[Alliance] - This event takes awhile to start. I think the game waits on 5 to do it before it begins since we waited almost 15, then it started immediately after the 5th came in and talked to Wrynn.

The event is incredibly fun, put away your pet if you're a hunter - you won't need him and he'll just get dead.

It takes a while to start, if you've gone AFK and  you return to see a message at the top of your screen that the attack has stared, you can just run forward into the tunnel, and a flag will pop up on your back, keep going down the tunnel till you catch up with the king. No need to restart.

Also, beware, this quest takes a LONG time to do, so don't accept it unless you can devote a good 5-10 minutes to uninterrupted play. The king keeps moving forward and attacking more mobs and running through the town and you need to keep up.

It's improved now. You don't have to cool your heels waiting for four more players to arrive to do the quest. The quest/raid starts 5 minutes after the first (or only) player talks to King Varian Wrynn. It doesn't matter how many players there are; the system now makes up the number to five with npc troops.

Okay, this is what you need to know about this quest, a lot of the above information is misleading, so just read this for enlightenment:

    1. When you go throught the portal, if the king is not there, you have to wait it out, when you start the quest, you get a flag put on you, you can not complete the quest unless you have a flag on your back.

    2. If the king is there, there will be a timer at the top of the screen, sit tight and wait, once the timer is up, he will put flags on everyone that is present, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE IN GROUP!! (the objective of the quest is to assist the king, not to kill any boss, you are considered assisting as long as you have that flag)

    3. Once the king goes into the Undercity, follow closely, him and his party will do most of the dmg, and keep you all healed, so just stay close, and don't worry, there is little to no chance of failing.

    4. There is no loot from the bosses (at least none that anyone present in my run was able to obtain), and there are 3 bosses to face, first will be a giant worm, second will be Putress, and the last will be...THRALL!!  And no, you don't kill Thrall, you get in combat, and soon after get ported to SW again, where you hand in the quest, fully completed!

I do not know how often this quest resets, it is a timed event though, so just be patient and wait for it to begin.  The quest itself, once began, takes about 15 mins.

This questline was incredibly fun, best in the game to date, but I've only done Fjord, Tundra, and Dragonblight.  So lets hope that Blizz decided to keep this as a teaser to the real fun!!

-this can be done solo (I did it lvl 72 rogue)
-wait for the King (and I don't mean Elvis) and speak with him
-you will then see a timer indicating when the battle will begin
-a few battles will go on while you are waiting (no need to join)
-the King is one heck of a tank and Jaina will keep you alive; just follow him and fight what he fights

If you go back to The Undercity sewer entrance where the battle first begins and talk to Bearmantle, (the night elf dude) you can re-aquire the quest.

Really good fun quest, so cool the way they are adjusting the content once you have completed certain quests. On my Hordie I love the Undercity so I found the whole storyline pretty freaky. GG Blizz =)

Indeed, this happened to me.  I hesitated in deciding whether to stay with Jaina or follow the king, and then when I went to run after the king, he had already disappeared.  After a fruitless search for him I eventually hearthed out and went back to see the king in Stormwind.  The portal to Undercity was still there, but clicking on it did nothing.  At this point I was getting a little upset, but I decided after reading this thread to go there on my own (took gryphon to western plaguelands, then ran the rest of the way.)  This worked!  Apparently the "state" of this area will remain frozen for your character until you complete the quest.  In fact, it looked like it applied to the entirety of Tirisfal Glades.  I ran around for a few minutes uncovering the map, and there wasn't a single mob in sight anywhere in the zone except for where the quest begins.

Anyway, I reacquired the quest as stated above.  I can confirm the coordinates of the quest giver at 50,69.

    I'll admit it:

I DIED DOING THIS QUEST. :D

I'd worked overnight and wasn't particularly with it.  Went in solo.  Second boss when all the jelly experiments zerg you my priest kept spamming holy nova and I must have done something wrong because I croaked.

I logged out and went to bed.

I came back a day later (after Tuesday Maintenance, too), and rezzed at my body, still in the instanced Undercity.  I rode around the place - completely empty.  Walking back to the portal I ran into undercity guard fellers.  I finally rezzed at the angel.  There's no "!" you speak to the king as before to restart the questline moving.

This time I hit Power Word Shield each chance I had.  Easy cake.

The end IS confusing though - the king is in combat with Thrall, then POOF!  Back in Stormwind.  I'm wondering if I hit a key and canceled a cutscene.

One last thing - if you're doing it solo and you get to the worm boss, get ready to be thrown around a lot.  You'll be the only person the worm does it to.

That's the best advice I ever saw on Thottbot, but I can improve on it. BEFORE you do this quest, get one weapon of every kind that you can use from your bank (oh, and leave all your armor in the bank, because you won't need it and it may get damaged). During the fight, load a weapon that you need to increase your skill on (take the one with the highest speed because that affects the learning speed). Use only that weapon while fighting (it's a long fight). Then when your skill maxes out, switch to another weapon. One run of this quest was enough to raise my weapon skill from 80 to 300 (although the last 20 skill-ups are hardest). But DONT COMPLETE this quest. Abandon (before the Thrall battle/port!) and and restart it at the sewer entrance arming yourself with the next weapon you need to skill-up. It takes about one run for each weapon type you want to level up from low to high skill (maybe not max, but high). That's 30 minutes.

