I killed him pretty easy as a solo lvl 41 orc warrior without using retaliation. I did use a Scroll of Protection II and Scroll of Strength II. I just charged and focused my attack on him. After he died, his minions went down easy with one hit even though they were supposed to be around lvl 39. The whole attack brought me down to about 66% of my HP.
