It's easy.  Stop being verbally violent towards people regardless of what they do and how newbish they are. 

For me, I get irritated by a lot of players in WoW - trade, general, LFG, raids, parties, etc, etc, etc.  What do I do?  Block them.  What else do I do?  Avoid them.  Do I ever defend myself if I've been wronged?  Of course!  But you will rarely see me swear or say a bunch of crap to try to piss people off.

There is obvious aggression and there is tact.

One more thing, when you subscribe to WoW, you become a denizen of a dictatorship.  Blizzard is emperor.  Its GM's are the judges, jurors, executioners rolled into one.  Don't expect true democracy to exist in a game that you pay to play.  It's just simply how it works.  If you want civil liberties, and you think Blizzard should be sued, then you're on your own on screwing up a perfectly awesome game.  Yes, there are asses that would rather ruin a game for everyone just to satisfy their own ego, and you seem quite close to being one of those people.

For me, I will continue to subscribe to this game.  There is a nice player in roughly ten or twenty on some servers.  That is reflective of how the world is like.  If you don't like it, no one is forcing you to play.  No one is forcing you to pay to stay.  There are literally hundreds of MMO's on the market.  If you don't like the 8 to 12 year olds who take it out on other players because they have no outlet in real life, then I suggest you go play Online Chess or Online Scrabble.  I'm sure you will find WAY less 8 to 12 year olds bitching to GM's about something so trivial and then get suspended for it.

In my more than 3 years playing this game, I've gone through numerous experiences - both bad and good - mostly bad.  What do I do?  Get a bit pissed and call it a night.  Have I ever been suspended or banned?  Never.  Why?  Because like I said, I never try to piss other people off or mouth them off.  If someone isn't helpful, we boot him or her.  If someone acts like an idiot, we block them.  Has anyone ever talked trash on trade about me?  Never happened even once.  Anything closest to 'talking trash' was when Yeh I'm A Mage on Thott forums opened a thread solely about my 'mocking' attitude towards some members whom seem to have very serious eye problems.

It's one thing to be blunt with a hint of sarcasm but a totally different thing to be vulgar and hostile.

You must not be read in the law.  The freedom of speech only goes so far and is not a blanket for you to hide under.  It does not permit you to say whatever to whomever you'd like.  If you are staying something that potentially may result in a riot, you may be forced to stop.  Look it up, its a supreme court case out of New York State.  Also, saying "I'll kill you" over the internet...hmm...I think that could be interpreted as a terroristic threat...not very smart the kid.

I dont mind people cursing, but the people who say "Please dont use the word 'hell' my son is playing the game and he's only 7" is what ticks me off, honestly last time i checked the game was rated T, not E, also theres the function you can enable that blocks out words like those. Honestly and they think im wrong.    There should be a function that blocks out BS because what their son is exposed to is not my problem.

No, I believe what he's saying is that sometimes we say stuff to ourselves like "What the hell was that all about?" and some dad becomes sensitive to something trivial like that due to possible religious reasons, and Sinfury becomes irritated.  I don't think it's about insulting other players and simply just about saying a phrase that isn't universally thought as a cursing word like "hell". 

It's like one of our party members saying "Oh my god!"  I was a little surprised when someone else in group responded with "Hey!  Don't say the Lord's name in vain!"

Then a slight argument ensued with the Christian and the Catholic.  Good thing the instance just finished.  As they argued, I said, "Well, ummm, thanks for group everyone.  I'll let you two duke it out without my presence."

I had a weird experience with the automatic game word-censoring system. For some reason it does not like my wife's name "Ikuko".

I typed something like "I have to go downstairs for a sec, Ikuko is calling me. brb", and the system actually stopped the whisper with a red warning message.
After typing it 3 times, I stopped. I didn't want to get banned because of this, lol.

Any one has any ideas where the hidden swear-word is in my wife's name, please ?

I am slightly amused by the number of offended people on this game. Ms. manners would be proud. I know there is a greater number of easily offended people than rude people and that WOW is doing this to increase revenues. They'll lose a rude player to gain a family.

It's ironic though, the name of the game is WORLD of WARCRAFT.
I mean think about it. Making a death threat on a game where you are constantly being killed anyway, laughable. A father wanting to teach his son good moral values on WOW, sad.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, World of Warcraft itself may be just a game, but because it is a massive multiplayer game where hundreds of thousands of other players play on servers at any given time, the game stops being 'just a game' at that point. 

The game is only just a game on the elements that you play - dressing your toon, levelling, getting items, rep, etc.  However, it stops being 'just a game' when other people are involved with their own personalities and such.

It isn't the game itself that people are being serious about.  It's the people who interact through the game with other players that people are serious about.  Why do you think there are brawls at sports events amongst spectators at times?  The same idea applies here.

Regardless, like in my first post, all anyone could do to stop someone else from harassing them is simply to put them on ignore.  That would solve a lot of unnecessary problems. 

To skolnik34: I don't think you really understand that age and mental maturity do not necessarily mean the same thing.  A 15 year old can be more mature and intelligent than a 40 year old, but a 40 year old can also be more mature and intelligent than a 15 year old.  It's like comparing a rocket scientist with a farmer - different knowledge, different upbringing, and different levels of maturity.

For example, you said "and we all know some of the stupidest comments came from adults rather than the children" - that shows you lack consideration in terms of how an individual can be pertaining to many things in a person's life from the time they were born all the way leading up to being an adult, etc.  I am guessing you are between age 25 to 35 - just a wild guess, but I am also guessing you're not a Chief Executive Officer of a fortune 500 company or an engineer from NASA? 

You see, intelligence does not make up a person's maturity.  I'm sure you have your own set of ethics and your personal way of handling things.  Obviously, the 'sheer ignorance' is shared by all on varying levels - including myself.

I agree. There is a warning on this game. But how many parents really CHECK on what their kids are doing online anymore? Or read into the rate. Their kid wants a game. They buy it. I really hate to sound like that but its the truth. Because I see it. 9/10 parents dont read into what their kids buy or what could possibly be in the game enviroment.

What this guy did was definatly deserving of what he got. However... i find a little truth in it. You can cuss a bit without insulting someone you know..like "Wtf where the hell is my boots" or "leveling in stv is a bitch." i've never been banned, but i was having quite a  bit of trouble in stv, horde were ganking the hell out of me. i said "leveling in stv is a bitch" in general chat, someone reported me. Put a filter on please.. my god. But if someone is competing with you over prismatics and you cuss him out for it, i hope you get banned, if you cuss someone out for not healing you in a bg, i hope you get banned. Seriously man if you want to stop getting banned you should stop talking shit about people.
