Mostly just preference.
Gnome Mages have int+ which is incredible, along with there escape artist racial, easily makes them very powerful mages, however, according to some people, there small size comes with the price of having terrible visual in areas that are elavated. Human mages, have spirit+. (although that dosent really help you in battle) their perception ability is ok, (with the help of some potions) but the main reason you should decide to be a human mage is if, you want the Diplomacy racial. Dreanei mages are cool, though male ones do look kinda bulky, they have 1% crit plus for everyone is ok, but the main reason you should choose them, is, of course, there Naruu Heal ability. Despite what I said, just make on mage of those three races, and try them out for a few lvls, and see how you like them.

14 mages can do arcane blast so they need not perspition. thats humans out. gnomes have very good int also they have a move to get out of move-ment impeare. us mages need that not,we are casters,not melee weapon artists! int you can get good blue gear with int and stam,so worry not about int thats gnomes out. and dreahei.sweet! they heal,and deal massive amounts of damage atthe same time! conclusion:Humans a no no. gnomes can be a goodie if u have no BC.but if u have BC,dont do these guys! Dreahei are the best.they heal aswell as cast exelent spells.they are supioror to al other mages Hope i helped :) watever. you know why we gnomes use escape artist? not because were meleeing but because they are. were casters so theyll try cc us as much as possible. ive blinked out of thorns and escaped out of ice traps... very useful because if ur toe to toe with a meleer thn ur squished. humans have increased spirit which is good for casters and the rep bonus is awesome. draenai is good cos of heals. especially with evocation and i have a twink rogue and i always wait for a mage to do their aoe thing. when they realize theyre losing mana i go in..
