Do
- Ask yourself if there is a chance someone made a similar topic, Notice there are numbers near the bottom of the screen. Please check them out

- Please check this page for a similar topic, page 2 and 3 are also very recent, look for a similar topic and reply in that instead of making a new one.

- Please check the topic ** FREE Levelling & Useful WoW Resources **, to see if you can find the answer by following a link from there.

- Search first, search on Thottbot if you have a question about a quest or a mob. you can also search on wowwiki which is more a general encyclopedia of warcraft.

- Use the right section of the forum, this section is the general section. other sections are available as well. if you have a specific question about a fire mage, use the mage section. if you have a specific suggestion for thottbot use the thottbot suggestion section.

-Check your spelling and layout, nobody asks you to write perfectly, we are not your english teacher. But avoid l33t speak, msn chat, dozens of smileys or !!!!!!!!!!, do not short every word. DO NOT WRITE EVERYTHING IN CAPS. Do not type one billion of lines without pressing enter now and then, do not forget puntuation.

- Supply the most information you can give. We can not help your character perfectly if we do not know your fraction, your location, your realm, your level, your ... whatever is relevant. (depends on the question of course).  or similar to this we can not help you with computer related issues if we do not know anything about your specs/errors/operating system in use/etcetcetc.

-use a clear title which already discribes something about the topic. a bad example is 'i need help'. A better example is 'question about druid flight form'. a good example is 'where and how to farm primals' or 'How long did it take YOU to ding 70?' . The title should be a summary of the content, a title is not meant as 'PLEASE NOTICE MY TOPIC'-like cry for help.

- I propose to use a tag so it's even more clear, please add the tag in front of the title. please use one of these tags

Do not
- DO NOT MAKE A NEW TOPIC WITH ONLY CAPITAL LETTERS, we will notice your topic anyway, using only capital letters will only annoy the people trying to answer questions.
In fact, I suggest we report new topics in capital letters and do not reply to them at all.

- Do not make a frustration topic, we all can get a bit frustrated in Warcraft. No need to make a topic just to rant at something. We're very sorry to hear you didn't get the loot you wanted to drop, we're very sorry to hear you're getting corpsecamped, we're very sorry to hear the server/armory is down.. or whatever you are frustrated about, What do you expect us to do about it ?
(The only exception to this rule is this topic ;-) )

- Do not bump your own post if there is no response in several hours. We will reply, unless you dont follow this guide ;)

IS THIS BETUR? I CUN SPEL PWOPERLY BUT U CUN REED IT RITE? CUN U REED IT?

To add another point, don't post things like 'selling xxxx for xxxx on server xxxx' , as it really clogs things up (and few people will read it)

And what's with all the blank posts?

I think blank posts are made by people that are banned,

I am not opposed to the 'selling xx on xx realm' topics when it is about something really rare or in massive quantities. of course /2 is always a better place. - in other words as long as its limited to one or two posts like the selling 2000 ores i dont see a issue. - but then again, i am not a moderator here, i just got a bit frustrated about the decrease in quality of topics that i made this guideline

i ommited
do not create 'i sell gold on www.whatever'  topics.
i doubt the people that make them care about the guidelines :(

I suspect that the gold-selling threads are made by bots

Quite ironic, really, that I live in China and nobody's ever tried to sell gold to me. Ever.

In that case, it would be easier to ban that IP addresses of them.

Seriously if you need to read this thread to realise all these then you haven't grapsed the concept of common sense yet. I think we call people without common sense as retards.

i havent read one thing about 'ZOMFG I DIDNT GET blahblahblah' and the people who say them are usually worthless and we need to state so.

oh and being really retardedly cruel about someone elses P.O.V. is really wrong too... take this from my post about banning animal tattooing:

I belong to PETA as well  PEOPLE EATING TASTY ANIMALS...
yes worry about bloody tattoos on animals...forget about the millions of people in the world needing help..mankind has become so decadant we worry about altruistic crap like this...I'll take my tattooed cow medium well..ty and dead cats make lovely glove liners :)

we're all entitled to our own views and everything but stuff like that is just plain stupid and has no place on this site.

i understand that the writer of this article was trying to be funny but he/she wasnt and so they are a failure.

EDIT: i mean the writer of the article on my post thing not the YELLOW one that this is under

By the way Coz752 I have heard that it does not matter on the score of the topic to make it a sticky but it is if the topic is chosen to be a stickey.Maybe making the score higher helps the chance it will become a stickey?

So it's only the means, not the ends, that we don't know.

I would also include in the Do Nots: "Do not bump your own post unless there is a very good reason for it"

Yes we thought your post was hilarious, yes we thought your post about such and such was really interesting and clever. However, we have moved on to other topics, and we're not that interested in yours any more, sorry. Be thankful for your 5 minutes of fame.

bump: editing a post only to bring it to the top of the list

trolling: To be rude on purpose for its own sake. These people enjoy the ensuing arguments and insults.

flaming: To belittle or ridicule a poster suggestion (to bring it down in flames), usually implying that the poster is stupid. A slight distinction from trolling.

I misread your post and thought you were giving me a hard time.
So basically I made a mistake that could have been preveneted had I been paying more attention. Which brings me to another tip that while simple is one which A LOT of people seem to make (myself included now). Read the post you are replying to at least twice.

you shouldn't post threads on "rules and guidelines" if u are not a moderator.

The fact that a moderator came and made this a sticky is enough of a 'should-of' rather than a 'should-not'.

i agree :D

but since they didnt make one and i felt it was about time someone made it.

i only mentioned normal things - which are unfortunately not obvious for everyone. if i mention complete bullshit i suspect the moderator that made it sticky also have power to modify parts out.

but i agree. not everyone should put up rules. and im not trying to become moderator or made a post like this to show im better as everyone or whatever. i just felt it was missing :)
