Hi I'm still fairly new to the game and am building my first paly. I wont to be doing pvp with this one and so have opted for RET after reading up on here.

Problem is after reading almost every post on here about RET paly's I've still to find what kind of weapon is best. Alot of paly's ive seen use shields but if i'm right a RET paly is about dps and so should i have a 2H weapon??

Definately a 2h weapon, yes

Use a 2 handed weapon with the slowest speed you can find.  This slow speed works better with Ret tree talents in many ways but especially Seal of Command will proc more efficiently. 

Primary magic bonuses desired on the weapon are +hit rating, +strength, and +attack power.

yes if u wanna go ret, u must find the best TWOHAND wep... theres no such thing as a 1h shield ret >.<

As far as what is the better wep... u want something slow (3.5+) so that the dmg range is larger and the SoC proc %'s on a per swing basis is higher.

As far as stats on the wep or on gear in general, this depends on whether u wanna pvp or pve. If ur intention is to pvp, go get STR, AP, Crit and fill in int/mana dependin on how fast u use them. If u wanna pve, u want STR, AP, +hit, +crit and again, int/mana depending on mana usage.

Lastly, with pvp, it is highly recommended that u grind urself to death to pick up the S1 gear. Since the last patch, the addition of resilience makes it very nice as a starter set. W/o resil, u will not make it far in pvp.

and realy if u plan on sticking with this char and u dont have an anoying amount of rw friends or a realy set up guild go blood elf  seal of blood makes seal of comand look like a bad godzilla flick (aka all godzilla flicks) btw yes 2h is the best
