I just soloed it as a lvl 70 rogue (Sneakystabby) on Trollbane. Here's how I did it.
First, what you'll need:
* A buddy
* Some form of water-walking
* Some way to avoid falling damage
Get your buddy to join a raid group with you so that you can get into SSC. Once you're in, go down the first elevator and up the second elevator (there are no mobs encountered through this), and you'll find yourself just before a watery area.
At this point, use your water-walking item and your anti-falling item. I used the water-walking potion from the daily fishing quests, but you can also use the Shaman water-walk ability or a number of other things. As far as anti-falling I used the halloween candy buff that makes you spectral (it gives you slow-fall as well) but you can also guzzle Noggenfogger until you get slowfall, or if you're a priest or mage you can use a spell. The rogue natural fall-damage-absorbing talent may do the trick as well but I didn't want to chance it.
Anyway, once you've done that, drop down onto the water and run to the northeast. There are fish in the water but you shouldn't aggro them if you're water-walking (at least, they didn't aggro me).
In the center of SSC is an area of water surrounded by a little bit of land you can stand on, and a giant glowing pool at the center. Fish that pool until you get the Lurker; it took me 2 or 3 casts to get him.
Now be prepared to die. There's no way to really avoid this; I tried Vanishing, to no effect. But it doesn't matter if you die at this point, because you'll have gotten the achievement already. You don't have to BEAT him, just SUMMON him.
After this, spirit-rez and enjoy your new achievement.
So are you saying that you can do this as any class solo? You didn't have to stealth at all to get around mobs? I hope so, cause this is the only really hard achievement I have left to get the title, but I will never get into a raid group for SSC. Guess I'll go try and see for myself.
Edit: Okay I just did this with my priest. Used levitate which gives me the slow fall and the water walking. This is probably the easiest and quickest achievement I have done yet. Did not run into one mob. Fished him up first catch and he killed me in one hit, lol. But got the achievement done. Just follow the steps above. You will need one person to join a group with you and convert to raid, but they don't have to be there.
This was the fishing achievement that I was the most worried about, but it was the easiest one to accomplish.
he said it was the only hard one he had left
dalaran coin fishing is tedious, not hard
Did what he said, easy peasy... DK (so water walking) and engineer... so I used my parachute cape
Never been in there before, elevator #1 is as you walk in, follow the path to elevator #2, no mobs along the way, jumped into the water (its a long jump so used the parachute cloak), ran to the little rank, 3rd cast he came up and killed me.
You do not need waterwalking or slow fall for this quest. i just completed it without either. Any stealth class (75+) can easily stealth past every mob. u come near where the platform is. jump in the water, get bitten for maybe 2k hp and jump on platform where the strange pool is. Hope this helps someone cuz i was offering 200g for waterwalking so i didnt have to wait -.-
Valdaran - Altar of Storms
great advice, managed to vanish as lvl 80 rogue, and easy achievement :)
I just finished this on my pally. Used the water walking potion and bubbled when I jumped off the landing. Still fell in the water initially and aggroed a few fish but I left combat before my bubble was up so I didnt lose my water walking. After that it was a piece of cake ;)
My 70 hunter did this yesterday. You need some form of slow fall, dont pop your water walking potion until JUST before you hit the water. It works.
Solo'd this today on my mage and lived, i did as stated before. Made a raid with a friend, went in and slowfall'd + water walked after the 2nd elevator. Walked to the middle. And as a mage I casted a portal to shattrath before I started fishing. Fished him up in 3 casts, got the achievement, entered combat, and right clicked the portal to escape alive. Didn't even see the boss.
Other classes could come along and also use the portal to avoid a run back/repair bill.
Okay guys, the easiest way to solo right now: Here it is.
Any class can do this, by themselves.
All you need is the Hallow's End Pumpkin Treat candy. Keep eating it until your a ghost. This is works the same as levitate. Then simply float down and stroll over to lurkers spot and fish him up. Easy as pie!
Of course, if your a priest you can just levitate yourself and be done with it lol.
Soloed as a mage.
The first time I tried, I did slow-fall down to the water and water-walked (water-walking potions from the fishing daily), but the fish got me still.
