Been surfing the net trying to gather all the info on what the best spell rotation would be for a raiding boomkin. so far ive come up with IS>MF>SF>WRATH>WRATH>WRATH>WRATH repeat for mobs, and IS>MF>SF>SF>SF repeat for bosses. Any other advice or input by anyone else on the subject?

I can get more damage out by chaining Wrath than by repeating Starfire. In the 3 seconds it takes to cast Starfire, I could have launched 3 Wraths, that do about half the damage each, so in the end I do 1.5 damage with 3 Wraths over 1 Starfire, more than that if I crit a lot.
Otherwise, make sure you cast Moonfire and Insect Swarm when the DoT's about to wear out to keep that damage up and things tend to die pretty quick.
Gotta think about mana efficiency though, from all the charts ive seen in the long run SF is much more mana efficient than wrath in terms of damage-per unit of mana used. wrath is a huge mana drainer. for mobs spam wrath all the way, but for bosses i still just rotate insect swarm moonfire and starfire. open to suggestions though
I like to hit mobs with sf and can usually hit them again before they can reach me. If the stun I hit them again w/SF then MF, wraith until dead. For bigger mobs i might root them. I am at level 54 and level 52-55 mobs usually die with 2 SF crits. I never picked up the Insect swarm...did not look that great. I am glad I did not .. at 55 I will have enough talent points to get the treants spell!
You'll want to pick that up haha, one of the best raid spells you'll have. helps the tanks mitigation a ton.
Like many other druids that run Kara, I have the set bonus from both my T4 gloves and helm (the one that has a chance to restore mana on spellcast).Let's do the math to find out how much mana I am spending in three seconds which is one starfire or two wraths:
For the sake of probability lets up the chance to restore mana on spellcast up to 100%. Two Wraths is 510 mana/3 sec- 240 mana given back from two of the spellcasts which is an overall mana usage of 270 mana/3 sec if I am casting straight Wraths. If you do the math for Starfire mana usage it comes out to be 370 mana for one starfire - 120 mana given back from one spellcast proc = 250 mana/3 sec if i am casting straight Starfires. This all means that even if you have the set bonus to restore mana it is still more efficient to cast all Starfires then to cast all Wraths but by only 20 mana/3 sec.
I dint have moonkin form but I do have a pretty good spell rotation if you plan on only using spells
For PvE: Charge and hit with a MF from as far range as you can (nature's reach adds a huge advantage to this) then as they come towards you use FF IS MF (best to use FF first so they take more damage from MF and IS) then (you should probably have a really good weapon for this) use your weapon to pound them dead while recasting spells that wear out. This technique is extremely mana efficient as long as you dont have to heal yourself too much, which tends to leave you little mana afterwards. PvP: entangle the enemy, get as far away as you can while still being able to hit them (once again natures reach comes in handy) cast FF MF IS then moonfire them. If the enemy has range you can always step out of their range and heal yourself, then get back to fighting. NOTICE: The most important aspect of this plan is to make sure the enamy is entangled for the whole time, up untill you run out of mana. As this strategy in not the most mana efficient you will inevitably run out of mana at one point or another, your goal though, is to make sure that they have little enough health at this time that you can simply use your weapon, or bear morph (if you have enough mana) to kill them PvP: entangle the enemy, get as far away as you can while still being able to hit them (once again natures reach comes in handy) cast FF MF IS then moonfire them. first off u need to get your badge idol .. the spell dmg on moonfire one thats key
secondly four peice pvp set bonus is god for dps... a must have i always start a fight with starfire casting while spamming moonfire button so they hit at the same time.. if im lucky i get a crit and my idol to proc off moonfire, then i start wrathing.. when my fourpeice pvp set bonus procs ill immediatly start a starfire cast again followed immediatly after buy moonfire.. so with this gear set up i have i can rotate all my procs and what not to always have them coming in.. and buy doing so i push regularly around 1700 dps in five mans.. this sucks for the tank mind u but if he cant out threat u he shouldnt be tanking for u in the first place... a great moonkin has alot of GOOD tanks on his freinds list lol... hope this helps
I have posted on this subject a few times already. I am a midgame raider in SSC and the Eye. I have about 1000 spell dam unbuffed with just about 11000 mana and almost 10k health. Personally, i try and stack MP5 more then spell dam because as moonkins we run out of mana and are told to intervate a healer and not use it for ourselves which i think is wrong. Mages have Evocate and Priest have a shadow fiend, intervate is for use.
Still, with my MP5, i can be one of the top on the damage meters with the rotation of IS, MF, WR, WR, WR, WR repeat. To lower my threat i use starfire which, while doing so, helps me get back mana. Wrath is mana intensive yes, but at a crit of 2800-3000 a pop and the ablity to cast it 3 times in the time it takes to do one 5k Starfire crit, it is worth it. Work on MP5, Spell hit, then dam. Now this rotation is not for soloing. Yes, rooting is great for mobs OUTSIDE!!! so i u want to raid learn to spam wrath. it will be ur best friend on the dam meters, and ur worse enemy on the threat meters. :-) -Codefreak -Anetheron Add Comment
