I did this quest 2 times.  First time as usual I didn't read the description and timer on the item expired :)  Then I noticed a note that the thing "should be fresh".  So I had to do it again.  But in both cases it took me no more then 10 spiders to get the item.  Guess it's just a matter of luck.
