So I'm lvl 42 and I can't handle hunters for the life of me.  My talent points are about half in aff and half in dest.  Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks.

theres a million thousand billion other locks who refuse to do this but im telling you that withought felguard or soul link your never gonna be able to beat a hunter unless you can use the void and sacrafice, theres a posibility you can seduce the hunter and fear the pet but it was easier for me when i was at your lvl to bubble and ignore the pet and nuke the hunter as hard as possible. i dont know why some stubborn locks wont fight withought using an imp or a felhunter when both are prety useless against a hunter. or rogue or warrior or druids depending on the spec. so anyway hope that helps. i used to kill hunters and they would always cry and tell me try doing it with no void walker. and you know what i would say try beating me withought a stupid lion slashing my ass to shreads =p

It only gets worse once they learn that 41-point in Beast Mastery. Fear Immunity for 18 seconds, soul link is pretty much it.

All I can advise is try to get the first move in, make good use of seduce/bandage, dot the pet up with siphon life if you have it for extra health and do your best.

Hunters, warriors and rogues are all designed to eat locks.  With an equally geared hunter all you can do is dot the hunter and his pet, while hiding behind trees and rocks and stuff.  Use death coil early on the hunter to get time to put dots up and just hide as they tick him to death... hopefully.

Can't really say the same as any of you. I'm 70 lock and have tried every spec except raid spec and when I see a hunter I first check his gear fast and in case he's full venge then I run XD but otherwise I can take them. I'm playing as sl/sl but I didn't have a problem as destro either. Aff just isn't for pvp. A hunter do the fast damage so either you have soul link and can survive it so that he dies before you do or u have better nuke (destro ftw)

You could go destruction and have backlash, a pet eating your ass=instant shadowbolts!

20% chance when struck in Melee to allow your next SB or Incinerate to be instant. This effect lasts 8 seconds, and can only occur once every 8 secs.

So if someone melees you (Arrows count too) then you get it.

Ok, as a hunter going against warlocks I can tell you a little hint. FEAR me before I hit beastial wrath (or sac the voidwalker and wait it out). Ignore the pet and go for me, kill me by Morse code (aka. lots of DOT's). Even as a BM-spec hunter, I still do more damage than my pet (and my pet can't remove beneficial magical effects from you *arcane shot*)
Another thing you can do if you really want to tick me off is seduce me, fear the pet and then kill it (I then am crippled and almost useless) then do the same to me, harder to do, but it ticks me off more because my pet then is not as happy. Hope that helps.

seriously though, the tips from the above poster sound great.

warriors = stance dance to be immune to fear. he's now in your face and you can only hope thatyour DoT will kill him after you're dead.

rogues = a good one will get you despite paranoia. you DC then fear, he trinkets and you're stunned until dead. if you manage to get CoEx on him and start DoTing on the run he CloS and all your defences are on cooldown.

everyone has a trinket and UD have WotF as well. fear used to be a totally imba skill but if someone allows you to control the fight by using fear then they're not a good player.

Warriors can be immune to fear for 50 seconds (more if you blow long CDs, but let's not include that)

Berserker Rage - 10s
Deathwish - 30s
Berserker Rage (cooled down already) - 10s

ps: You can actually use these abilities while feared, to break it.

i DoT the hunters pet till it dies..i don't really care bout the hunter..YET.. But after the pet dies....HOPEFULLLY..then i fear the hunters ass and DoT him like nothing..if i have low health, i use potions or use my healthstone. If i have my ss on me..yes..IF i die..IF...then i use the ss and freaking kill him when he's EATING. (since the hunters armor isn't really much use against a caster..u SHOULD be able to kill him.)

Oh..BTW..and u should drain the hunters mana. That'll make him suffer. :D

You do know you can DoT 2 people at once, right?

And you do know that in the time your DoTs kill the pet you will be nearly dead, right?

And you do know that they can rez their pet really fast (trap you first) right?

And you do know they can become immune to fear (well if they're BM spec) right?

EDIT: I highly doubt a staggering 200 mana per second drained will make any impact because 1) he can autoshot 2) he has a pet 3) he is causing pushback making YOU lose mana too.

first of all if you waste one second lookign at the pet you don't deserve to do pvp.

if you get soul link and use felguard the fight is much easier. I prefer fel armor to demon armor in this fight. intercept the hunter and throw fear while he is stunned. throw all your dots and spam drain life. if you have the afflic talent you have a 72% chance to not get interrupted by his pet. make sure your dots are on him the whole time.  if you can get close enough to him so he can use his bow it is helpful. Basically you want to do as much damage to him as you can. you and your felguard should take him out easily. plus your drain life gets a nice buff from fel armor.

Fel Armor is good....until the Hunter dispells it automatically with his Autoshot. Oh well....

Be careful, because they can Feign Death and de-aggro your pet. If you are FG spec then make sure he's trying to kill the Hunter, and not standing next to you.

EDIT: Red pet means no Fear. but you can still Deathcoil. Doesn't do much though, since it's not like you can kite a Hunter.

