Histerical.  Sorry but i was laughing.



Sad but sometimes true.  I work at a University where the students i teach often cannot see past their perfect little lives. It is not always the case, but it is very common for people today to be very self-centered and do not get a look at the world outside of their own perfect little world.  Case in point, my fiance teaches at a public middle school in NJ.  One of the classes she teaches is a current world issues class where the topic of the week was world poverty.  She began by trying to give an example of poverty that the students might be familiar with so she began to discuss to poorer areas of NYC with her class.  After about five minutes, one her students raised her hand and said "Teacher, what are you talking about.  My parents own an apartment in NYC and there is nothing like that at all."  She was obviously talking about the upper east side which houses some of the richest people not just in the city and state, but in the country.  True, there are lots of people highly involved in helping the unfortunate or volunteering their time to aid in worthy causes, but there are just as many people who ignore or are ignorant of the fact that not everybody shares their perfect life.


Medium rare myself.  But thats an arguement to be having with vegetarians, not under this post.

That thing she said actually irritated me.  I know it might not necessarily be her fault for not knowing, but I can't shake off the emotion that there should be some degree of responsibility in knowing that there are a lot of people in the world that live in really bad conditions.  Take myself for example, I've lived in I guess what you can call a 'lower' middle class environment based on the general populace in Canadian cities or if compared to most U.S. cities, mid-middle class to upper-middle class.  However, I am completely aware of the slums of Vancouver, the decay of society around Chinatown and parts of Downtown Vancouver.  I don't see how anyone, even if they live in places like Terra Nova and Shaughnessy (high class, old money) can ignore or be ignorant of this fact. 

However, I am not saying that I do not believe you Scrow.  I am saying that I am irritated that there are people out there that just don't know, or choose to believe otherwise.
