I recently acquired my first Mr Pinchy and burned through his three wishes without getting the pet. Earlier I caught my second Mr Pinchy, and I was curious about what my chances would be of getting the pet out of the six total tries available to me.
I used the following formula to come to my findings:
1-((F^T)/(O^T))
F = the failure rate (in other words, the chance of NOT catching Mr Pinchy, which is 4 of the 5 possible outcomes)
O = the possible outcomes, which is 5 (gift, pet, furious, benevolent, blessing)
T = the number of tries.
NOTE: this formula could very well not be accurate; even though I'm pretty strong with math, probability is not my forte. If I've done something wrong with my figures, please let me know.
Using the formula I came up with the following odds to catch him:
1 wish: 20%
2 wishes: 36%
3 wishes: 48.8%
6 wishes: 73.8%
9 wishes: 86.6%
12 wishes: 93.1%
15 wishes: 96.5%
18 wishes: 98.2%
21 wishes: 99.1%
Keep in mind that this only reflects the wishes you have left, not the ones you've already used. In other words, if you've already burned through 4 Mr Pinchies and you have just caught your 5th, you have 3 wishes coming to you for a 48.8% chance of catching him, rather than the 96.5% chance reflected for 15 wishes.
No, in fact, his calculations are flawless
While each individual try only has a ~20% chance, the odds of obtaining the desired outcome increase in larger samples.
So, if you only try once, you have a 20% chance. But if you try 10 times, the chance that at least one of those tries will have been successful is far greater.
I guess I got very lucky I caught Mr. Pinchy on my first cast at Blackwind lake and got the box on my first wish. Good luck to all my fellow anglers still trying for this one.

Mr. Pinchy can only be caught in Highland Mixed Schools, which are located in Outland in the bodies of water accessible primarily by flying mounts. He MUST be fished out of a node. Fishing normally in the water will not find you one.
Mr. Pinchy himself is a BoP blue item caught randomly from these schools. Upon placing him in your inventory, you can right-click on him to make a wish.
Each wish has a two day cooldown, and each Mr. Pinchy only has three wishes before he vanishes and you will have to catch him again. As a note, it is entirely possible to catch more than one Mr. Pinchy at a time for more chances, but all Mr. Pinchys in your inventory will be on the same cooldown, so you will still only be able to make one wish per two days. Each time you make a wish, there are five possible, random, outcomes.
The Magical Crawdad Box is one of those outcomes. Some people (like myself) get lucky and get their crawdad box on their first Mr. Pinchy. Others sometimes have to go through two or three. Sometimes more.
I, myself, have caught Mr. Pinchy twice on two different characters now. My drae paladin caught it on his third cast ever into his first Highland pool, and got the magical crawdad box on his second wish. My troll hunter was looking for it for about a week off and on, fishing a couple hours a day before he finally found his Pinchy and got the pet on his first wish.

Spent most of today fishing for him. Just caught him in Lake Jorune from the dock. Fishing skill 379 with graphite pole (+20) and a +75 lure.
Guess I got lucky. I got the Magical Box on my first wish.
Surely I am not the only person to recognise Mr Pinchy from that Simpsons episode where Homer buys a lobster to grow and eat, but then becomes attached to it. He named it Mr Pinchy of course. He ends up accidentally cooking it when he makes it a hot bath, then eats it all to himself. Great episode.
Btw, I caught 2 of these last night in 10min after a couple of hours farming. I got Benevolent Mr Pinchy, the combat pet. Now 5 more wishs. They are on a global cooldown too, so you can't use one then the other. 2 days cooldown to use either of them. Knowing my luck, I won't get the pet...
Might come back in a week or so and report what I got.

P.S. Anyone else think it's bad fishing etiquette to jump in on a fishing node when you are fishing it specifically for My. Pinchy? I would never do it. 4 times today Jtessel (80 Dwarf Paladin so what can you expect) cast at my pool until it was depleted. Uncool. I would have left him alone all day if he did not do that. But after first blood was drawn, i was fishing his nodes the rest of the day as well whenever I caughjt up to him, which i'm sure he did not appreciate. He had a Proto-Drake mount as well, so he had speed on me, but still did it... oh well. Some people. ;-) Beauty is, i'll catch Pinchy before him and make sure to show him. Cheers.

