Drops from Skadi the Ruthless in heroic Utgarde Pinnacle

Okay, for one, Skadi is not the final boss of the dungeon, obviously that guy has never run it. Secondly, the reins are about 1% drop rate, ish, very low, as we've cleared it on heroic over a dozen times and haven even received both Skadi achievements on the same run, and it didnt drop.

allow me to list all of the rare northrend mounts that i know of:

Proto-Drakes:
Time-Lost Proto-Drake: 100% drop from Time-Lost Proto-Drake, a rare spawn that flies over Storm Peaks. Supposedly a rare version of the rare spawn Vyragosa.
Green Proto-Drake: Rare drop from Mysterious Egg and possibly Disgusting Jar, Oracles and Frenzyheart Tribe rep rewards
Blue Proto-Drake: Rare drop from Skadi the Ruthless, the third boss in heroic Utgarde Pinnacle
Red Proto-Drake: Reward for completing the achievement Glory of the Hero
Plagued Proto-Drake: Reward for completing the achievement Glory of the Raider NOTE: 310% SPEED
Black Proto-Drake: Reward for completing the achievement Heroic: Glory of the Raider
Violet Proto-Drake: Reward for completing the achievement What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been NOTE: 310% SPEED

I would like to know how many runs it took the people who are doing the instance everyday (farming) to get theirs?

I just did my 21st run and haven't seen it drop.

Everyday for the past 42 days I took people to UP and offered 1500g to each person to pass on it

Today three people got 1500g richer and one lied and rolled and LOST!

Looks like my Girlfriend.

He's not upset that a pug got it.  He's upset that the lowest dps got it and on top of that, can't use it atm since he doesn't have the flight training. 

I myself would be ticked if someone who didn't have the riding won it, but it's one of those rare mounts to where everyone should have the chance to roll on it, training or not.

LOL all you suckers saying someone should pass if they dont have their epic flying?  You guys are stupid and selfish, what if the dude was saving money for other shit and just chose not to get epic flying yet?  If a mount drops, anyone can roll on it, nuff said.

When the new Trial of Champions dungeon opened up, my fellow guildies and I decided to get a group together for downing the bosses on Heroic difficulty. The Black Knight put up a mighty fight, but it was nothing against us, since we had cleared Ulduar numerous times previous to this encounter and had gathered up enough gear for him to put not much less than a scratch on us. Deciding to try and get more emblem gear, we went off to do "Chain Heroics", starting with The Nexus, and  ending with Utgarde Pinnacle itself.

We all dreaded UP, especially Skadi. It wasn't that he was too powerful, but more so that it was a tedious fight. I was tanking the fight, but I still wasn't too familiar with the adds that rushed after us in the beginning. I beleive it was my 3rd visit to poor Skad, and for the rest of group, they seemed experienced with the fight. Or so I thought, haha. 

The mage was the first to go down, chilled to the core by the great Proto-drake's frost breath. The next was the feral druid; even under all of those layers of fur he had, it still couldn't protect him from the mighty Proto-drake's breath. I turned to look behind me, only to see that the Retribution Paladin had begun to fire his spears into the mighty beast, and saw that the rest of the group layed lifeless on the icy floor. I began to lose hope at that point, seeing as the group was weary from the 10 or so dungeons we had done previous to this one, and i was sure that it would break up after this. I could not fail! The huge drake, still somewhat impaled by the spears, dropped his master to the ground, and flew off. At this point the Paladin had died from the frost breath and it was just me and the druid healer. I began to change my seals around to both sustain mana and keep my health up, seeing as how the healer was losing mana quickly, and innervate was down. Skadi, still at half health from the pyro blasts the mage had cast at him earlier, began to enrage and swirl across the room in a whirlwind. He had noticed that the druid was behind my seemingly endless health, and had begun swirling towards him!

Keeping my taunt up, and my shield high, I began to build up mana, and eventually reached the point where i could pop all my CDs. After about 5 minutes of rough fighting, I struck the final blow with my Hammer of Wrath, and with almost a sigh of relief, Skadi fell to the hardened ground. While we were distributing the loot from King Ymiron and readying ourselves to set out once again, I heard a loud bellow in the distance; the Proto-drake was coming straight at us, and fast too!

The whole group ducked in cover while the beast landed behind us, but, when I realized that the drake wasn't here for a fight, I walked over to her and pulled the harpoons out of the great beast. Almost as if she was thanking me, she nudged me with her muzzle, and let me climb upon her. My groupmates looked on in amazement as I flew above Howling Fjord; what a magnificent feeling it was to had befriended this beast, and crazily enough, ride her!



SHORT VERSION: I won this epic flyer on Wedensday, August 5th, 2009. It was my third time ever running the instance, and the bosses were a bit different to me. I hadn't much experience with the instance, but with enough luck, managed to solo, or duo, if you will, Skadi and his drake with the healer. I looked up to see that everyone had rolled need on the mount, and after two seconds, i was overcome with joy that I had won the mount with roll of 87! As if that wasn't enough, I scrolled up to see that the mage had rolled an 86, and was amazed that i had won it.

Normally I have no luck, good or bad.  Except in WoW.  In WoW I normally have abysmal rolls.  Anytime something drops that needs rolling, I'm almost guarenteed to roll in the low 20's.  If that wasn't bad enough I'm prone to grouping with jerks.  So I rarely win equipment upgrades, and I get stuck with healers who won't res me (most recently happened today), tanks who won't wait for me to mana up, or Unholy DKs who think they can tank, etc.

Today was the first time I did H UP.  Guess what dropped?  Guess who won the roll?

I would presume the game was finally cutting me some slack, except guess who now has to put up with "Mage sucks!" taunts from the guild?
