My pally just got to 70 a couple weeks ago and now I'm about to get him his good gear. I rly want to do tanking, but with the complexity of getting uncritable, uncrushable, and good hp/armor and not being able to get that gear thru bgs and the gear being hard to get and taking awile I don't know if I wanna do that. I wouldn't mind healing or shockdin but I need to know: can I be a pretty much perfect shockdin just from glad lamellar gear?? And can I heal kara with the glad ornamented set??also a good shockadin can bg and do arenas very well is their any other benefits to the shockadin??

It seems like theres some kinda repeat post everyday about one spec of the pally tree... Did u even bother looking thru and checkin out the other threads? I mean its been 3 days since uve posted this... wouldnt it been faster to read than to wait for so long?
To be SOMEWHAT helpful to you, i wanna say this. PVP gear is for PVP. PVE gear is for PVE. If you plan on goin shockadin spec, dont think that u can heal. Also, dont think u can dps. You will be a mediocre dpser and a mediocre healer. You may be able to handle 5 mans (non heros), but once u pass that stage, u will be almost useless. Why? Shock does NOT have good dmg. It doesnt even have the utilities for PVE as a RET pally does. They also have "bleh" healing... so unless ur a 2ndary healer in a heroic, u will NOT be asked into groups. If for some reason you get into one, either by lying or stupidity of the group, be prepared to wipe (unless ur just badass... which doesnt sound like it at this point, no offense). So... if u dont go shock, that leaves u 3 other choices. Prot is NOT a pvp spec. By all means, go spend +80g on a 2v2 and up. Just dont expect to stay in the 1500 bracket. If ur lucky, and land a good partner, u may hover the 1300's... IMO, ull prolly be in the 12's. This is however, a good way to get gear and advance in PVE. Holy is is probably the most versatile of the 4 specs. Yes you can heal instances/raids with ur pvp gear, BUT, dont be surprised if u go OOM faster than any other healer in ur raid. Hopefully you'll have some knowledge in mana efficiency as well or you will fail in heroics. If you go the other route, get pve gear and pvp, be warned yet again that u will most likely get pwned left n right. Lack of resilience means death in arena. Ret is a great pvp spec, BUT unless you are truely skilled or have a guild ready to accept you as a member of a 25 man raid, go expect to do much PVE. If you want to pvp only, dont concentrate on pve gear cuz its almost useless. PVP vs PVE. Now since you most likely do not know what the difference is between the 2 sets are, ill break it down for you in the simplest way. PVE gear has +hit (and spl) and more regen. PVP gear has more stam and resilience. Why do these sets have these? Resilience allows u to minimize the amt of crits that land on u as well as the dmg done by them. Stam allows u to live longer. These are both characteristics of you gettin pounded on as a healer in pvp. You DO NOT need these stats in PVE since ur not supposed to be gettin hit. If u do get hit, you or the tank is doing something wrong... and most likely need to go back to the kiddy instances. PVE gear has +hit, which is mainly used for fighting mobs that are higher lvl than you. Since u only fight ppl the same lvl, this is almost useless. Also, as mentioned about the pvp gear, the lack of those stats will get you killed time n time again even by ppl not so geared. So again, pick what u wanna do... PVE or PVP. If u cant decide, pick what u wanna do more than the other. From there, decide what u wanna do... tank/heal/dps. After u decide that, start collecting the gear. If you think im givin u false info, go ur way and lemme know how it goes. Just make sure that have some tough skin cuz u will get some bad critism
Thanks for the info on this m8. Think al opt pvp for this char and concentrate my War on pve as a tank now hes hit 70.
Good post.
retpally i usually agree with you on things but shockadins actually make awesome healers when i spec my pally shock the only things im missing from a holy pally is kings (and if ur raiding there should at least be ONE pally with it and if ur not doing raid who cares?), that 50% less mana per spell move which isnt that big of a deal and that thing that reduces cast time for holy light by .5 secs which again is not that big of a deal. for dps, yes shockadins are not great for pve but it is possible for you to be invited to groups as long as you do some off healing and for pvp shockadins own big time.

Ahhh, its been a long time since ive been here... Well ROFL, you have to look at it this way. First off, the type of gear u currently have AS shock will determine what type of instance ur capable of healing. If its weak, ur lookin at weaker 5 mans. Medium? upper 5 mans. High-great?, maybe something like kara... and MAYBE a heroic... again MAYBE is that key word. Now i completely agree with u on the 41 pt talent... no u do not need that to be a better healer. You do however need +heals and mp5. Now i dunno if this slipped ur mind but what really is a shockadin? What are their main stats? A shockadin is a pally dps caster. They use ranged atks with holyshock and judgements. When they are on CD, they have to rely on their melee hits triggering SoR hits. So basically, they are SD (Spl Dmg) based holy pallies. Now what is a holy pally? Or more specifically, what is a Healadin. Ok they are the SAME THING as a "shockadin". The differences are 2 things... they have pts into prot instead of ret to help with surviability, shock has pts in ret instead of prot for more dmg. And 2, holy has +HEALS, shock has +SD. So now to sum this up. If u have 1000 SD as shock, yes u can dps. And unless u have a 2nd set for healing, 1000 +healing is nub. U may be able to get into a raid (meaning lowbie kara), but GL being the main healer for any heroic. So again, shock is called "Shockadin" not becuz u simply have that spell.. its to signify that u are a SD DPS'er... and NOT a "healadin". If u have heal gear and call urself a shockadin, then i dunno wtf ur thinkin. PVP wise, shockadins are pretty dead except for 5's. 3's may work, but ppl dont take them seriouslly. So again, shock spec may sound fun, and it may be for that matter. Buts pretty much pvp only... not at all pve =/. And if u wanna pvp as a pally? Go heals or ret...
Retpally27, I appreciate your insight into the pally. I have a Pally that will soon be a lvl70 and I find your explanation of the technical aspects of the Pally very comprehensive. Do you know of a place, book or some other reference that you could go to that tells you the workings of your character wether it be Pally, mage, etc.?? I think the more you understand the capabilities of your character and the capabilities of you spells, buffs, talents, etc. the better off you will be to set up your speck. Also if you don't want to spend the time in the BG then the only way to get your Epic gear is Dungeons, correct?? Any futher insight you have especially on the pally is appreciated. Would you mind shareing your Pally speck? I know you are retbut I'd be interested.
You can get some epics from Rep rewards. They are decent. Aslo, doing kara/gruuls with your guild is another easy way. Heroics are actually a little harder then kara IMO. If you have all blues then you should be fine in kara/some heroics. PVP will help augment your lack of gear untill you get gear from raids.
