Anybody hazard a guess at the average age of a WoW player?

What's the average maturity of a WoW player? Because some children act like adults, while some adults seem like children. I acknowledge that there probably are no statistics on this, and so that's why I'm asking you.
And to start off, I've found that most players I've met are quite mature (and polite), but that gives no indication of their real age.
Also, I'm 15, before anybody asks. And no, this isn't some school project.

I would say the average age is 20-25. However, based on the annoying chats that go on in trade channels and barrens general, as well as the maturatity i have seen in some instances, i would say the median age is about 8....

The guild that I run with, has ages of 21,25,30,34. And I think
the one guy is in his 40s.
Though most of the kids that are also in the guild are kids of the guild members. I believe there are at least two 8 year olds and a 12 year old.
I will have to agree though. I see more adults act like kids then anything else. I think thats why so many say that one faction or the other is more "childish". Its not the faction. Its just the people playing the faction.
What? The faction is made from people playing the faction. Alliance/Horde minus players = NPCs?
Some people make the remark that all Alli or all Horde are just kids. Or that all NE or all UD are kids.
And thats not the fact.

21 myself but most of the people i play (wow) with are between 16-45 and i was astonished to find out the other day that we have a oap in our guild who is 72...

I am Thornton ... a Warrior Tauren. Basically a beginner of two weeks, and a lvl 17. I will be 63 yrs old in 3 days. I agree with one thing ... the average age seems to be young adult, but there are many of us out here who are "older". One person I know of is in his 80's. I got involved because I was bored, and a friend recommended this game...glad she did!
I'm 39, and I know of at least a dozen other people IRL around my age who play. I know there are a lot of mature players out there, but the more I play the more I have to wonder just how many of these idiots I run into are just children <insert young age here>. I think a lot of parents just decided that an internet connection and $15 a month is much cheaper than hireing a babysitter to watch thier children for several hours a day.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I know plenty of people my age who act like idiots as well.

well on the weekdays the average age is about 23 but once the weekends come it drops to 13 lol

funny thing...many people in WoW seem to be younger than they really are, while others more mature...and a few act their own age...i guess you really are as old as you feel :)
Ok this is how it works for me. I HAD a twink 39 rogue... when i played him i acted like a little kid. Then when i got on my main i would act more mature. Well my "alt" is a 70 hunter and i act like a child on him as well. On the BG's i will sometimes act like a tank and run in the middle of a group of horde and hit Drums of Panic because i like to act like a lock for 2 seconds and it is funny as hell...

Yeah, well I guess having complete anoynimity brings out the worst in some people. So even "mature" adults can act like idiots since they know there will be no repercussion for their actions. So, basically cowards. They hide behind their computer and act in a way they would never act in real life. Or lot of them may be repressed people, who feel safe enough online to let their true personality show. Either way I just see them as sad people, igonore them, and move on. Ok, that looks off topic. Guess all I'm saying is that I think those are a few reasons why it's so hard to judge people's age online.
I'd say #1 Age Range is about 13-17 and #2 is 20-35

Yeah... I'm 15 also, and I am surprised at how many teens around our age play WoW, I know most of my wow-friends are around 15 too.
There is a paly i know of, who started out with me as our BE, and he is now only lv 18 (im lv 49)
So I considered he was like less than 13 years old... (you can usually tell if someone is really young)
But now he tells me he's a 65-year-old!
In conclusion, I think I am now going to Org, standing on a mailbox, and continually asking ppl for their age... could get results, or kicked off =D
I'm 26. Have a few friends same age and a couple friends in their 30's.
Kinda helps to be able to make your own online payments...not mom and dad for some.
I am almost 13...I know what a shocker...but seriously EVERY TIME i tell my friends that they go "WOW...you act way more mature then most people your age".It gets a little annyoing...

im 14 and when i started playing i was surprised how many adults play this game (i think thats a good thing that they still like to hav fun) my parents wouldnt play with a waterslide even if it was right infornt of them anywayz i dont think its about age its about their personality the yonguest player i hav seen was 9 and he wasnt the fastest typer but was nice and mature the oldest i hav seen was i think 36 or 37 and he was nice to i reckon the average age would b 16-25 but im not sure
Well the way I see it if you can speak proper, respectable english without any OMFGWTFROTFLMAOUSEEMEPWNNUBS and can hav a real conversation with someone then your mature enough to make friends and be successful in the social part of the game. As for the age range 7-100 =) Thats why WoW is so popular. Age is a state of mind.

i myself am 17 and i have 2 friends that play (1 is 16 the other 19) i also know an old lady who plays(i think shes 60 something)...i personally dont think that im that immature but there are some real retards out there...young or old
well, looking at the people who have posted on here, i have to say that the most common age is 15, which happens to be my age. i actually have never asked a person their age before, i've just never really had the urge to tell you the truth. i think that the numerical age of the person behind the character really has no impact on how the person is as a player. i am constantly surprised by the immaturity of many players on WoW. just today i was playing and there were a few obnoxious people who decided that it was a good idea to make jokes about different nationalities on the general channel. people completely let go of themselves when they are hiding behind a computer. their maturity level shows through completely and their actual age is completely pushed aside. it actually would be nice on WoW if the older players would act their age and younger players would respect that there are more mature people playing on WoW...
I suppose I'm far from the "average" age... I'm 62. My next door neighbor is 66. We both play WoW almost every day.
no idea on average age or maturity... but this is what i will add. I myself am 25, wife is 23 and we both play. My mother in law plays and she is about to turn 50 and my brothers in law are 17 and 27 and they both play. i couldnt really imagine my 8 to 12 year old nephews and nieces playing... keep thinking that they are too young... but some of you say there are 8 year olds playing...that to me is amazing. My maturity fluctuates depending on which toon im playing... if its my 49 twink... i get retarded while waiting on queue on the trade channel for the hell of it...on my lowbie druid... im the coolest guy around.
I am 73 and I enjoy the game very much - except for the FOUL Language some players seem to think is appropriate.

