Got our second drop of this tonight from the trash pack of 5-6 blood elves just before brutallus.

After missing the 1st drop of this on the wednesday due to my account expiring (a pala won on a roll) I was very pleased to see it drop again so soon :)

Glad to be part of a sensible guild.... as soon as this dropped there was no arguing/debate over who should get it. All I heard was "Grats Amaryliss". The fact our 2 dps warriors have 1 or both warglaives kind of rule them out of going after this when it's clearly so good for a hunter.

To round of a good night we killed Brutallus about 30 mins later. He was on 2% at the enrage and then started 1 shotting everyone but we managed to finish him off.... had about 3 dps left at the end (me being 1 of them) and most of the healers.

Yes I know half this is off topic :)

What kind of gear do you need to do Sunwell Platea. I want this thing so bad. Would Gladiator gear suffice?

      PWN wep btw. ty blizzard!

It's harder than Black temple and is designed to be where you go after you have finished or almost finished that.

As this is a trash drop you might be able to get it with gladiatior gear but you would need a raid group even to deal with the trash.

I have heard about people farming the 1st trash pack with a small group... they apparently used 5 or so mages then just sheeped everything before killing 1 mob at a time. They leave the last mob sheeped then exit the instance. Leaving the sheep and then exiting and re entering means the whole trash pack respawns and you can the basically repeatedly farm the trash pack till you get the drop / drops you want.

I guess the Legendary bow, and all other ranged weapons should be given to Warriors and Rogues right? Since they use them for the stats and NOT the dps like you.

I believe the point is that in this case a Hunter would get the most of the stats on the weapon, unlike a pally who would mostly get a good weapon speed and min/max damage, whereas with the Legendary Bow the Hunter gets both the most out of the stats AND the most out of using the bow.

Best hunter weapon in game atm.

But why do i have a srange feeling when i look at the stats? Damn, what's the heck's wrong with its damage? 140.4 DPS for hunter who doesn't do melee?

How about other classes and the raid utility of this baby? Let's take an example of retribution pally with BoK and Divine strength talents with Cataclism's Edge and compare it with Shivering Felspine in terms of pure DPS contribution from stats (i took an example of one of the classic weapons for retribution. it has the same speed too, so it's easier to compare):

    Cataclism's Edge
    138 DPS
    75 str
    +10% from Divine strength
    +10% from BoK
    means +21% str combined
    means 90.75 str, let's say 91
    91 str=182 ap
    14 ap=1 DPS
    182/14=13
    138+13=151
151 DPS from Cataclism's Edge. 335 armor ignore is useless against heavy armored targets and have limited contribution unless it's stacked with other pieces of gear and a warrior is keeping stacked sunder armor against a cloth wearer.

    Shivering Felspine:
    140.4 DPS
    52 agi
    53 haste
    120 ap
    yellow socket bonus: 5 ap
let's say: Inscribed Pyrestone with 5 str and 5 crit  (6 str with talents=12 ap)
    total ap: 120+5+12=137
    137/14=9.78 let's say 9.8
    140.4+9.8=150.2
150.2 DPS is 0.8 less than Cataclism Edge, BUT!!!
Crit: Pallys need 35 agi for 1% crit at lvl 70, means 52/35=1.48 % crit +5/22.1 from gem=1.7% crit (the same as Torch of the damned)
Haste: 53 haste rating. Well about haste i'm not really sure. Different sourses give me different info about speed and dps modifications. It's either 5% dps increase or 3.2% dps increase. So just pick the one that you judge correct. Anyway, it's either 157.7 or 155 DPS.

Now what was that?!! Is this weapon "hunter only"?
Every1 see agility, haste and ap on any sword or polearm and scream "HUNTER WEAPON!". Think again.
Best hunter weapon? Yes! But does the hunter have the priority to take this weapon first? My opinion, it's THE best retro pally weapon as well. Good thing this weapon drops from trash mobs, so every1 could get it (not only hunters).

    And couple of last things.
I analysed this weapon from RAID DPS point of view, where sta doesn't have much importance for dps classes (except warlocks who life tap to replenish their mana).
Personally, i'll leave this weapon to hunter if he/she doesn't have Hallberd of Desolation, if hunter has it, than i'll roll without hesitation.
For PvP the situation it's a bit different.
I also analysed it from retribution paladin's point of view only. Would be great if some1 could do the math for warriors and hunters, cause the stats and weapon type contribution is different for those classes. I could do it, but i'm already too tired to type.

EDIT: i made a little mistake with crit calculations. Actually it's  25 agi per 1% crit for pally, so the actual crit is 52/25=2.08%. With BoK its 57/25=2.28%. And a little sweet bonus of dodge. It's the same agility per 1% of dodge.

ummm not to say that only a hunter can use this, but grit ur wrong about many things.  First off, since when do ret pallies beat hunters in raid dps? I have only raided with 2, but on even fights like gorefiend there is no way a ret paladin can beat a hunter.

