ok i no this hasnt happened to every one and i really hope it never does
ive been farming the mats for mongoose for my merciless blades and last nite i finally got them together

x20 large prismatic's
x80 arcane dust
x12 void crystals
x16 greater planar essence
about 1400g's worth on my server maybe a little more

was advertising like we all do LF enchanter to do ... will pay tip..
didnt have much response about 10mins passed and i got a whisp
"i can do it for you" jumping for joy i invited him to the group and we met up he linked mongoose just to check that is what i asked for . a 60g tip i offered 30 for each blade .
the trade went on i handed the mats over completed the trade. i then opened up a new trade window to get the enchants the window was closed ... " 1 mo he said " so i thought nothing of it . he then ran to the mail box .. gone....

he posted my mats to a alt and logged 1400g worth of mats gone in a matter of seconds ..

I then shout out in sw just to let people no that there is a enchanting thief and just to beware i got several whispers seconds later all with the same thing a lvl 70 Ne hunter edit post later with a name as its not the 1st time he has done it . and probally wont be the last

i then opened a gm ticket who got in contact with me after 5mins but then had to escalate the ticket . nearly 5 hours later the problem was sorted and the mats where returned. happy as i was the time was 2.37am (uk) it all started about 9pm

so if you are ever unsure about a enchanter that approaches you saying they can do the ench use the armory or something just to check that he has what they claim to have. or stick to guild members or close freinds

What's the name of the toon, so others from the same server on the same side can avoid such a person.

linking something ingame is NOT the way to make sure someone can or can not create/enchant something.

sorry that you had to find this out the hard way.

best thing to do is to check the armory, like you mentioned later on.

another thing which helps with a unknown person and a trade that can not be completed in one go is a downpayment... to trade the mats for a bit less than auction house value or at least a substantial amount of gold (in other words then your not giving them the mats for free should they decide to run away, and its a good indication that both parties are serious about the transaction). when the trade window is opened to do the enchant/final product/whatever of course give that cash back with a tip.

only trouble is that a lot of people might not have the cash at hand for really big trades where the mats are +1000g.

oh and blizzard has a policy about naming and shaming character names on their forum, im not sure about the policy thottbot handles about putting up character names

Also I would add that having the ability to craft something is no guarantee that you're not a thief.

My priest is a 380 JC.

I have had people asking me to create a Meta gem for them, and they actually gave me the Skyfire or Earthstorm diamond via the trade window (around 100g value in our server).

I of course gave them back the created Meta gem, but I suppose they must have felt some uneasiness about it.

I would suggest to blizzard that people could mark a whole set of mats as "not to be traded" but still usable by another enchanter or Jewelcrafter, etc. Maybe create a different window: instead of using "Trade", use something called "Craft", for example.

true, but someone that can not create it in the first place should make a few bells ring

I agree on your comment, but its not going to happen a lot i guess.

typically a scammer will not level to 70, wear a full epic suit etcetcetc... but its still a option yeh
