I recently tameed a Humar Pridelord in the barrens with a Lvl 23 Night Elf.  I've since taken him back to Astrannar and completing quests and killing beasts.  I continue to get exp but my pet is not.  He's still lvl 23 and his exp bar is not filling.  It's still on 0 (zero).  Is this a glitch or am I missing something??

Thanks for the help

Your pet doesnt lvl up at the same lvl as you. He will lvl after you reach 24.

This is something a lot of hunters miss (at the start anyways) A pet can never be above your level, that is why you will find you can not tame a pet of a higher level, then your self. i.e. you as L23 could not have a L25 pet. you can only tame down.
So that in mind hunter L23 with pet L23 the pet will not gain any XP in that level untill you level to L24 then the pet will start to gain EX. Hope this clears things up :)

new to WoW- been playin two months got a lvl62 Hunter and a cat with prowl as an optional spec: wondering what is best for spec of pet in general? I noticed they don't level until after I reach the level and only gain so much TP each time, but how do I get the higher staminas and resistance? And if I don't get the higher specs, is there a "good" (I know it varies depending on type of damage being taken) way to spec my pet to optimize my pet's ability?

Make sure when you go to the hunter trainer for your training, you also stop at the pet trainer.  That is where you get the next levels of resistances, armor, stamina etc for your pet.

When you go to pet trainer if your going to pvp a lot then get the armor and stam boosts and dont bother with the resists..as you get higher lvl those resists dont mean as much..your pets going to be your (tank)....if your going pve mostly consider the resists that you will need against the MU mobs your going to farm..like you wont need much nature resist as your going to get this as a skill to party buff. Depending on your pet consider your skill tree...for instance as a BM hunter one skill is pet faster focus recharge..this skill is mostly underrated by folks until they understand it..this lets your pet get its power bar charged faster so he can throw in those pet unique attacks more ofter..those skills like "claw" for cat types (bite, gore, swoop etc. for other types) this is referred to as a "focus sink" it burns his focus up but increases his DPS.

Oh..and if you "screw up" (no suck thing actually :)) you can alwasy unlearn and respec your pet as you feel..dont be afraid to experiment..there is no "wrong way"
