This thing comes from and regular school of fish in Northrend,
so if you're going to farm it fish something that sells well like Nettlefish.
I have a guildie that got it in about an hour, but ive been fishing for about 16 hours now.
Good luck everyone
of course it was your last cast...
Every cast i make i think to my self 'this is going to be the last. I will NEVER fish in these waters again ffs!'
But then.. A Pygmy suckerfish comes into my life..
i finally got mine today, when it first came out i farmed for so long then i gave up. today the Pilgrims bounty holiday went live so i got my cooking up to northrend skill so i went out to farm some fish in order to max out after about a little less than an hour, i was fishing in an imperial manta ray pool just listening to music i had autoloot and i literally jumped out of my chair when i saw the sea turtle in the loot box, i only had my "Nats lucky fishing pole" and "weather beaten fishing hat" on, no lures, 450 skill

According to WoWWiki "Fishing Pools" ARE Schools of Fish.
http://www.wowwiki.com/Fishing_pool
Which makes sense because I don't consider fishing in the wide open ocean a "pool". But fishing in a tiny little pool WITHIN the ocean, that makes more sense.
:)
Per Patch 3.1.1
"You can now fish anywhere, regardless of skill. Every catch has the potential for fishing skill gains, but you are likely to catch worthless junk in areas that are too difficult for your skill."
This would lead me to believe that yes you could probably pull it up but your chance is going to be very low.
I was out fishing mats for fish feasts
when I bumped into this fella.
I waded out into the shallows and there
I waited three days and three nights till all manner of sea-
creature came and acclimated to my presence.
And on the fourth morning I roped myself a couple of sea turtles,
harnessed them together and made a raft.
Also: Human hair... From my back.
You, sir, have made my day.
im now praying to the thottbot gods....
oh great magestic thottbot gods, PLEASE bless me with a beautiful Sea Turtle of my own, i promise 2 never gank lvl 58 DKs in hellfire if you do.
YES.....the thottbot gods DO listen!! literally 30minutes after i posted i got this baby, it frustrated me so much though, that i decided to jump off a cliff just to hear the damn thing scream in pain....does that make me strange??
Ok i've found out ALOT of tips for you guys
1st! best fishing spot is SE of unu'pe in borean tundra The best place in northrend for fishing for deep sea monsterbellys and moonglow cuttlefish and around 15 pools there fully spawned
2ND place is howling fjord south west of the tauren camp uptop (forgot the name)
3RD best is sholozar basin rivers heart
Tips!
You can only get the sea turtle with fish You cannot get it with grey items if you pick those up driftwood rock tangled fishing line and weeds
A few things
The best place for actually world of warcraft is the 1st place i listed up top i posted 15-20 pools there and not many people fishing there. And you cannot get it from the fishing coins place in dalaran and not out at sea YOU CAN ONLY GET IT FROM SCHOOLS OF FISH I repeat YOU CAN ONLY GET IT FROM SCHOOLS OF FISH! its possible to get at any lvl! and you can get it at any lvl fishing!! Will just need lures and all the stuff you can get at lvl 1 but its possible!
Hope this helps! Vbede

