I have noticed recently that gold spammers have turned to "whispering" directly to players. No doubt to avoid being missed by those who leave channels /1 and /2.

I suppose I could use the /dnd command to avoid being whispered to. But then neither can my friends talk to me.

Now, I consider myself a peaceful person, but I confess to having murderous thoughts every time I see one of these new "whisperings".

Is there an addon that will only allow certain people to whisper to you, such as guildies, or those in the "friends" list ?

Please tell me there is. Please. Please. Please.

@#%$ing gold spammers !!

As far as I know the best thing you can do is report the whispered spam.

This will make it so that during your play session whispers from them are ignored and they, in theory, get reported.

Never heard of a addon for whispers.
Hope I am wrong for all of our sakes.

I wish there were one. I get whispered at least once every couple minutes, and whenever they whisper you they feel the need to spam it 5 or 6 times, i wish that they could be somewhat curtious and just do it once. Blizz needs to figure out a way to stop the constant whispers, like rather than an ignore list, a list you could put people on, and you will not recieve any whispers except from them. Or disallow any level 1s-5s to whisper anyone, making the goldspammers have to level a bit, which would probably cause them to stop. Just do something blizz..

Simple Solution would be to restrict any lvl 5-10 character or lower from the use of /tell, once again pain in the arse factor would be that once again everyone doing the right thing would lose out yet again, because of a minority.
However, you'd think a multi Million dollar company, (if it really wanted to) could quite simply design a program that could ban certain IP. Adresses from using WoW servers...
Problem with all of these Suggestions, Blizzard would lose quite number of Paying customers if they were to ban Gold Spammers, this in my Mind is the Real sucky thing.

My advice, simply learn to cope with it all, most of us already deal with Server Crashes, Lag spikes, Glitches.. etc
whats a pain in the arse Gold Spammer /tell you, gonna make a diff.

banning IP addresses is pointless, getting a new one takes less then a second. it is annyoing, but really, i just ignore it, actually, sometimes ill have a conversation with them, its kinda entertaining when your grinding and your bored.

Simple Solution would be

unfortunatelly .. its even simpler
wow has a ads-filter since some 2.x patch

plus they introduced the report player feature

however this is clearly broken at the moment

the most simple sollution is - if blizz would just update the damn filter daily (partly automatically by using the text the reported spammers use)

its so freaking simple ...
*ill stop now before i rant and get angry
*sigh*

I try to make a game out of Gold Spammers /whispering me.  Whenever they say something like "29.99/1000 gold sign up today", I'll say something back like "No fricken way man, sign me up today!!"  For some reason they never /r me back =(.  Damn Gold Spammers never want to have any fun.

I'm pretty sure replying to them makes no difference.  They just want to get their site advertized.  I used to tell them that there is a special place in hell for whisper spammers, but I'm sure they don't get the message, and just crank through their player list.

Bliz should make a rapid response whisper reporting system.  R click, report spam.  If a user gets 10+ reports w/in 24 hrs, account is shutdown.  (have to weigh against unrelated revenge abuse tho)

It's a shame paying subscribers are subjected to this crap.  And who is supporting these gold companies anyway?  At this rate I'm sure it's just a matter of time before I get the spam message for viagra.
