sum1 plz comment b4 i die of old age!!!
It's really up to what you prefer, with frost you can have 150% crit bonus, but the non crits won't be nearly as high as arcane fire, give em both a shot and see what you think.
I prefer frost as I tend to die less, sure it may take slightly longer to kill the mobs but i dont die and if some sneek up on me or I back into some by accident I still have enough mana to take them out to. But it is upto you as to which youll be happier playing.
I leveled fire, then switched to frost at 51. I prefer frost, but I'm glad I started out fire, because I think it made me a better mage, as it it a little harder IMO. leveling as frost after that was almost too easy. You really need to try them both out and make your own decision.
Go frost it way bettar!
frost is lvling and pvp fires pve dps arcane is raid dps
frost is lvling and pvp, fire's pve dps, arcane is raid dps. Punctuated for clarification
Go look at this:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Mage_builds A very good approach on Mage talents. Also, you may watch this movie about mage AoE grinding: "In Frost We Trust"
this is a good overall damage + incr./impr. talent build that i use on my now lvl 70 fire mage

use frost 2 lvl 20, then fire to lvl 50, than you change to arcane fire to lvl 70!
Ive played frost since ever and i love it but i wanna try fire i roll the dps with frost i havnt tried fire so i really dont know
Well that all depends on how you want to play.
The short version is: Frost= PvP and PvE Power Leveling. Fire= PvE dungeons and steady Leveling (absolute wost PvP spec in the game). Arcane= Great secondary spec when leveling, once you start doing endgame stuff and getting 1337 purple gear this becomes THE damage spec.
So i've bin playing as frost mage wiv sum talent points in arcane (2) and have found this build 2b working very well for me its easy 2 lvl and stay alive i can out dps fire mages and generally live longer than arcane mages. Im lvl 46 atm will most likely end up switchin 2 arcane for endgame.
i go with fire becaues pyroblast it may take long but it can somtimes kill ur enemy in 1 shot
I went on fire, where u learn spells like pyroblast and flame wave, and those spells are sooo powerful :=)
Prob a bit late for this but i lvled my mage frost all the way up to 70 and stuck with frost as soon as i got some epic gear i went to arcane fire 41*20 somethign like good mana regan and stil lhave the ablity from fire to use pryoblast and with arcane in there you get a instance cast every 3 min so every 3 min instant pryo blast 8k dmg :) It was hard to use the arance fire spec out side of raids for awhile but once u get use it, it does great. As of going all fire i found ok for pvp but going all fire all it is just more cricts... Arcane/fire More Dmg by far.
i have been a fire mage and i didn't like it I only got him to lvl 20 then deleated him. I decided to make a new mage BE and I am specced frost and I love it I out DPSed a pally that was 3lvl's higher. I was happy about that but I noticed that I don't die nearly as much as I did as a fire mage. I am putting all my points in frost and maybe arcane we'll see. I am lvl 18 atm. But I love my frost mage. I start off casting a frostbolt then a firebolt and frost nova them and shoot off arcane missles and either arcane blast or I use my want to finish them off... it works for me so I am sticking with it...
Go Frost for raids, the survivability is amazing not to mention the passive 15% crit on ur frost bolt through talents, and the fact that frost hit cap is 127 almost 40 points lower than fire...that being said i hate fire mages for the most part their damage does scale well but its hardly the best spec "dead mages do no nuking" after much testing i have found that for SKILLED mages 40-0-21 is extremely useful and the highest damage output without a doubt. in arcane you will NOT get any talents that improve arcane missiles and in frost focus on imp frostbolt ice shards piercing ice etc. the goal of this spec is arcane blast and do it as much as possible, while casting in this spec i have 400mp5 without socketing for it or enchanting for regen thats just simply raid buffed stats. this means with a shadow priest or totems u can up ur dps considerably without having to cast as many frostbolts, but that wont always happen....sadly :-(. all in all try this spec arcane power+icy veins+damage trinket+pom frostbolt+ frostbolt spam during arcane power its incredibly high damage but it takes skill to be able to judge the boss fight and weave frostbolts to conserve mana but keep the arcane blasts up and running. oh and ya, i forgot to say...only noob mages go oom! if u find yourself going oom in any spec just forget that you read this and go run kara some more :-) you will get there.