The heals by Lady Proudmoore are so strong that I basically tanked up to 20 mobs at a time even naked and with res sickness. But I was able to die if I tanked too many or stood in the BRIGHT YELLOW clouds that Putress can spew (the green clouds are harmless). Mind you I was naked and had res sickness. Whether you die or not you have the awesome opportunity to explore Undercity without any mobs to hassle you. However the elevators up to the surface don't work for you. So the only way up is the sewer entrance, but if you go that way when there are horde guarding the sewer, it will kill you (you may be able to res above ground if you are not too deep undergound when you die.)

BONUS HACK: you can explore all of the Tirifal zone while waiting, without meeting any mobs. Get the Tirisfal Exploration achievement while you wait for the run to start. Too bad you can't see and pick herbs or ore. Make sure to explore Deathknell which is hard to reach safely in normal circumstances.

Note that when you run above ground you can sometimes get close enough to Lady Proudmoore underground that you get her flag and her heals.

From what I can experienced through many runs, you don't have to "wait" for the King to return to start the quest. I've successfully just ran down into the tunnels and caught up with him. So ignore the advice here that says "wait". The moment you arrive, run down the sewer.

The cycle is 30 minutes between battles. The King waits at the sewer gate for 5 minutes (25 minutes per run). If other human players are on that quest at the same time, you will see them too. Be a good sport and tell them to use their least-skilled weapon.

Don't be caught in the tunnels when Thrall is "defeated" because the horde mobs will all reappear quickly.

Ignore the first boss (giant worm). It's fun to watch but doesn't help you skill-up your weapon (because you are usually hanging from his mouth). Instead, walk past him to the next group of mobs and skill-up on them while you wait for the King to catch up.

If you have them, bring Intellect scrolls, because they also affect your weapon-learning speed.

Another advantage to this strategy is you get to run this great quest all over again. It's very good.

The best trick while doing this quest is to cross the border into Silverpine. Look around for some horde. Have them chase you. When you cross back into Tirisfal, you disappear as if you have some super vanish ability. Reappear to them. Disappear. Reappear. Confuse them. If they attack, you'll be getting +9000 heals the moment you step into Tirisfal if Proudmoore is doing her healing gig at that time. You cant die! I'd like to see them fear me into Tirisfal!

This is a VERY disjointed quest chain.  I apologize if I’ve made any errors here.  It took a little CSI to get the parts and order down.  I think I have everything here.  Something I’d like to mention is that there is one or maybe two quests that you’ll get where there is nothing above the guy’s head that you have to talk to.  As you’re facing the Flighmaster in Wintergarde Keep, look to HIS right, there is a NPC standing under a tent-like structure.  Talk to him.  I did the first 5 quests in this series, went off and did other stuff when I found out about the Battle for Undercity.  When I came back to this, it was difficult to find where I left off because the stinking NPC didn’t have a “?” over his head.

      Step 9: The Noble's Crypt

By this point if you haven’t done the following 2 quests (they send you into the mine), do them now.  Somewhere in this quest chain, one of the follow up quests didn’t show up until I turned one of these.  I suspect it was “The Bleeding Ore”.  If for some reason you’re not able to get these yet, just keep checking back with the NPCs.  I did these further down the chain.

I loved this chain, especially the undercity part. Just make sure you stay with the two of them, dont stray too far away from the healing

Ok so I read through all the posts to see if anything like this happened to anyone else, and as far as i can tell it hasn't...

I was sitting there waiting for the battle to begin, and an 80 DK came out of nowhere.  I thought I was phased out and couldn't see anybody, but there he was, walking around wondering wtf was going on with all the alliance NPC's.  The battle started and he tagged along.  He got the buff and fought all the battles and was apparently just as phased out as I was.  I asked him several times if he had the quest and linked it to him, and he insisted that he didn't and that he'd never done or even heard of that quest before.

So we get to the Thrall part, start to fight, and get ported to SW.  I asked him a thousand questions trying to figure out what had happened, and even though it didn't help that he was a complete idiot (even for a DK), I got out of him that he was up there for the HH even, just ran across us, and jumped in.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else?  Was this a glitch, or can any alliance see it and jump in?  Does it matter whether or not they've done the quest?  Seemed very weird to me since Blizz's phasing thing is supposed to be based on whether you have a quest, or have/haven't completed a quest.  Any input would be much appreciated.

I'm having the same issue but the other way around, I've never accepted the quest (or been offered it as I recall) but when I went to Tirisal to boost a friend through SM I phase out and the the bods are at the entrance.

Waited about 50 minutes so far and the event doesnt actually start, just says "the enemy control the undercity".

As mentioned I have no quest in my log for this, if anyone has a workaround I'd be glad to hear it.

        Cheers

I contacted a GM as I was having the same issue. It turns out that as soon as you start this quest line Undercity and Orgrimmar become out of phase until you complete the quest line even if you abandon the quest line.

Okay, so i made it this far. Was killing the worm. and then for some reason, deleted the Quest. And really want to start it and finish it. Where the hell do i start it? Alex dragon guy, no help at all. i have to keep watching the damned video of Lich over and over. And no success. Is there more quests that lead to Reborn from Ashes?