Locks are nerfed to death. There are so many ways to beat a lock. I have both A lock and BM lvl 70 hunter. I've never killed an equally geared BM hunter w/ my lock. You see a hunter run. Same w/ rouge. By the time you see him its too late. They pop the trinket and stun lock you to death. I know you CAN beat them but i've had MUCH better luck using my shadow priest against them then my lock. Succ? anyone use then in day to day questing? LOL Maybe in a bg they be helpful. Only thing you can hope is SEE the hunter 1`st then fear him to death while the dots work..I know i'm gonna get flamed but either I suk at ALL my chars or they are that good. sorry.

I have 70 lock...pretty well geared...i pvp alot and throughout my time playing the 9/41/11 lock whick ppl criticize is not as good as sl/sl lol its better if you know how to play it.Anyways killin a hunter fear pet,dc him,dot him up,SEARING PAIN no matter what spec its the fastest way to do quick dmg to the hunter.hope this helps other locks!WARLOCK FTW!!!!

don't worry about not being sl/sl specced. some of the best pvp locks i know are FG spec. sl/sl is a survivability spec and can be very boring because of the lack of damage you dish out.
that's not to say that sl/sl isn't the 'best' spec for arenas. it probably is but people shouldn't feel they have to spec that way.

I have a 70 sm/sl loc and a 59 FG loc. One on one this will be a tougher fight now, but very possible. The key changes that affects locs are the armor dispel and the reduction of the dead zone.

Put your armor on your action bar and get used to recasting.

Single key macro your instant cast dots, order them so they time out about the same time, so long duration dots first.

If you surprise the guy hit him with an SB or soul fire 1st, dont use D/C or dots right away, get that extra damage in.

If he catches you by surprise death coil, demo sac, dot(s), fel dom a voidy and sac it. Spam SP and DL. And stay away from him, being close to a hunter now serves no purpose.

Oh and if it looks like your gonna win, go ahead and kill his pet 1st, they really like it...

Whenever i come across a hunter, and must face him, i dot his pet and  spam SB or immolate/incinerate that pet as much as i can. Im gonna die anyway, and if i can make his pet unhappy and make his pet potentially run off, then thats a good tradeoff for me

im a 63 lock and pwn hunters first of all you need felguard. deathcoil the hunter at the start and then dot them. while they are running around randomly getem with your felguard then use shadowburn and searing pain spells.

well.. here's mine

the previous poster's build is ok. i would suggest moving the 2 from imp healthstones to health funnel (your FG will need the heals) and move the point from demonic resilience into mana-feed (he ooms quick).
where the rest of your points go depends on what you're doing. as this is a pvp thread you're going to want instant corruption. if you were to do PVE with your FG you'd want to fill up destro and leave aff alone.

I play a 7-4-50 lock, and manage to own most hunters just out of pure damage output. The trick to the build is the clear-cast proc, which can really eat almost anything save for rogues alive.

The other bonus to the build is the lack of lengthy damage-over-time. I know thats where alot of the fun to the warlock comes in, but nuke-for-nuke I can match if not outdamage a hunter pretty easily.

The extra stamina seriously comes in handy, as well!!

its not simple, but the explenation is, stay in a hunters blind spot, fear, get the dots up, get close so he cant use bow, but not so close that he can use sword/axe or what ever he happens to use
i have a 70 hunter as my main and a lock (also mage and rogue but dont bother with them much) and it really annoys me when that happens, but make note of his name and when you see him again run for the hills as he`ll remember how you beat him and more then likely be looking for some pay back.......the only other way i can think of as it happens to me often in battles, stay back, wait till the hunter is in a fight and dot dot dot him he either dies from who he is fighting or from you, but thats cowardly and when it happens i often make it my mission to pay him back 10fold

hunters don't have the dead spot. it got patched out quite a while ago... as a hunter you should really know that.

Well if the hunter is BM ,the pet needs to be killed,fear,cc,kited,something..first before u can deal with the hunter <try and LOS him and dot him while ,your running away .> IF he is MM ,he is EZ mode for a lock .. DEATHCOIL, hopefully he trinkets out , then FEAR ,dots ,shadow bolt,fear GG,LOL. TEA B*G . optional .

if the hunter is bm your pretty much screwed completely if he uses the beast within if that happens i use curse of exhaustion and run away(im affliction) if facing a hunter without the beast within i use curse of weakness on the pet(really helps take the damage away) dot him up death coil him and howl of terror his pet and run away. It aint brave or pretty but it works.

i figure the bet way to help yalls out is to give you a look into the mind of a mid-level hunter. to start off the fight i am going to lay down frost trap for the minion and viper sting u.

the rest of the fight is going to be spent mostly kitting your minion while my pet attack u. besides keeping up viper i won't be worried much about you, only putting down any real damage on u myself if the minion is frost traped or dead. also be ready for intimidation+beastal wrath (aka the "I-Win" button) at any time during the battle, espcaly if you are low on health.

Hmmm as a hunter u should know that blind spot has been patched... i wounder if u have a hunter at all...
