I've done my fair share of reading any topic I could find related to weapons, and none have centered on enchantments.

Is it true that spell/heal dmg enchants on any item help a Pally's melee/attacking?

Whether it is true or not, would you please suggest some enchantments for a Prot Pally at Lvl 40.  And if you would be kind enough for others that may come looking, perhaps discuss different enchants for Holy and Ret Pallys...

Yeah.. spell dmg adds to your judgements and other holy spells so it helps to pump up your speel dmg as much as u can. Holy Shockadins are pretty badass.

Holy - Healadin -> +81 healing
Holy - Shockadin -> +40 SD
Prot - Tankadin -> +40 SD
Ret - Retadin -> Depends

RET:

- Savagery gives u a more constant gain in dmg
- Mongoose is nice but the proc chance is too low to be that helpful and when it does proc, the 120 agil is nothing but about a 5% increase in crit chance.
- Executioner is the "end game" enchant. Once u collect enough ignore armor gear, you should get this. It does proc often enough to be that worth while but when it does, this combined with other ignore armor gear will make a clothy a no armor dummy to beat on.

So depending on gear, take ur pick. The more common answer would be to take the 70 AP.

Personally my choices would be the same except that, depending on the gear your have on, may want to consider getting +30 Intellect. The additional 450 mana could make all the difference. Its what I got on my heal/shockadin hybrid :P.
