at low levels yes cos ur squishy and have little armor,skills and health. but at lvl 40 i can kill mobs before they reach me.
only suck thing is waiting for mana to refill till u can carry on. just have patience.

in pvp i LOVE fire

use to be frost and nevfer thought of going fire but seriously man polymorph+pyroblast= megan kick ass sooo much dps and i love it! 36 kills in one warsong match thats reaaaaaly high for me

but you gotta know your class be good with the counter spell though ; ) its gunna be your baby

only because ur low fire is pvp...

at frost,

60% crit chance on frozen targets
124 mana for ice lance, instant cast 1.6k crit

frost is THE pvp spec once you hit 70

arcane/fire for raids

many people think fire is pve but i like frost more...



and mages pwn, me = 60hk, 160k damge, 3 deaths, 23KB in WSG

i say arcane is the best especaly if ur a gnome i mean i have
6000+ mana....

mages do not suck they are teh best range spell classes you can have and they pwn in raids and battle grounds

Hey as a 70 (FIRE) mage i can get 200+ kills in a 2.4 AV match.    So ill let you figure it out, do mages suck?  The answer is no.  Just know what the hell your doing and realize this is one of the hardest classes to play.  Also imo frost = the easy way out. 

You just have to use a mage properly, stick to your conjured stuff and love your fireballs and instants.

BUT....you have to know what your doing when you PVP or else you get completely shat on. Good PVP mages are reeal scary...awsome mage on our realm in arena: his 2 teamates died so he took on 3 people and pwned them all...real fast

no I am a frost specc'd be mage lvl 25 atm. I out dps people 3 to 4 lvls higher than me. I love thAT. I wouldn't trade my mage in for anything. Also I was a lvl 24 and was looking for a group for an instance forgot which one. But I was the lowest lvl in the group all the others where orange and red lvls. I was afraid that I wouldn't be much help but I opened my damage meter and was watching it and I was in 2nd place for dps. I was so happy. So I guess we are really great in groups...

PvE mages do enormous DPS, generally pulling agro which is bad. Although a decent mage shouldnt be as hes normally keeping a mob CCed as well. 42 Fire mage atm, scorch build, takes alittle longer to kill a mob but less then a third of the downtime! :D
PvP, mages are powerful but unless you have ice lance (64?), your instants are kinda limiting and you obviously do not wanna stand still for too long! Planning on turning him into a 60 twink using a PoM-pyro build, hard to pull off at 60 but capable of 2shotting anything with CDs available :) (Number crunching showed 5-10k of damage in 2 shots!)

Just avoid Hunters in PvP, you havent much hope. Only the very best PvP mages can go 1on1 and a chance to win (equally geared), even against a fairly poor hunter. My main is one and mages are just so easy to kill I generally come off with 80-90% HP/mana within 10-12s (mostly due to Iceblock). :( Huge counterclass gap.

but then again if ur saying a n00by comment like that i guess you cant have, probs too low :P
also, at lvl 70 mages have very high health, around 9k is average ^^

mages really don't suck.

i'm a lvl 70, used to be frost mage, awesome at grinding, great at pvp and a nice DPS to boot, usually 1st/2nd on the dmg meter.

went PoM pyro, was usually 2nd/3rd on dmg meters on trash, but on a boss i would do alot more dmg than the others(on trash, there isnt enough time to get 5scorches then do some fireballs+pyro's) would also get alot of kill's in BG's, didnt bother wasting time in arena as pyro though, it just really doesnt work.


now im all out fire, with a bit of arcane, and elemental precision from the frost talents specifically for raiding and this also rocks, yesterday i came out top on the dps in a kara trip :) it's also fairly good in pvp, thanks to the 2 new instants, one that dazes them, and the other disorientating them for 3 secs, gives time to get a scorch or maybe even a fireball in without being hit.


so over-all, yeah, mages rock, plus, you will ALWAYS get a team easy at lvl 70, everyone loves your table, polymorph, and portal to shatrah;)
