Doesn't offer much hope in our fight against warlocks, though ...

I struggled killing warlocks until I hit level 70. Along with BM Hunters, they were the last remaining class that I couldn't guarantee a win in a duel against, or 1v1 in a battleground.

Now, I can kill any lock in full s3 even though I am only full s1 and some s2 (i'm currently at 497 resil, 11.6k hp, 11k mana, +1394 healing +675 damage, disc spec, hybrid kit)

There are a few major factors in your fight against locks that you must always keep in mind:

* their inability to heal themself
* their reliance on dispellable DOTs
* their reliance on whichever stupid pet they are rocking
* their reliance on their usual ability to destroy any class in 1v1
* their inability to see it coming when you turn their own tactics upon them

How you ask? FEAR. As soon as you see the lock charge him like you are a warrior, get right up in his face and fear him. (Always ward yourself prior obviously) From this point you have the drop on him and are dotting him with things he CAN'T dispell, doing damage he CAN'T heal. Keep the pressure on him physically (close proximity) and out cast him. Its that simple.

Classes who are used to fighting with pets are always shocked by anything that gets in their face and doubly surprised by anything that puts a pet onto THEM so shadowfiend is your friend and will quite often knock any lock that is already taking dot damage and fears, off balance.

If the lock got the drop on you in the first place and is doing his fear and mana draining BS then you can turn your DOT damage and/or SF onto his pet while dispelling yourself and moving out of his casting range. Lock pets will generally die easily from a few dots, a shadowfiend on them and a SWD to top them off 10-12 seconds later. The loss of the pet puts the lock on the back foot but is usually unnecessary as ideally you will just keep the flow of damage on the lock himself constant and stay in his face fearing at every opportunity (mana burn can be another good trick if they are low hp it prevents them using lifetap to gain more mana, fear lock and pet + mana burn lock ftw)

IMO pretend you are a lock, in terms of strategy, (constantly fearing and dotting), and remember that nearly everything he puts on you can be dispelled and you should be fine.

Okay, if you have 497 resilience, of course you can knock a lock off who just sits back DoTs you and sends his pet.  The resilience makes his DoTs practically useless, and that's just a bad strategy on his part.  That's a Warlock who's PVPing like he would PVE.

Sure, if you can get the jump on him and get him feared and DoTed, you have a pretty good chance of beating him.  If he gets the jump on you, and he actually knows what he's doing, a SW:P is easily outpaced Drain Life.

And yes, they can heal themselves, with Drain Life.  The key point to remember about Warlocks is that they're mana inefficient, they tend to do steady damage over burst damage, and they need range (which is why they fear and have pets).  Thus, I do agree with getting in their face, and draining mana if you can.  Also, any decent Warlock will use the Fel Hound against you to drain your mana, and that isn't something you can just DoT and sic your Shadowfiend on, you need to do quick burst damage to it.  So, get in his face so you can fear both, and nuke his pet.
