Aha! I have the answer to the cockroach & ant problem
The fallacy in your analogy, is that ants don't eat cockroaches, or vice-versa. All that the analogy is saying, is that the ants who survived, are better than the other ants, BUT it ISN'T saying that ants are better than cockroaches (or the other way 'round)
To put it in WoW terms, 2200+ rated mages are better than sub-2200 mages. Which is obviously true.
TO go further, it means that the ants that survived are better than the other ants, by a larger margin than the cockroaches which survived, as compared to the cockroaches which didn't.
At least, that's what I figured out before going to bed. But then I may be wrong. After all, I'm only 15....