Secondly, you are ignorant if you say hunters don't have utility.  BM hunters bring the stacking Ferocious Inspiration party wide buff, but mainly Survival hunters give the raid target the legendary debuff known as Expose Armor.  So yeah that increases ap for the entire raid group. The debuff's effect is scaled directly off the hunters' agility.  This being the Most agi packed on a melee wep makes me think it should be defaulted to a hunter and most likely a survival hunter.

Besides ur buffs (i dont consider buffs utility as we often park our pally alts outside and buff everyone b4 we enter) What raid utility do ret paladins have other than being able to keep up a judgement of wisdom?

I agree, cheeseme1 you are clueless. Sadly, your opinion seems to be shared by a vast number of players, so I will try to explain it:
Utility a ret paladin brings to a raid:
-First, another blessing. Anyone that has done Sunwell knows the current state of the holy pala class. It's terrible (and I play a holly pala in SW :S). Bringing a third blessing in the form of a ret pala is surely a nice idea.
        - Improved Judgment of the Crusader, which is a +3% crit for all dps, melee and caster alike. That alone accounts for more dps than the expose armor buff of the survival hunt.
        - +2% damage increase for his party, in the form of Improved sanctity aura. Ever seen a dual Warglaive rogue with this??
        - The ability to refresh ALL of the judgments. Just ask the hollys or prot to judge at the start of the fight, and bang, you have JoW and JoL for the entire fight, provided the pala refreshes the judgments with Crusader Strike.
        - Wipe recovery in the form of Divine Intervention. Not terribly useful, but it has utility.
All of this, added to decent dps. Move on retards, ret pallys are viable now, and they rock.
And on topic, yes this is the best ret pala weapon bar the sword from KJ. It is also the best polearm for hunts. However benefits the most from the drop, or DKPs and gratz.
        Just my 2 cents

90% of the hunters her won't see this weapon. 5% are greedy and take it from their guild's ret paladin. The other 5% are smart and realize it's stupid for them to take a melee weapon from a melee class first.

Hunters, this is no doubt a fantastic weapon for you. But pass it to the Ret pally, or even Arms war first. If you'd steal this from them, then you might as well have no problems with a warrior or rogue taking a new ranged weapon that is an upgrade for YOU.

Ranged weapons are stat sticks for warriors and rogues. They should get them after hunters. Melee weapons are stat sticks for Hunters. They should get them after melee classes.

You dont need to be in t6 to farm this shit.
All you need it is minimum 5 mages, 1-2 good t4-t5 tank, good aoe healers.
DPS doesnt really matter. You can do this with 12-15 ppl.

Have a hunter MD the 1st pack AVOIDING the Sunblade Protector. (The protector cast chain lightning non stop for 4k, impossible to take down in a small raid)
Sheep all targets and except 1 (healer) and burn it 1 by 1 while keeping the rest sheeped. Loot it.
Proceed with 2nd pack. Repeat the same thing and loot it.

Run out, disband raid, switch another raid leader and reform raid.
    Rinse and repeat.

My server does this Pug all the time to farm new leet patterns, epics, sunmotes and gems.
Ya. Shivering Felspine drops like candy too. In fact, it drop twice in one run last 2 weeks ago.

Some retridin above said: most of you don't even raid sunwell... are ya stupid I mean you must be retarted to bring a retridin in you raids go spec prot or holy way more usable that a stupid retridin. the only thing you bring to a raid is maybe improved sanctuary aura 2 % damage increase, we got ferociuous inspiration 3% damage increase and an experienced hunter can keep this up all the time.
This clearly is better for survivalist hunter then it is for paladins. survival spec + 15 % agility put 10 agility socket in this you wel get 62 agi + 35 from the enchant = 97 agility with the talents it will be about 113 agility you get from this baby.
      desolation spear --> 51 + 35 = 86, with talent about 99 agility.
in addition the felspine spear had 20 more ap. the only thing you migth discuss about is if one rather prefers hit or haste (easy without the hit from desolation to get the hit rating cap so rather go for haste).

anyways i'd say a Survival hunter should get this above a retridin.

If you think a ranged class should get a stat stick over a class that will actually swing the weapon you're a terribad player and should uninstall. Vice vera, Warriors and rogues should not get a ranged over a Hunter. If you think the opposite you're also a terribad player.

Passing a stat stick to a class that is going to replace it in a couple weeks is not always the smartest thing to do. I'm sure there are plenty of guilds that would rather have their hunters pick up their best-in-slot then see it go to BurritoMan so he could sate his greed for a week or two before getting Apolyon the Soul-Render. A hunter will not need to change this weapon upon respeccing to other talent trees. Having said all above, to a hunter this weapon is worth more than it is to other classes. Although pallys and warrior can use it as well; I would rather give this to a hunter; it means the world to them. To ninja this from a hunter is as bad as taking milk from an infant; when you can eat everything else. A bit of an exaggeration but you get the point. Happy Trash Farming!
