    Just as bugged now as it was 2 years ago.

    Used the knife on the altar over and over but nothing happens.
    It shows "Focusing" but he never appears.

      I just did this one tonight.  If you have problems getting the guy to appear,  do a UI reload and then click on it.  worked for me.

        Today I did the quest and i think blizz might of fixed the problem, either that or im lucky.  What i found was that when i went to the alter, Gazban was all ready there, killed him, looted quest done.  The i used the dagger and he spawned again. Now i went to the island where the elementals are, the ones you had to kill to get the bracers, and Gazban also spawns there. so if you cant get the dagger to work for ya, go to the island and try that out

      According to him best chances are just after a restart of the server.

      Also. I found in a reply below someone saying you have to stay to the north side. I did a couple of tests with it and i found out how to summon him.

      You have to stay close to the ground on the north side of the althar and it worked instantly. (after 20 tryes on other locations)

        Its still bugged. I tried this today 4 days after this post and it still shows focusing but doesnt do anything. Seems blizz dropped the ball yet again.

        It appears this quest is still bugged, even after the patch. Arrived at location to find him already standing next to the altar. You can interact w/ the altar, the focusing channel bar will appear, but nothing will happen and you cannot engage him in any fashion.

          I tried, and after readiong the "stay north and near to the ground", I did that. But when he appeared, he was a friend (green name) and so there was no way I could kill him!!

          Can interact with altar, but Gazban summons as a friendly. Cannot kill him :(

            Ya same here on Mug'thol. He's green when summoned. Found him on the island too where the water elementals are, but he was green there as well. :(

              He's still bugged today, as of the 29th of November, 2008. He's just sitting in front of the altar as a friendly/green NPC. I tried destroying the altar from the north, south, west, and east sides, and still nothing. I'm just abandoning it; I've got other quests I can do that are actually complete-able, ahaha.

        This quest has been bugged for more than a year.  I started playing in june 2007 and it was bugged in august 2007.

        I reported it, my friend reported it, the GM said the same thing as was said in the screen shot posted.

        MY advice. Do the quest up to that point, then abandon it.

        I seriously doubt they will ever fix it, with Lich King coming out in a week.

        I tried this quest again today on my 42 warrior. STILL bugged.
