Yeah, hunters can be a pain. I used to avoid them when possible, but now that I've developed a good strategy for dealing with them, I seek them out as easy targets. No matter if you get the first hit or if he gets the jump on you, here is how you can deal with it. Instead of engaging in a melee attack the hunter will attempt to run away and bring his pet in to grind you down from behind. When this happens, turn and either blind or gouge the pet. Once the pet is incapacitated, activate sprint so you can catch the hunter and disrupt the firing sequence. Best case, he just keeps running and you can tear him down, worst case he makes a stand and waits for the pet to come back. If the pet comes back simply repeat the process without sprint. Using crippling poison on the MH will ensure that the hunter doesn't get very far. Deadly Poison on the OH will keep dealing damage and prevent him from bandaging himself. I hope this stategy works for you as well as it has worked for me.

From a hunter stand point, I would just drop a freezing or frost trap, concussive shot and just keep you at a distance.

Granted there are several counters to everyones playstyle. I play a Gnome Rogue and would simply use my racial to break frost. I've aslo specced combat so my sprint would also break any movement impairing effects. Vanish can also break me out, but it would slow me down far to much to catch you. I'm not saying that this strategy will always work, but the easiest class for me to defeat is the hunter. As far as a hunter vs rogue, I would say that your stategy would be the most useful in preventing me from getting inside melee range.

From a rogues stand point i would use trinket, CoS, vanish, shadowstep, premediation, ambush, kidneyshot... do some dps... bye bye hunter (lol... not always).  Dont worry about pet, I mostly ignore it.

The main concern when fighting hunter is to stay in close combat. Cripling poison is VERY helpful. When he manage to run out of your range, deadly throw can do a lot.

Just remember... STAY CLOSE... distant hunter = dead rogue :)

I know that in PvP, a hunter's worst enemy is sprint. no matter what, getting in my face that quickly, regardless of wing clip or concussive, will stop me in my tracks.

If you have been hit with serpent sting you can't vanish.  Well, you can, but then you'll unstealth because of the dot.  By then trap cooldown should be up as well as concussive again :)

After vanish u still have time for shadowstep + ambush before unstealth

Serpent sting is a nature damage DOT.

If you read my earlier comment, vanish is only the last resort so DOT doesn't make much difference.

BTW, I've thrown the gauntlet and you've not yet accepted my challenge. I may be a lvl 49, but I'm all hopped up on mountain dew. I'll scissor kick your hunter in the back of the head. I'm gonna come at you like a spider monkey!

I never had a problem killing rogues on my hunter, Bestial Wrath is a wondrous skill to have, pop it, slow the rogue down, next thing you know: dead rogue.

Why is it that so many hunters cruise the rogue forums. Could it be that the hunters are getting owned and are looking for a weak spot?

At eary levels I was totally unable to kill huntard, but when levels grew higher, hunters were becoming easier and easier.
Now seeing hunter iv 2v2 makes me really happy :))

hunters being on my worst side, dont know why they have the best of me.

i know one way to kill them  easier is to slow them down with poisons, but it's even hard to do with that, they throw a trap your stuck and they are out of your reach, i think the best way to get close to them if they see you is to sprint get a few combos on them, if you get stuck by trap wait till they hit and deadly throw and just keep stunning, so far these worked for me but not all the time, still trying to find one way to shut down a hunter,

oh if they go melee just riposte them and you have an advantage, blind pet to avoid constant damage, vanish if you have the energy to throw a cheap shot in

Ya obviously hunters dont know what a surprise they are in for when they hit 50. Rogues will dominate hunters when they hit 50. Now that im 70 and in full S1 and I can take S3 hunters. Bestial Wrath is nothing.... All you do is COS and Vanish then wait it off they only have like 18 seconds of it.  Then once that is gone depending on your spec either pop up with a cheap shot or an ambush and kidney shot at 5 combos and that makes a dead hunter. =D

i play a hunter and i can kill rogues and somtimes i cant most of the time they run away n vaish when they get low on hp but there not too hard if u engineer cause use net trap n stuff but it depends some rogues hit very high n kill me its just random for me

hunters are piss easy,the only hunter you should have troubs with is 'survival'the rest are just pathetic the only troubs any hunter shold give you is track hidden,thats the only woe for me anyways as a rogue

IMO rogues DO NOT suck against hunters.
They suck only against palas, and SOMETIMES wariors and druids.

A good ShS rogue will always beat a hunter.
If you get the jump, open with CS, shiv crippling poison. A good hunter will most likely trinket your crippling poison, scatter shot you, and run away and begin his kiting sequence. This is probably the right time to shadowstep behind him and get him crippled again. When he feigns/lays down freezing trap, you must trinket this ASAP. sprint back up to him and keep him crippled, and soon enough, you should have a dead hunter.

PS : Evasion might be a smart choice to try to negate the pet.

From my experiences as a hunter, I usually kill rogues. They stun then after that stun is over i use either Freezing Trap or Intimidation. I back up, concussive shot then whenever he gets near me, i wing clip. This keepshe back for a while. One on one against a rogue...I usually win. Especially if I see him coming, Flare ftw. Yes, I do sometimes have problems with rogues, ut not many. The reason I'm reading this forum btw is b/c I have a 31 rogue and when i saw this section, I kinda laughed in side. No offence, I love my rogue, really fun class and enjoy playing him. But still if your going to say that a rogue will win most of the time against a hunter, then you must be facing some sucky hunters.

Paladins are annoying and they should nerf their stupid healing spells and decrease the the duration of their pussy bubble spells. >:[

i get owned by rogues every now and then but when i turn the tables they vanish. i could whine but pallys bubble and healers heal.

