 1) Improved Health funnel, 2) Demonic Tactics, 3) Mana feed 2/3 or 3/3, and 4) All the non-specific-demon improving talents at the top of the tree.
And Master Demonologist, AND use Soul Link.
You actually need to heal him, you know.
By solo I mean with me healing him...
hunters pet heals mutch better :(
warlocks need to get a pet HoT(heal over time)are channel heal means i cant cast spells :.{ and cost me heals!
Well, at lvl 61, My Felgaurd can trounce BM hunter pets quite solidly. I put him against a raptor, a cat, and a wolf, and he won each battle with more than 30% of his health leftover.
Also, you shouldn't have leveled as demonology, you should have gone affliction until 56, and then respec to felgaurd, and he just PWNs outlands. His real talent (hidden) is his flurry-like ability, which increases his attack power by 5% for each succesful melee attack, stacking up to 10 times. (which means his attacks keep getting better and better, until he finally gets a 50% dmg increase and keeps it)....
I recommend speccing FG/Destro. It's what I am, and for PVE it's amazing. average 300-400 dps on normal stuff, and 400-500 dps on raids (including pet). My pet maintains a 144 dps on an elite he's not tanking. He can also run lower leveled instances. I remember putting him on aggro, and setting him loose in RFK. Utter demolition. It's just a matter of playstyle.
He's awesome. Keep him. He's amazing for farming, and also very good for PvP (PvP spec is 20/41/0, PvE spec is 0/41/20, ftr.)
And this is all IMHO (I haven't hit 70 yet).

Affliction is better for farming than Demo. Not that you would want to know that...
isay SL/SL... to give u a story, my lock was in WSG everyone was at base except me i was going to atack when 6 vengeful alliance popped out, i only had full gladitor... they included 2 hunters 2 locks 1 healer priest and an MS warrior, i totally blew all their faces off without being killed.
there was a feral druid flag carrier so i just dotted him and he died while he ran back =)
so SL/SL = total survivability= take on more than one pvp guy.
i guess locks are the best survival class and get to take on the most ppl.. do they?

as a demon spect u need to use ur minion like a good BM uses his pet. than mneans ur deamage comes from ur pet and not u. you are there to supplement ur peta damage(and keep him healed)
send pet WAIT TILL HE HITS and cast ur dots on him People for get that we are cloth and not ment to get hit. We do major damage in group raids cast dots on everything and use Felguard to save u frrom what eve attacks you so if some thing caomes for u send felguard on it(for trash mobs) soloing and bosses are differnt send and dot the hell out of them if tankins doing his job then u send a soul fire and shadow but keep dots up to time

Spoken like a tru 'Lock that gave me a good laugh. I'm a 58 Demon Spec'd and its what I would do.
umm we spend the time they were fighting our pet laughing at how bad they are and dot the crap out of them, fear them, and continue to laugh.
Not sure if the OP even cares now, but here was my strategy using my FG before I respecced at 70:
I was able to solo most 3 person quests this way:
1. Send in FG allowing him to build aggro
2. DOT up the elite using CoD, Immolate, and Corruption
3. Health Funnel
4. Soul Shatter
5. Health Funnel
6. DOT
7. Health Funnel
8. Drain Life
9. Health Funnel
10. Life Tap
11. Repeat until almost dead then Drain Soul to gain back my soul shard from the Soul Shatter.
I also have a hunter and I will say that with the proper tools, the pet can be better than the FG, but it depends on how you look at it. The hunters pet, with training in the correct areas, has more tools and better armor to withstand a pummeling. Plus hunters have a HoT for their pets so I send in my pet and hit heal pet as soon as he starts to get attacked. This leaves me to be able to unload a barrage of arrows while my pet is doing his dps. Now, the FG has a higher dps but you are giving away a little yourself because you have to focus on his healing.
Just like everything else in WoW, it all comes down to play style, abilities, strategy, and the correct use of the given talents each class has.
