ok so im a huge fan of professions, my professions are always maxed out(i say always because ive done every non-gather profession except Bs and eng). im a lv 64 with 3400g and what used to be 2700g worth of uncut gems in my bank. now the prices of gems have gone down low on my server. i used to be able to buy 30 stacks a day and sell all the gems in 1-3 days. now it takes a week and im getting less cash. im wondering if i should just get rid of it for a new profession. i want a fun and useful profession(im a warlock). I need your advice.
Ps:ive made over 10000g with jc(i think) ive been able to give my one friend 3000g and my other friend 2000g,the other 1600g went to buy the stacks of ore that turned into the gems in my bank. can any other profession make that much money?
Probably the closest would be Enchanting.

i am a level 297 JC, and level 334 miner. mining has been easy, JC has sucked. you must be on a great server, because i am certain i haven't made 200 gold total so far. Not only that, but many recipes require rare drops from mobs, that cost a bundle (on those rare occasions when someone finally puts one on the AH). so, i have spent about 800 gold getting my JC level up to 297, and have received about 200 gold in return.
for example, check out how much azerothian diamonds, powerful mojo, or huge emeralds cost. when i prospect ore, it doesn't give me enough huge emeralds or azerothian diamonds, so if i am going to move up a level i have no choice but to buy them. azerothian diamonds go for 20 gold each on my server, and huge emeralds go for 8 gold. powerful mojo drops from one mob in Eastern Plaguelands, and the drop rate is less than 1%. any guesses what they go for on the AH? The Living Emerald Pendant requires 2 huge emeralds and 4 powerful mojos. You do the math.
Well, just wait til you can make the blue quality gems and and other designs. You will make up that money pretty fast. I did. I thought the exact same thing but it all came together. And I happily have plenty gold in the bank now. Like anything else, just takes time.
If you can't get the mats yourself you are making the wrong things. The best money makers I used below lvl 300 were the Golden Ring of Power and the Ruby Crown of Restoration.
They pretty much got me to my mount and epic mount.
Look at what sells. Truesilver Commanders Ring isn't a bad sell either.
I have the Emerald Crown of Destruction design, but I didn't bother with arcanite bars (?).
I bought 3 blue patterns and am waiting for 2 to pay back and I get my flying mount (lvl 69 now) before buying more designs.
My JC is 366
I make over 2000 gold per week cutting gems on Burning Blade server. I set up deals with miners I see selling alot of ore in the AH to buy about 2g under market but I buy all they have. Daily I do atleast 60 stacks of adamantite ore. The big key to making gold is recipes. Get all the good ones in each gem and use auctioneer to check the prices on the cut stones. Set a price for what you are willing to sell at then cut 3-4 of each recipe that the lowest price is above that set price. The best days to sell are Tuesdays and weekends. Tuesday set up your PvP gems like steady talasite while hit gems sell better on the weekends. Anytime something like new badge gear and arena season gear comes out the market will skyrocket. You can make rings out of your junk gems depending on price of fel iron and make gold. Adamantite powder depending on market can be made into eternium necklaces to De into large prismatic shards for profit as well.