Agreed, and I'm an alliance druid... doesnt matter what faction they are, that is still ridiculous.... The best ones? some idiot of my own faction filling the Dalaran pool with smoke bombs.... /sigh
FINDING MR PINCHY, need to fish in Highland Mixed School's of fish in Terokkar Forest:
There are 3 areas all linked, so if one has no schools of highland mixed try another area
1. Above Stonebreaker Hold - Jorune Lake
2. Near the Skettis - Blackwind Lake
3. Behind Allerian Stronghold - Lake Ere'Noru
Once my fishing was 500+ with lures etc no fish were getting away. Took me a while to catch Mr Pinchy, but was leveling my fishing at the same time so worked out well, got around about 15 skill points lookin for him.
In case you've tried to search for these locations by name, it's actually "Lake Jorune," but now that I've also tried just with "Jorune," it doesn't come up at all. When s/he says "above Stonebreaker Hold," it's truly above it, not north of it. Gotta fly up...
Ihave been trying to catch mr. pinchy for about 4 days now, nonstop, countless casts made and many many furious crawdads caught, I am fishing in the highland schools and I am maxed out any suggestions?
I finally caught said Mr. Pinchy I am hopin to get the ach only time will tell do not want to repeat this one
Ok, I just came from farming for Old Crafty in Ogrimmar for many hours without success (I'm Aliance on PvP server just to make it even more difficult).
So I thought I'd give Pinchy a go.
The first lake I come to has a mixed school.
First fish I got a Furious Crawdad
Second fish was Mr Pinchy.
First wish... Magical Crawdad Box.
I guess my luck evened out in the end. :P
Needed to fish about 1500 fishes for my first pinchy, all 3 attempts failed. Started all over again and this time i got it on the 3rd fish. Talk about 2 different types of luck there
Fished for over 1 hour at Skettish and after 100 fish atleast I caught Mr Pinchy :)
Not that bad I think, now trying to go for Old Crafty
I farmed alone in Skettis, and after 10 mins I got Mr. Pinchy. I got the Crawdad box on my first wish! man were some people in my guild pissed :)
I just caught my mr pinchy @ fishing lvl 314 and on my first try got the pet
I got Mr.Pinchi after 45 casts above Sketis ...maybe i was lucky or maybe the drops now is higher from beffore!!!

If you don't loot the pool will still disappear after 2-5 casts...
It took me two weeks of fishing the Mixed Highland pools in Skettis to get Mr. Pinchy.(I'm maxed at fishing BTW with no lure attached)
If you fish really early in the morning right after reset is usually the best for the pools. Otherwise you have to fly around continuesly to fight other players for the pools and the respawn rate is about 10 to 15 minutes per pool.
Remember to fly over all 3 lakes that where listed in one of the above posts.
Anyway got Mr. Pinchy after I'd fished all the pools and was working on the cooking daily from Shatt. when a pool popped up.
3rd cast gave me Mr Pinchy. (No fanfair so watch your text)
He looks just like the furious crawdad so don't destroy him.
Got the Magical Crawdad pet on the 1st wish. Keeping Mr. Pinchy to see if the other 2 charges give anything.

Got Mr. Pinchy in Skettis Lake. First wish was the pet. What luck was that? Only been trying for a few days to get the achievement. And what a cute looking pet to boot!
Amazingly enough after about 7 or 8 tries I finally managed to fish up Mr. Pinchy, and wouldn't you know it, first wish got me the pet! Pure luck!
So. Caught Mr Pinchy in Skettis. First wish was the Furious whatever its name was. Put Pinchy in the bank for the cooldown. Managed to catch a 2nd Mr Pinchy. Made a wish....but my inventory was full!
I almost cried :'( then I discovered I had mail...from Mr Pinchy! It was the crawdad box! Woot! So if a Inventory Full message happens to you, dont worry, you'll still get your pet :) Along with a funny letter ;)
I found mr pinchy in blackwind lake in skettis. Took me about 30 fish to get him

