Haing read a few comments about FG spec in raids I thought I would add a message.

I *sigh* a bit when i see people write that an MD lock is not applicable for pve.

In fact for those who aren't running around in full tier 6 or equivalent gear the MD spec is amongst the best, as long as you learn to play and have a good guild to back you up.

I am in a BT/MH clearing guild and have been FG/MD spec since I started raiding again mainly because my gear was a step behind the rest of the lock team.

I now have 3 pieces of BT gear (no T6) and 2 pieces of T5 (which is essential for FG in raids tbh unless you have your own pet healer), the rest of my gear is amongst the best you can craft, grind 5 man heroics, use badges for or get from TK/SSC. It must be said that my leggings are crap -trial fire leggings don't look great when you kill Illidan :P

My current raid +spell damage is +1700 fully buffed, this doesn't include the silent +damage buff your chosen pet (sacced or not sacced) gives you. My current crit is around 22% and I have around +170ish hit which is low but not worth working on until some better gear drops for me.

I average around 5k crits for shadow bolt and around the 3k +/- 500ish non crit.

If my guild puts me in a group with a resto shammie, 2 hunters and a shad priest I am a happy bunny...but tbh almost every buff group I go in either enhances me or my demon.

Look on your felguard as a cast once permanent dot, that is constantly hitting for 350 damage every 2 seconds and 1k plus whenever cleave cd goes. He is low aggro and is like an energiser bunny as he is being fed hp off of your T5 set bonus and mana from your life taps (1 point in that ftw).

Obviously felguard is not ideal for all situations, cleave is a pain sometimes when sheeps are about, and sometimes T5 or shad priest is not enough to stop him dieing. But you can always sac him for the nice buff you get in this sort of situation.

I find that felguard has taught me to play more intelligently and to be honest his charge has saved mine or another of my raiding parties lives on many an occasion when aggro has been gained.

I would post the wws logs of my guild raids to give a bit of evidence to my account but tbh we get enough random whisper asking for help for various bosses.
I normally top the damage in MH where felguard/md sac and lock aoe reigns supreme. On certain fights in BT I have the edge as well, against Reliquary of Souls the FG is excellent especially in phase 2....against Bloodboil an MD lock with imp out can go almost full out/full time  while every other caster has to watch the aggro meters very carefully - there are times when the greatly reduced aggro given by imp and salvation are very handy (although lock tanking requires a double lock group for the md lock to get imp buff).

Anyway the whole point of this post is to try to encourage you to hold the faith with felguard spec. Until your gear is hit capped and nearing the +1500 spell damage point destruction is a bit of a waste, likewise aff is bloody hard work (although you need at least one full aff lock for great raid buffs) aff is also not always appropriate. If it all goes down in a progress fight you don't want your mages to be perma-sheeping a dotte mob because the aff lock has gone bonkers with his tab button trying to top the damage meters.

Felguard spec offers a bit of everything to all, its a solid pvp build...although not as solid as the *yawn* sl/sl build ofc. In pve it offers some interest and the chance to buff your own dps output considerably. A guild hiearchy that tells a lock to re-spec to an aff/destro build for dps purposes is short-sighted as imo considerable experience its a great stepping stone to the end game. Priests stopped just being healers when tbc came out, locks stopped only being an imp placer in raids at the same time.

Enjoy

If someone showed up to a raid with less then their max dps spec as a dpser without being utility (token embrace/imp) we would replace them with a mage.

Fun factor is greatly reduced when you can't beat new content.

Felguard spec is also greatly dependent on having the Voidstar Talisman, 2 pc t5, and fights that don't involve a lot of raid-wide damage.

You listed fights where it is useful.  Now list fights where the felguard won't survive.  How much less damage do you do in those fights then someone specced 0/21/40?

It may be fun to do... but Felguard spec is for your guilds farm content not pushing new content.