You have never been killed by warrior.... lol... i dont know what warriors have you met, but i do know, that warrior is not an easy kill for rogue in 1v1 situation, so I asume :
either you have only met "green geared" warriors or you always run away from warriors when close to death LOL... in that cases I could admit that warriors are not a problem LOL
It is also possible that you are an imba rogue, owning everything you meet. If that is the case then... "RESPECT"

To Braggnark, Escape Artist doesn't break freezing trap sorry to say. I have a 70 Hunter and a 34 Rogue, I've tried many times but it doesn't seem to work. It will say: "Can't use that while frozen" or something like that sorry to say. The reason I made meh rogue is b/c my hunter has the hardest time against you guys. I say it's an even match up ^_^

Rogue is greater than hunter, always. even when hunter gets first hit, I usually lose, even with deterrence, they just vanish or cloak of shadows. soooooo many cc's its ridiculous, trap worthless cause of trinket. lets name all of the abilities rogues get to beat hunters, cos, vanish, kidney shot, gouge, sap, sprint, blind, crip posion. if those arent enough, you are the worst rogue ever if your gear and his gear are the same. OH, I forgot evasion with the dodge, and shadowstep and the talent that reduces all damage, I have had a rogue kill me with practically no health because of that skill. rogues survivability is way tooo high in my opinion. Maybe if counter attack was usable after dodge, might give reason to run aspect of monkey and might give counter attack viability. and that other rogue was right, cos > beastial wrath.

drop a trap concussion shot arcance shot then serpent then repeat by that time...this is only possible if you can see them and there at a distance.. rogues tear me up with melee.

Rogues usually always beat huntards. Lets say your a rogue dueling a huntard. The huntard is usually going to stand in one spot with a flare and trap under him. Your not going to get the first shot any way. Just hit up sprint and go right in. The trap is gonna freeze you. Insignia and run up to the huntard and shiv some crippling poison on. Huntard is prolly gonna use Beast Within here and get some distance. Use shadowstep to break the distance and hit up Evasion (You cant take the DPS huntards deal out with beast within) and maybe throw in a ghostly strike if you have it. Huntard is prolly gonna have another trap up. Use Cloak of Shadows as soon as u see him put the trap down (CoS can let u resist traps except the snake one) and keep up the dmg on him. His Beast Within should be down by now and you can get on a Kidney Shot or Vanish and start off a new combo. Hunter might use insignia to break your kidney shot so it might be best to vanish in some cases. Note that vanish DOES remove the hunter mark. Huntard is prolly gonna use feign death somewhere in there so just target him again and attack away. Do not let him get distance no matter what.

I am an admitted noob so you can dispense with the insults, but what Trinket do you speak of? My main is a 61 NE rogue.

It's worth saying that Cloak of Shadows will allow you to resist FREEZING Traps (single-target immobilizer), not FROST Traps (AoE slow).

i have the hardest time against hunters in general pvp bgs. 1v1 i blind the pet. sprint to the huntard. stun rinse repeat.

im a 70 ne hunter (bm spec), and i beat about 80% of the rogues i meet even those that are geared better than me. My tactic works most of the time-

when they get the opener, i use beastial wrath. At this moment i kno that most rogues do use COS and vanish which is why i spam serpent sting to get the DOT on them right after they use COS but b4 vanish (theres no CD on serpent sting and i hit them with the sting about 80% of the time). Even if they do get the vanish in, i flare the spot that they vanished and if i can reach it. Then when they reappear (behind me or not) ive alredy layed down a snake trap, attempt a wing clip and use a concussive shot. This gives me time to get some distance and no sprint still doesn't allow them to catch up to me. From then, i grind their hp down using my hit combo (steady shot, arcane shot, multi-shot because it hits harder than a normal shot, and a normal shot). by now beastial wrath is gone but when they are getting closer i use intimidation to buy me time for another one of my combos. now the rogue is dead considering my pet was grinding their life that whole time.

BM hunter + my tactic = dead rogues =P

also i beat them coz i got a fair bit of stamina.

I guess you run into good players or bad, the other night I was so elegantly killed by a rogue it was a thing of beauty, he got the jump on me, he was behind me and had me stunned till I was dead.


On the other hand, there are those rogues who even though they jumped you,  they end up jumping around in front of you. they think they are so cool jumping around swignig at you. If your a huntard you try to click on them to attack, and in the mean time get free shots.

But a smart hunter just hits the tab key when the jackrabit is in front. After the one key press, throw scattershot. While the bunny is stunned get distance cast aimed shot, just before it goes send pet, after it hits cast concussive, then arcane, then serpent sting. Tt this point a rogue with half a brain tries to flash out, which may or may not not work by it should buy some time.

The dumb ones come at you, blunder into the frost trap and a quick wing clip and then get kited to death jumping the whole time( btw whats with the jumping?).

And yes other than I do have another toon that is one , I look here to see what hole there are, it is only smart. And yes a good rogue is a major PIA

As with all mele classes if a hunter gets distance your dead if not the hunter is dead.

warriors are meh kinda easy but if u get to 20% ur dead lol unless u evasion =)
pallys are annoying lol all i do when a pally bubbles is move back and restealth. that gets my sstuns back up. when he heals w/ out bubble usually kick and wound poison .

otherwise i dunno how ur having trouble with a warlock coz they should be very easy with cloak of shadows and a fast HIGH dps and stuns.

if BW: the rogue will wait for it  to run out and then Cheap shot u and cripple u and later kidney shot then u freeze him and he trinkets outta it and shadowsteps behind u and backstabs.

then he will prolly use another stun and he will sprint and evasion at the best chance/.
