You can fish for raw sagefish in certain new fishing swirls that came out in 1.9. The recipe for cooking them is vendor bought. I know the cooking supplies in Ironforge sells them, probably other places too.

Are they only in inland water sources(lakes, streams, rivers, etc)? Or has anyone found them on the coast?
Is there any good price for these, I mean are they worth picking up? Since I am fishing oilys and firefins, i might as well take these too. I found greater sagefishes in STV, north... 3 schools, and 12 of these.
I found that you could fish the regular Sagefish in any watery area of Ashenvale.
I also found a lot of regular Sagefish spots dotted up the river that is just east of Southshore in Hillsbrad. There is around 5-8 Greater Sagefish spawn spots in the Lake Nezeriti (or something) in Stranglethorn Vale. I've fished around 100 or so there today, the spawn spots reappear pretty good if you're there questing aswell. I would guess it'd take longer for the spots to come back if you're just there to farm the fish.
Greater Sagefish can be fished from the western side of Alterac Mountains now. The simplest way to get to the right spot (for Horde, anyway) is to fly to Silverpine and go east across the lake. There are several Greater Sagefish nodes on the shore next to Dalaran (the big pink dome), and further north along the Misty Shore and that whole area.
There are hostile mobs in the buildings in this area, including one 33 elite in a house, so watch out for that. But for the most part, it's just passive turtles. Certainly safer than anywhere in STV, and less chance of getting ganked if you're on a PvP server. I went up and down this coastline just once, fishing all the nodes until they were empty, and came back with a stack of Greater Sagefish, as well as some cloth and leather from the Floating Wreckage nodes. Nice spot.
There is several schools on Misty Shore. Need about 135 fishing, but without a bauble you'll need to skill up a little.
As for the guy bitching about locs in STV, how about you read the posts above you. Nessinwary's is right on a river. There are many schools of fish on the river that run through STV. Just follow the water man.
can greater sagefish be fished from 'sagefish schools' or must you specifically find agreater sagefish school?
if not, then theres at least 10 sageish schools up and down the river in hillsbrad. This post is faded because it has a negative score.
Did about 45 minutes fishing in Lordamere Lake on the Misty Shore trying to get to lvl 150 on my fishing skills. I only fished in the schools of Raw Greater Sagefish.This is what I caught:
4 Iron bound trunks (nothing much inside - a few weak potions and some various pieces of cloth) 14 Raw Bristle Whiskere Catfish 16 Raw Mithril Head Trout 6 Stranglekelp 23 Raw Greater Sagefish That's a drop rate of about 36%. happy fishing.
If you're low, sure, alterac is the best, but if you're 50-60 go fish in stv. start at the top and work your way down both sides of the river next to grom gol.
aside from that, here's the best way to locate pools- swim underwater. you can miss pools from the top, but you can clearly see them from below. try it.
I took the advice of a few of the above posters and ran along Lordamere Lake in Alterac. Found about 12 schools and fished this out of them in approximately an hour.
69 Greater Sagefish 5 Rumsey Rum 5 trunks (all with either/or heavy leather, healing/mana potions, silk and money in them) 7 stranglekelp Added 24 points to my fishing skill (136-160) The only mobs around were in fact the turtles, but like one of the posters said, be careful around a house out there or those elites will eat you for dinner (if you're a level 30 like me anyway).

I found no pools south of the venture mining company....I'm fishing north of there now and i found 8 pools!....41-16 and north.... in stranglehorn vale!
For those of you hunting the elusive Raw Greater Sagefish around UC area, I ran around the side of UC, went east across the lake into Alterac Mtns and fished the shoe there. Here are the exact locations of the pools I found:
37, 17 37, 19 35, 24 34, 27 31, 31 31, 32 27, 41 20, 49 18, 52 15, 52 13, 54. There was some Floating Wreckage at 23, 45 as a bonus. Raw Greater Sagefish by sponcy, Score -0.84
STV - Just follow the river from Nessingwary's Expedition camp through Lake Nazferiti to just passed Mizjah Ruins. I had my "Find Fish" on and every yellow dot that turned up on my map was a Greater Sagefish School. Caught 30 in 15 minutes (incl. 5 trunks full of stuff), and gonna keep catching some more. =)
Another great way to locate fish schools is a book I found. Was fishing and got a waterlogged trunk, opened it up and founda waterlogged journal. The art of fish finding, it teaches you the skill Find: Fish and they show up on ur minimap as if you were a herbalist searching for herbs or a miner for veins. Is so friggin pimp!
Deffinatly in STV..... found anywere from the beggining of th lake near 'Nesingwary's Expedition', and anywere down the lake until it reaches the ocean.
Best way is to swim under water and find the schools PS!... after 3-6 catches at a school, the school moves on so you have to find it again PPS!!... When fishinf at a school you will see a flashy circle on the surface of the water, this is were the school is and were you have to cast to catch a sagefish.... so just keep casting until you are in/around the edges of the circle :) bastards!! happy fishing :)
For those of you that cook, Sagefish Delight is good if you're gonna use it... if you plan to sell, don't bother, you're wasting money on the spices. Just sell the fish, you get the same sale value on Raw Greater Sagefish as you do for Sagefish Delight.
Take the zeppelin to Grom'gol base camp...
From Grom'gol, ss you travel north along the nearby stream you will see schools of greater sagefish, one after another. Follow that stream to Lake Nezertini, you will find many schools there. And beyond the Lake nearby Nesingwary's expedition you will find several more schools. Ok guys, here it is.
The issue with this fish isn't that its a rare fish to hit, its actually really easy to find. What you NEED to do is go to STV, and follow the map provided on this page. Many of you may be thinking "I've done that for HOURS and gotten nothing!" Well, here's the catch my friends... THE FISH ARE IN A NODE! So, what do we do? Run up and down the path searching for the School of this fish. You cannot click on them, just highlight them. The particular node will be called "Greater Sagefish School". So, take out your fishing gear, and fish until your line lands in the circular node of these fish. While the node exists (2-6 catches) EVERY SINGLE CAST will catch one of that fish. This remains true for the rest of your fishing career.
Best Place I found to fish for it in the river at the top of Stranglethorn Vale (35.9 to 32.8). Several schools along the river.
