I havent an answer for your question, i have rather a simple question of my own. My alli paladin, bril, also on windrunner, has never used a shield. i respecced my talents for shields, etc (protection), but the shields are red to me, as unusable. Am i missing something? do i have to "learn" this ability? No one i know can tell me, which is how i wound up here. I saw your message had just been posted today, thought maybe i'd get a reply soon. Thanks in advance! I am an old noob i guess, lol
need to do lots of heroics sha ta rep sheild cot legs aldor chest are good places to start
I do not remember for sure but one way to get shield ability is go to all weapon trainers and learn what you can. Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus and if you have Burning Crusade Exodar. I am not sure if Exodar has anything different but doesn't hurt to try. My Paladin is a Dranie. If you want mail me in game on Windrunner.

is a great entry set for entry level tanking (legs, gloves, helm).
As a pally tank, the contiuum blade http://thottbot.com/i29185 or seeker's gavel http://thottbot.com/i34670 rocks. For warriors, the crystalblade of the draenei is cheap http://thottbot.com/i31234.
There are also some good quest reward items, too. Do a search of plate quest rewards with +def and you'll get some good stuff.
pallie tanks at 70 felsteel set aldor rep for chest as soon as possable hard i know crystal forged sword found on ah pallie tanks need spell damage thier threat is yellow damage not white or the pvp mace which is what i use and the 40 spell damage enchant 490 defense is key and then stack as much stam as you can need to live thru the hits and have enough aggro to keep mobs on you and let group kill it i think i used the adamantite bp and khorium boots for a while and shan tari wroght bracer plus 15 defense enchant but geting to 490 defense is key uncrittable for kara then the gear with come i think i was told 490 def 10.5 k health and 11 k armor to get into kara and do the first 3 or 4 bosses tank or off tank off tank prolly alot farther and with in 2 runs of kara i had 500 defense 12.5 k health and 14.7 k armor and over 300 spell damage and still need gear
