Killing old heros from the Warcraft series is nothing new. Bliz has been setting those heroes up to die since the announcement of The Burning Crusade. I believe the first killable "old game hero" is Kel' Thuzad, though few people have ever actualy downed him let alone seen him due to the release of TBC so soon after the introduction of naxxramas.
The other killable "old game heros" (in order from when you might see them) are Zul' Jin, Lady Vashj, Prince Kael' Thas Sunstrider, Akama, and Illidan Stormrage.
Kel' Thuzad was originaly a dark necromancer under the command of The Lich King, (The Lich King is actualy the spirit of Ner' Zhul that was ripped from his body and encased in a throne of Ice in northrend). He was killed by Prince Arthas, and was later resurected by Arthas after he claimed Frostmourne and allied himself with the Lich King. Kel' Thuzad is currently the leader of Naxxramas, the necropolis floating ominously above The Eastern Plaguelands.
Zul' Jin is the final boss of the "newer" Zul' Aman 10 man raid. The reason he is now "evil" and able to be killed is because of The Horde's acceptance of the Blood Elves into their ranks. Zul' Jin's people, (The Amani Tribe), have been at war with the Blood Elves since their introduction into the Warcraft series, and only ever allied with the horde because the horde were also killing Blood Elves in Warcraft 2.
Lady Vashj leads the land bound naga under the command of Azshara, the queen of the fallen Highborn elves. She is currently Illidan's second in command, and watches over operations in the Coilfang instances and raids. She is the last boss of the 25 man raid The Serpentshrine Caverns.
Prince Kael' Thas Sunstrider was personaly my favorite hero in all of Warcraft 3, The Frozen Throne. He is the final heir to the royal Blood Elf throne. Illidan lied to Kael, telling him that he could quench the Blood Elve's thirst for magic; and Kael' Thas believed him. He is currently overseeing the preperations being made for Illidan's assault, (on The Frozen Throne in Northrend(, from one of the stolen Naaru ships on the edge of The Netherstorm in Outlands known as The Tempest Keep. (As a tangent point, The Exodar was another Naaru vessel).
Akama was aided by Lady Vashj and Keal' Thas when his outpost was attacked by Magtheridan's Fel Orcs and Demons. Akama pledged to fight with Illidan to free his people, The Ashtongue Deathsworn (A fact of Drenai knows as "The Broken" who were mutated from the Fel Energies that they became in contact with)(And before anyone calls me out on it, The Drenai were first Eredar who followed Velen and didn't join the Burning Legion under the command of the corrupted titan Sargeras). Akama is currently being held captive, right beside Maev Shadowsong, Illidan's Jailor, in Shadowmoon Valley. Part of his soul is tied to Illidan, and in the Black Temple you must defeat the "Shade of Akama" to progress through the raid.
This leads us to Illidan Stormrage. Illidan is "Shando" Malfurian Stormrage, the most gifted Druid Azeroth has ever known. Illidan was once a powerful sorcerer and became a Demon Hunter. Amidst his many battles, he vanquished the Dread Demon Azinoth and claimed the Demon's dual blades, which he still uses. Through his pursuit of powerful magic, he joined Sargeras in The War of The Ancients and created the second Well of Eternity, (the first was destroyed and broke azeroth into 3 continents: Kalimdor, Northrend, and The Eastern Kindom), and for it he was imprisoned for 10,000 years. Maev Shadowsong was his Jailor for the entirety of his sentance, until Tyrande Whisperwind released Illidan from his underground prison. He fought with Prince Arthas in Northrend and was Defeated. From there he retreated to The Black Citadel in Shadowmoon Valley in Outlands (Shattered Draenor). He is the final boss of the 25 man raid, The Black Temple.
Arthas has yet to be introduced into The World of Warcraft, though he will be the Final boss in the upcoming expansion The Wrath of the Lich King, but since we cannot kill him yet, I won't mention his part in Warcraft Lore and History.
And technicaly, you are able to kill Tyrande Whisperwind, Thrall, Vol' Jin, Cairne Bloodhoof, and a few other "raid bosses" in the World of Warcraft, as they Rein over their respective Cities in the World of Azeroth. As of this point, I don't believe that there are any quests to kill these "City Leaders."
I apologize in advance for any mistakes I made in Warcraft Lore. I wrote this all by memory. I also apologize for any mistakes in gramar and spelling.