The next time I did it, I used my mage invisibility spell, and had an invisibility potion as a backup which I popped right as my mage invisibility ran out. Success!
Minimum fishing required 280 (without buffs)although additional buffs are recommended. I got to 270 and had 110 extra buffed and it said requires fishing 280.
that's good enough i think about 350 buffed is needed
My brother and I did this together. What we both did was use a water walking potion while I shielded and jumped. My brother used slowfall then canceled it just before he hit the water, just to be safe. My brother caught it in like 20 casts but he was the only one who got the achievement I just got killed by the fish. I'm planing to go back by myself and get it tomorrow because i ran out of time. Im gonna try bubble hearthing to save myself when I do catch him lol xD
Doorittoz lvl 70 holy pally
lvl 326 fishing +75 lure +20 fishing pole
Antroth lvl 70 arcane mage
lvl 328 fishing +75 lure and +25 from hat and pole
P.S you have to be in the very center of the instance were there is a giant pool of fish called "Strange pool"
If you wanna save a lot of time bring an invisibility potion with you. No matter what i tried i kept falling in the water and aggroing the fish. Tried about everything from the posts above and nothing seemed to work, maybe cause Im a priest and i was using levitate cause i had no more water walking elixirs. If ur gonna cast shield or levitate do it first or it will remove the potions effect, though u don't need either. Just drink the potion jump in the water then drink ur water walking elixir or pop levitate b4 invisibility wears off and you'll have no troubles, and, ull save urself a hell of a lot more time than i did b4 i finally figured this out.
As a shaman just jump in the water, die of course, then rez, cast water walking run over and fish him up from the circle. Took me a couple of minutes.
Did this on 4 toons - all Level 80 - over the weekend.
Warlock - Levitate from a Priest.
Priest - Levitate.
Shaman - Little more difficult.
Ran down ramp to 1st pull.
Stayed to the Left so no aggro.
Waited for the big green bog giant to head other direction. Got as close as possible to 2nd pull of Hydra mobs without aggro'ing them.
Jumped into Water, on left side of dock.
Dropped Stoneclaw totem (generate threat).
Cast Waterwalk (have minor glyph - no regent necessary).
Got to first ramp (that goes upward to your left).
Checked health, totem CD, etc.
If facing so ramp goes upward to your left (strafe left to go up ramp), then repeat to ramp in front of you now.
Cast waterwalk, run to ramp, drop Stoneclaw totem.
Go up ramp, to other side, down ramp to right.
Cast waterwalk, circle counter-clockwise around big-pillar, drop Stoneclaw totem (I didn't notice any fish at this point though).
Run to "reef" looking area in front of you.
Cast fishing pole until it lands SMACK dab center in the sparkley bright blue pool. I tilted my camera to look straight down so I could tell when the cast was in the correct place.
Huntard - Lock SS'd, ran with Shaman, waterwalk and Stoneclaw totem FTW. Died 1x, rez'd with SS.
Took 10 fishing casts on Lock, less on other 3 toons.
When I ran SSC back in TBC days, I was told that maxxed fishing skill was necessary to pull Lurker (375, plus bait). If you have lowbie fishing skill and are crying about what to use to pull him, level your fishing. It's that easy. I wouldn't bother with less than 350, imho. Unless Blizz nerfed the skill b/c of the Wrath expansion.
All fishing was over 400 + 30 pole (The Kalu'ak exalted rep. pole), and +100 lure. So, 530 fishing.
I just did this a few hours ago on my 80 druid with 270 fishing with Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole (+20.) And what is all this I hear about falling damage, slow fall, etc? You don't need anything of the sort. Unless you are afraid of falling into the water and getting munched on for a few seconds by the frenzy fish? I just jumped in, swam to Lurker's platform and fished him up. Took me about 8 or 9 attempts. Although he did shoot 3 10K+ waterbolts at me :(
You don't need 300 fishing, or even 280 unbuffed. Just 270, perhaps lower? Good luck!!
You CAN do this without slow fall.
