Im a level 50 Enhancement Shaman. I choose engineer because my buddy said it would be the best for my class. So far the only thing it does for me is a grenade to toss every now and then in PvP and a bomb to drop so I can heal in PvE.

Is there a light at the end of this tunnel?

Engineering is pretty lame like that up until around 350.  Then you will be able to farm motes and make your own epic headgear.  I was getting down on it too at one point, but now my little gnome engineer/miner alt has more gold than my main.  Stick with it, it will eventually pay off, but you do have to make a bunch of crap that doesn't sell in order to get there.
