As an edit to my previous commment in fact.. "At level 70, 22.1 spell critical strike rating increase the chance to critically hit with a spell by 1%." Meaning your looking at almost 3% Crit chance with those gems +this staff....

Lol this is so good it wont be outdated by greens in WotlK right away. blizzard already said that the leap wont be as big as from Pre TBC to TBC... but i recon it will be traded for a blue level 67ish :P

Familiarize yourself with the leap that occured when BC came out. Tier 3 epics were on par with level 70 blues. If that pattern holds then this staff will last until a level 80 epic. All we can do is randomly speculate

However, this is the ultimate leveling staff for WotLK, I would resocket all my yellows for +10 spell hit and and go kick ass in an empty level 73-75 zone they day it comes out xD. Only downside is Blizzard doesn't tailor questing to the over-geared:(

your best bet would be to socket with all +12 Spell damage gems.

Somehow I find it hard to believe that a mage with 600 crit rating and 400 bonus damage will lead all raids in DPS.

  I have less than my raidmates, yes, but that means i have 1200-1400 ish fully buffed and on crack. depending on groups, buffs and talents.
  my Frostbolts do 2100-2300 normal DMG (taking all buffs n debuffs into account) and i crit someplace between 4500 - 5200 averagely without popping cooldowns.
  if i pop those, it gets quite high, but thats just a 15 second wonder every 3 minutes then, so nevermind.

      Shiffar + Currents = +72 spellcrit AND awesome spd procs on crit. Geared mage can score like 42+ % spellcrit...

        Spell crit is more important for locks, since they get 100% increased dmg for a crit... mage with 1000 dmg, no crit - 1500dmg; lock with 750 dmg, high crit - 1500 dmg
        
        Diff classes, diff req, same results.
        
        EDIT: oh yeah, and me as a lock i have over 1k dmg and only 22% crit (almost); unlike the frost mage who thinks crit is better than dmg, i say that first you cap spell hit, then get over 1k dmg as mage or lock, and only after that you should worry about maxing out your spell crit.
        
        My damage output? funny, 2.3k on normal hits, 4.4k-4.7k on crits. as fire lock. Now, why do i have the feeling that this is very close to the spell crit frost mage's damage? hm?
        
        Oh - and this dmg is without any raid buffs, just sacced imp and fel armor.

well is it for a warrlock or a mage???

  Reign of Misery + Heart of the Pit is better for a Shadowpriest, and Sunflare + offhand will be much better than this once your guild down kil'Jaeden.

the best staff i've seen yet before WOTLK

Anything on how to GET the staff? All this is about what it looks like and cutting off your left arm and stuff for it.

so happy i got, make sure to gem it with 5 haste 6 dmg.

actually with 3x Reckless Pyrestone
it's better than Tempest of Chaos+Chronicles of Dark Secrets
in terms of all...spell dmg, spell hit, haster, stats, crit

only sunflare is a better choice
grats to those who actually got it

this staff like the one from neferion lasted me till 70 will last me untill level 80 at least.
Currently it is socketed with pure haste gems, giving me 30 haste, 49 crit, +50 hit +325 Damage (including soulfrost)
our MT's hate me soo much when I decied to go full nukage

the staff drops from Felmyst in SWP, which although not a hard boss requires good co-ordination and communication in the raid.

the tricky part for some guilds is getting past brutallus without people having a nervous breakdown