I just did this with only Path of Frost on,
you just have to walk to where the first mobs are (they shouldn't see you when you're lvl 80) And jump down from there.
Make sure your point of view is horizontally with your character if you're using path of frost, so you won't fall in.
From there just walk north-east to where the "strange pool" is and start fishing.
GL & HF
P.S.
If you can't enter the instance, make sure your dungeon difficulty is set to Normal. ;)
With my ALT Lvl 80 Rogue (Lightfoot on Hellscream) - Stealthed through past first couple mobs to first pipe and walked down to the water. (Didn't need slow fall this way). Used a walk on water potion - to get to glowing water area ... fished him up - got the achievement on second cast - popped Stealth to drop combat ... hearthed out!
My ALT Lvl 24 priest (Vormimus on Darkspear) thanks you for this information. Be sure to remember my name, I'll be famous someday.
just solo'd on my 80 mage tried numerous times to invis past all pats cause i didn't have a shaman to help some where along the line i'd always pull one of them. then went to AH and bought elixir of water walking used it popped slowfall ran along water to lurker no fish aggro'd took me like 5 or 6 attempt to fish up with 450 skill plus a 100+ lure as soon as i saw the achievement pop up i quickly poped invisibility got it just in time lurker despawned popped out of invis and safely ported to dalaran :D MAGES FTW!
question... dont understand wat i need to do to get inside the SSC please explain.
You need to be in a raid to be able to get into raid instances. To make a raid you need at least one other person to make a regular party with. Then press "O" and open the "Raid" tab and select "Convert To Raid". I'm not sure if the other person has to stay in the raid or not.
You have to stay in "Raid" mode until you get inside, then it does not matter. Used that way to get Exalted with ZG.
Solo w/80 Hunter: First few times tried a combo of slowfall and elixer, but that didn't work. I tried the hunter advice above, but while the initial feign works, popping waterwalk elixer immediately aggros fish and their hit cancels elixer. Tried several times before I tried another tack. I walked past first group on platform...tried to kill one giant (only 72 elite) but couldn't keep pet alive. Then just stood on that ramp (after first platform) and faced right, towards the pipe that goes into the water. Ran, jumped and slowfall cape'd and got about 1/2 way to pipe. I expected to die again, but on hitting the water I didn't aggro any fish!! Maybe it's a safer spot to jump in. That gave me the seconds needed to hit waterwalking elixer and hop up onto water. Then just walked straight into cavern and a bit left to Lurker spot. It took 12 casts before he popped. Instantly ran away a bit, FD, and ported out. Hope this helps.
OK the easiest way to do this for any class is as follows.
1. You need 1 invisibility potion, 1 water walking elixir, 1 friend to make a raid.
2. Go to SSC
3. Walk past first mob keeping them to the right.
4. Wait till bog lord pats away.
5. When you are half way to the second mob look right and there is a pipe entering the water about 50 yards from the walkway you are standing on, take the invisibility potion, jump in the water and swim to the pipe.
6. Get out of the water and stand on the pipe, take the water walking elixir and walk to where Lurker is.
7. Fish him up.
Anyone else get low level fish when fishing this spot? I got 3 raw greater sagefish, and one iron-bound trunk. Ok, and the Lurker as well, but thats a given.
can be done at fishing 134. Need to have slowfall and waterwalking ability if you dont have a dk with you.
Fishing up lurker is, indeed, solo-able. The comment above about using invisibility is how I did it. Walk past first group of mobs, wait for spore giant to walk away, pop invis. position and swim to pipe going up. Pop water walking pot, and walk to Lurker and fish. I got lurker on my very first cast, along with the achievement. I didn't hearth in time, so I died of course.
ok thi is how i did it and took me no more then 5mins
#1 u must have a [Elixir of Water Walking] only 1 but bring more in case u mess up
#2 run right past the 1st set of mobs
#3 on the 2nd platform after that u should see a pipe leading out of the water...now make a brake for it from any fish im a warrior and poped all ym tank CDs to not die
#4 after u made it on to the pipe run up it till u leave combat then just walk down pop ur [Elixir of Water Walking] and ur home free from any fish just head over the spot and cast away only took me 3cast after that just die and ur done
is this soloable as a lv 74 DK? if so...how?
