What is best race for mage. for horde and alliance

For alliance, it honestly doesn't matter.  Gnomes are probably the best, because you get a little INT boost, but besides that the races are basically the same.  I made the mistake of choosing a gnome because I thought he would be better, now I'm just stuck with a little man.  Pick whatever race looks the best to you.

Personally, I vote undead mage for the horde. ^^


I think gnomes for the alliance. They have an intellect boost.

I have always rolled warlocks, but decided to try a mage.  Nothing but Horde.  I chose the UD mage for mount reasons.  The skelly horse is almost a cool a the felsteed for warlocks.  The overlooked race for mages is Blood elves, as much mana as you burn as a mage, I should have rolled a Blood Elf for the mana tap/mana torrent abilities.  But, I wanted the cool mount.

the best race for alliance mage is actually gnome as they naturally will have more mana then any mage as they have +5 intellect i happen o be a gnome mage and i find they are very reliable in mana matters :)

Undead.

Alliance = I like gnome for intellect boost or Dreanei for the self healing ability.

Plus it seems to me that nobody expects a dreanei to be a mage.
If you play as a male character it is funny to see this huge dreanei running up to attack and then they stop half way and start bolting the crap out of their target.

The high spirit for the Undead means less downtime between kills, add that with cannabilize and your health will quickly recover.

The Gnomes are a great class for the mage as they've got the highest intellect out of all races

But really if you like a race then you should go with that instead of there cool abilities or high stats.

for horde mage idk i have not rolled a horde mage yet but as far as alliance dont matter really unless you are not going arcane/something or pure arcane i have a draenei not that great but she is a arcane/fire mix so i get the extra 5% int and almsot all my gear ws focused on int for my mana when i respeced and went to that when i buffed up with AI i had over 10k mana at lv 68 then i replaced some with stam and spirit and i was still at 9k. but if you are going to go with fire id have to say...human casue your pyroblast and a few other good fire spells dont cost as much as other kind of spells just learn when to use a ton of mana at once and when to save some. then if you are going frost id roll a gnome all the way. you use so dam mana as a frost mage its unbeliveable.

So true about that draenei mage comment. I have always thought it was funny that my huge draenei mage, with popping veins and everything, hits crap with his staff and usually freezes his enemy and backs up to shoot him with another spell. I do like the healing, though, it has come in handy many times, when I don't really feel like wasting a potion. Gift of the Naaru + Evocation = ready for another battle.

personally i'm a fan of blood elf mages the enchant skill boost and the insane mana brings death plus i think they wear the armor the best

Gnomes are the best alliance mage race, simply because of Escape Artist

Well, a mage wouldn't need escape artist much with blink but for some cases it would be usefull. I rolled human for rep boost, (I'm very lazy) and being one foot tall doesn't look good to me.

Blood elves all teh way, with mana and int not far from the gnome and mana tap making up for the difference, they are for sure the best. Plus, who wants to be 3 ft tall casting spells as big as your head?

4 the allaince i would hav to go 4 gnomes and 4 the horde the undead, but mostly the gnomes becuase the look like the mage type.

I would roll a gnome, not only because they are the best because of racials, but a 2 foot tall guy in full epics hurling pyroblasts and calling down blizzards...that is hilarious

i normally go for who looks the best and who has a good ability.

Humans for alliance as they look good in amour and also there ability to see stealth as it is very good in duels when a lower level and other cases.also gnomes dont need escape artist as we are casters,not warriors! plus humans look so craty when doing any pro!!!

blood elf is the best horde race as they are wicked dancers,and look sooooo cool in epic gear,also for there mana regaining ability.

even though they are small and they get abused doesnt mean they suck there probably the best mages

my favourite race they look cool they are frickin elves and they have good racial abilities


over all i would go blood elf but i am gettin sick of blood elves cuz i have made so many and i hate all other races of horde (no offence) so im makin a gnome mage

I think that you should go with Draneai cause they have a resistance to shadow magic and they look good in mage clothes.

PvP: Undead, Will of the Forsaken is immensely useful, cannibalize can be used in place of mana shield so you can take the hit and regen it rather then nullify it with shield saving mana for spells

PvE: Troll, they have 2 talents that modify damage, berserk and beast slaying, and in a raid all you ever want is more damage. Berserk has become even more favorable since 2.3.0 and the introduction of icey veins in skills. The racial stacks with it, it also stacks with blood lust, and it stacks with drums, when timed right and in conjunction with other mage talents and also use items I think a mage can become rather devastating.

I just going to tell you all one thing. If you are horde and want to be mage i RECOMEND that you do an male troll mage. you will love it

It's simple.  The best alliance race for a mage is a gnome hands down.  Solely because of the 5% intellect.  Let's say you have 500 intellect, not TOO terribly difficult to obtain.  With 5% intellect that's an extra 25 intellect.  That equals .3125% chance to crit and 375 mana.  If you are arcane, with Arcane Mind, which gives 15% intellect, that's an extra 4 intellect, brining the total up to 29 bonus intellect which is .3625% crit, and 435 mana.  Throw in Mind Mastery which gives 25% of intellect to spell damage, that's about 7.25 bonus spell damage. 

Wow, now imagine somebody coming up to you and saying, here, have a free extra equipment piece that gives 25 or 29 intellect, are you gonna take it?

Ok well I'm a Gnome mage and i really like it. They get an extra intellect boost which is good for magi. Also if you're more of a horde person do BE. Mana tap really helps you can silence them and get mana for it too. For pvp reasons (say if you're gonna twink him) then I'd have to say humans. They have an extra stealth detection boost which can help kill those OP rogue twinks (as if rogues aren't strong enough) Hope this helps =)

for pvp? Its clearly human for alliance , and undead for the horde . You see, mages really have two problem classes ; rogues and warlocks . undeads got more chance vs warlock, and human vs rogues . Undead because of will of the forsaken, and human because of perception . For pve its gnome for alliance because of more mana, and belf for horde

For Horde, I say trolls make the best mages. Faster casting speed, extra damage to beasts... for a DPS, it works very well.

would you say Blood elve because they have mana tap as racial power