I don't know how you guys get so lucky. I finially caught my first Mr Pinchy after 5 days of fishing in all the Highland nodes I could find.
level 80, 450 fishing,+20 bonus pole + 6 days + 20 lures =no Mr.Pinchy. Fuck you Blizzard for another bullshit activity. The .001% catch percent has got to be repaied.
Took about an hour up at Skettis, but finally got Mr. Pinchy. Got box on first wish.
seriously, ive been fishing this little prick for 2-3 weeks a couple of hours a day and sometimes 4 hours striaght, i have 450 fishing Kalu'ak Fishing Pole and using +100 lures, WTF!!!!! am i doing something wrong im fishing in Highland Mix Schools only.........
I have fished for this guy for 2 weeks total now, bout 10 hors total in fishing. still no MR. Pinchy like 500 Furious crawdad's
tons of other stuff and only fishing in the three spots and nodes.

how long does it normaly take at skettis to have the nodes respawn? ive been fishing here for about 10 mins fished all the nodes and going on an hour and a half and still no respawn in nodes
After 3 weeks of fishing for him 1-2 hours a day with no success, I finally decided to try something mentioned in some of the posts above. My realm was down for some extra maintenance. As soon as it came back up, I headed straight out to try for Mr Pinchy. Fishing is 585 (450 base, +30 jeweled fishing pole, +5 Weather beaten fishing hat, +100 lure). The first thing I noticed that was different this time (just after realm re-start) was that I was catching about 90% Furious Crawdads...typically I'd been getting around 50% with the rest of the catches being spread amongst crates, Golden Darters, huge spotted feltail/barb gill trout, etc. The next thing I noticed was...I caught Mr Pinchy! Finally...Blackwind lake! Got the achievement on my first wish.
Not sure if it was a coincidence or not, but I definitely noticed a difference in fishing right after a realm re-start...even before I caught Pinchy. If I ever go for him again with another toon, I will definitely try for him right after a realm re-start.
I made a habit of checking each of the three spawning areas each time I checked to see if Crocolisks in the City was the daily. After about one week of fishing, I caught Mr. Pinchy near Skettis today. It started an amazing streak of fishing luck, after returning to Dalaran I caught the rat in the sewers and then the turtle mount outside Winterfin Village on the Borean Tundra coast! I can't believe it! Headed to IF to see if my luck continues! P.S. I have the Kaluak epic fishing pole and kept a sharpened fishing hook equipped.
Why is there a point with the lures and fishing gear? Does more fishing skill make any difference?
I have been fishing for well over 3 hours and no Mr. Pinchy... I'm starting to lose hope. I was just hopeing the thottbot gods would shine on me if I posted
Spent about two hours fishing for this over two days. Got Mr Pinchy on my second day and recieved the pet on my first wish.
About 8 hours over 4 days and no sign of this as yet.

Approximately 10 hrs. Logged on after extended Wednesday maintanance and fished up on the first cast from a school in Lake Jorune. The pet dropped on the first wish.....overjoyed.
Found in fourth node fished in Lake Ere Noru
First wish dropped the magical box with pet.
My skill was at 380 with +100 sharpened hook.

I started fishing in Terokkar Forst (Outlands) in Blackwind Lake for Mr. Pinchy.
***He can only be caught from the "Highland Mixed Schools"...
I sent my first cast at 10:12am (server time) and caught:
- Tattered Cloth
- 2 Inscribed scroll cases
- 9 Furious crawdads
and at 10:19am I caught Mr. Pinchy! I right clicked on the little guy and I got the pet!

I still haven't caught him. I've fished those Highland Mixed schools every day now for at least 10 minutes, sometimes 20 minutes (the length of 1 or 2 fishing buffs.)
My unbuffed fishing is 450, I have Ka'luak pole, and a +100 sharpened hook on there. I've been fishing for this little guy now for 7 days straight, roughly 100 minutes of my life down the toilet... LOL. Fates hate me...

i finally got him been fishing him on and off for 2 weeks my first wish was the magical crawdad pet i almost fell of the chair i didnt think it would be the first pet keep trying guys it will come good luck