I'm 55. I'm a female. I've got 4 level 70s. I've been playing since 2005 and have been to Blizzcon. I also play GH3 on medium. I have been playing games since "Adventure" on the IBM (eventually became Zork). I have been rp/mmo'ing since the early days of MOOs/MUDs/MUSHes (text-based, programmable). etc etc etc I'm in one guild that is mostly over 35. LOL. We've downed GRUUL. I'm in another guild that's mostly under 28. Ya never know. Don't assume anything.

s playing this game seems to think that"The dumb kiddies are ruining our game". Um... Video Games are meant for children. I'm 13, The ESRB says I should be playing this game. If you're out of college and playing wow, don't be po'd that younger people play the game. It's MEANT for them. I play a Tauren Shaman, about to ding 42, and it's a pain in the ass to hear people judge based on age as opposed to maturity. One time a guy told me he estimated I was 18 by my intellegence level... Most people think I'm at least 16 by hearing me over VC... And I'm not a douche. So am I really worse or less mature than some 32 year old asshead who thinks that he's so great because he deserves to play the game than me? Really... And it's not like it's even valid. I don't suck. I'm spec'd elemental. I kill full BM spec'd hunters a few levels higher than me with a bit of thinking. So how does anyone deserve to play this damn game any more than I do when I'm good at it, I know about it, I'm the target age group, and I'm mature about it? Please, give me a half decent reason.

im 13 also, and i do get annoyed about 18-30's talking about how stupid the little children playing are. i only have 1 70, and I am annoyed how all guilds want a vent and say you have to be 18+. the game is rated teen. 13+.
I'm 53 female - I am a grandmother of 6. My oldest grandson, 16, also plays as do both his parents.
This may be a bit off topic, but i find it funny. I have a terrible habit of automatically expecting the characters that have a higher level than me to be older than me ie. if they have more experience in the game i expect them to have more life experience. Whenever a 70 says to me "g2g, my moms calling" i sit there stunned. Every time.

I'm 13..Yes a real shocker, I know. I agree with Roflroflpoot, this game was made for teens and yet adults think it was made more for them. I was in AV once(54 druid) and someone commented that "An hour ago we were creaming the horde in AV but now since the kids came back from school were losing." I was Pissed..But I said nothing(Yeah I know I'm so mature :P). My point is that most adults(no offence) think of us as little kids... And I think that is completely stupid...

Yeah. I am 15, nearly 16 so not too far from an adult, but once I asked a guild if I could join, The Avengers, or something like that I think. Anyway, they just asked me a few questions before I joined like will I act responsibly, will I apply the terms of Role-Playing (RP Realm) and I answered yes to them all. They invited me in and I started talking to them. The next day they asked where I worked, we were all in a big discussion about it, I told them I go to school. All of a sudden they begin laughing at me, and then they kicked me out. I asked the Leader, he said this guild is for responsible adults, not little children. No offence, cause I know not all Adults are like that, but I wish the ones that are would get a life and realise that some children ARE responsible. I wonder if any of them have kids...

Then there's probably a huge influx of 10 - 18 just after 4. I would venture go guess that the older people come on around dinner time or a little later. Thoughts?

Well i truely think the game should be played by anyone withen the game and by any age. Someone can just go to the shops and buy it and that why i think anyone would be playing the game at any age so it would be hard to find the normal age since there is probely 1person buying WoW every hour or somthing i dont know but that what i have to say.

I find it interesting that it is practically impossible to gauge someone's age in WoW. It does say a lot for a person's state of mind when you find mature players who are in their teens and childish idiots who turn out to be in their thirties or forties.
I'm 36, and I often find it a little weird when I have been talking to someone for a while, assuming that they are the same age, only to find out that they are half my age, but it is a pleasant surprise in an age where the media is full of negative images of youth. I think this kind of thing help foster an appreciation of people being people, rather than the categories they belong too.

I recently saw a graph on how many people played WoW over the past 24 hours. It peaked just after school ended (or was it around 7 pm, I can't remember).
Oh, and fun fact I found on that site. There are more Warriors than Hunters at 70.

What I find interesting is the fact that some young players find it amazing that older adults enjoy playing WOW. What you have to remember is that 20 years ago (before alot of you were born) we were playing multi-player online games that were all in text! Lets hear it for Tele-Arena. And you only got to die one time in those games, then you start you character all over.
Well back in the early to late 90's, I remember playing a BBS text game called Legend of the Red Dragon or LoRD to some (without "the" for some reason). Plus a lot of players who have played the original pen, paper, dice AD&D and D&D (as well as Mekton, Robotech, Mage, Vampires, Rifts, tabletop Warhammer, etc) also play WoW. I think the majority of WoW players are in their mid 20's to late 30's. Those who can afford multiple accounts would also be those in their mid 20's to late 30's.
The thing is, what you see online most of the time are 12 to 17 year olds - ones that aren't in university/college yet and those whom aren't in the work force, but I doubt they make up the majority.