I think it is possible to get out alive.
When you get the Achievement, you try as fast as possible to click on your HS
Soloing this as a rogue, i obviously had no chance fighting it. However, before it even stacked me (just as i got the achievement) i vanished and it went away before it could touch me.
All the posts on this are great and jus wanted to add that you can also go with a pally. Use ur water walking potion and have them put hand of protection on you and fall down then run to the pool and fish. Works every time. One thing to note is whoever else is there will die when the lurker surfaces so have them leave if they are going to do it as well to save on deaths. Taking off your armor will also save on some repair costs. Happy Fishing!!
All the tips are great and work. I wanted to tip the chords to where he is for easier navigation, but either A. I forget in anticipation of getting it or B. Are chords valid in instance/raid?
Anyway, the pool he's in is "Strange Pool" surrounded by a water-level circular island. It's surrounded by the mobs above ground.
I'm a lvl 80 Rogue and he hit me once for 7k (non-critical) melee. Sucked! But, I vanished and the Strange Pool resurfaced after he disappeared.
Fun stuff! Also received two Greater Sagefish.
follow the wise steps of donquixote235 they work i added a screenshot of the pool.
enjoy
I solo'd this with an 80 Frost DK, and then again with an 80 Blood DK (with a Mage's help).
First, I tried to take Bogath's advice of just using Path of Frost and jumping from the first platform with nagas. When I tried it, I took a couple hundred falling damage, which dispelled Path of Frost, then I got eaten by piranhas. Each hit from piranhas was only about 300, but there's tons of them. For the second try as Frost, I jumped in and hit Unbreakable armor. This lasted long enough to swim to where a pipe comes out of the water. From there, I could reapply Path of Frost and walk over to the strange pool. I unequipped all my armor, expecting to die when the Lurker appeared. About 12 casts later, got the Lurker who promptly killed me.
The lurker submerges again after he wipes you out, so someone else in your raid can fish him up next time.
As the Blood DK, I had no way to survive the fall or the trip to the pipe from the platform. So I had to borrow a mage for their Slow Fall. Slow Fall + Path of Frost and there were no hitches walking to the pool and fishing again. 8 casts. Lurker. Splat. As a bonus, he also killed the mage with a ranged attack, despite the mage still standing at the 2nd elevator. If you ask a kindly mage to help you, suggest they leave the instance after buffing you.
Do NOT try to use the mouse to turn or walk. If you try it with path of frost on, the game will make you dive underwater slightly. This might be a bug, but either way you're piranha food.
Also, the mage at the elevator did not get the achievement. Either that's too far away, or you have to personally be the one that fishes up the lurker.
NB: Pots of invisibility will let u drop into the water without the fish aggroing. Once in, use you waterwalking pot, or path of ice for DK's (which is what I did).
Where is serpentshrine cavern, i swam in the tube and found the underbog and 2 others but not serpentshrine cavern, where is it?
If you are revered with the Sha'tari Skyguard you can buy a cape: Skywitch's Drape. It gives you slowfall for 10 seconds which is just enough to land safely on the water below.
I solo'd as a 72 frost mage, I bought some water walking potions, and when I got there, I jumped at the ledge, and ice blocked, it worked, nothing attacked me or got me, other ways work too, same with The deadliest catch. I used the potion, started to catch the fish, used the "Mudskunk lure" than got the achiv. but sometimes it doesn't always work, sometimes you half to kill the fish in the water, but they have at least 9000hp witch is nice and easy.
Ok, i don't know how anyone does this without some type of slow fall ability and water walking elixir. I'm a level 80 warrior and i had to use the noggenfogger and water walking elixir because once i hit the water that was it, the fish were happy to see me. Use those and its cake. Of course if you are solo you will die once you fish up the boss :-)
You don't have to die once you fish him up, depending on your class. My mage: created a portal, once I got achievement I clicked portal; my NE hunter, as soon as I got achievement, I shadowmelded...he left; my druid, stealthed; my lock; had set demonic circle, ported then hearthed