I got this Email after Missing a GM's answer to my ticket:
Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department.
Petition: I have 2 questions about the Sea Turtle Mount.
1. Do you have to fish in schools, or can it be fished from any Northrend water?
2. If it can be fished from open water, Is the drop rate higher in schools?
Answer: I would like to inform you that when fishing for the sea turtle mount you need to fish in schools of fish and not open water and the drop rate doesn't change depending on location either.
that is ingame information, a gm wont give that to you
Caught mine in the Grizzly Hills from a Glacial Salmon school.
Took roughly 3k casts in Northrend schools :\
This is kind of an interesting story.
My account was hacked Tuesday morning before maintenance and I lost a lot of items and gold. I called Blizzard to get my password and email reset. After maintenance, I logged in to see the damage done and I put in a petition to get my items restored.
Two days later, I was still feeling depressed about it. I'd been selling off whatever items were left in my banks to get enough gold for playing until my items were restored. I went to VOA and we killed Emalon. Not many were interested in Archavon, but we killed him anyway because he was there. Reins of the Grand Black War Mammoth dropped, and I won it with a 63! Someone in guild commented I was getting some good juju after having my account hacked.
A few hours later, I'm farming Glacial Salmon on my Mage because it's the fish that sells for the most in our AH. Not even ten minutes into it, I loot something with blue text and an achievement pops up on my screen. I had no idea what it was and it was very unexpected to see a blue item. I took a closer look to see what I'd looted and was stunned to see the Sea Turtle in my inventory!
The guild member from earlier told me I definitely needed to go farm the Baron's mount because I had something good going on. Well, I had farmed the Baron's mount numerous times with no luck. Countless times before patch 3.0, 249 times on my Hunter post-patch 3.0, and about 4 times on my Mage. But I decided to give it a go and headed to EPL. I decided beforehand that I wasn't going to wear myself ragged trying to farm the mount like I had in the past and would only kill him 3 to 5 times each day. I killed him three times that night with no luck. I killed him 4 or 5 times the following day. Nothing. Today, I went back and killed him 4 or 5 times, and the mount dropped! I was ecstatic to finally have that stupid Deathcharger.
So now I'm farming Reins of the Raven Lord off of Anzu. Hopefully I'll get lucky. :)

..now i want to get hacked. Never thought i'd ever say that.
i dont raid anymore i just sit in Ironforge on this thing
They've fixed the turtle is seems, Now when you press spacebar and the mount isnt moving it will pop into its shell for a few moments then pop back out. so cute =)
There seems to be a lot of rumors how this drops and I hope this clarifies things.
First, there are no quests you have to do to get this as a drop. There are no pre-requisites. It's just a low drop rate in Northrend fishing schools. You CANNOT fish this up in open water. The drop is 100% random. So you could be one of those lucky people who gets it in 10 casts or one of the people who get it in 7000 casts.
The higher your skill the better, simply for the fact that you will get less junk. You could theoretically fish this up with a low level fishing. But I wouldn't recommend it. Most of the time you'll be fishing up grey junk. Not to say you won't occassionally land a fish, but I am gonna bet getting a turtle with a real low fishing skill is rare. This was my rule.
Junk is bad.
I do not know for sure if you can get the Sea Turtle with junk items, but I don't think so. I believe you can only get the Turtle while ACTUALLY catching something, not junk. Regardless I didn't want to bet on it or limit my chances of catching the turtle in any way, so I always put lures on and drank the Captain's Lager. I also didn't fish much in high level fishing areas because constantly fishing up junk wouldn't help me reach my goal.
Theoretically I supposed if you're hardcore farming for the mount you're more likely to fish up a Sea Turtle in an area which requires 475 fishing, simply because you are getting less junk. I personally fished my turtle up in a 500 fishing area with a 590 skill...
Gear
There are a lot of things that help with farming a Sea Turtle, especially if you end up sitting there for hours doing it.
There are the 100% necessary items...
* Fishing Pole
* Bag Space
* Find Fish Skill (Learned from fishing up a Weather Beaten Journal from a floating wreckage pool... Best place to find those are in STV.)
Along with things that can increase your normal skill...
* Lures (I carried +75 and +100 lures I had laying around)
* Fishing Gear with Skill Bonuses (Hats, Boots, etc)
* Captain Rumsey Lager (Fishing Food for +10 fishing, random drop from Fishing Daily)
As well as some things that help increase your speed when moving from pool to pool...
* Flying/Riding Mount Skill
* Water Walking Potion (Shamans' water walking ability or Death Knight's "Path of Frost". It's juat useful to just mount up on water and run to the next pool.)
* Swim Speed Potions (I personally didn't use this)
* Glyphs with speed increase (Rogue's "Glyph of Blurred Speed" or Warlock's "Glyph of Unending Breathing")
* Hook of the Master Angler Trinket (Reward from Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Extravaganza turns you into a Frenzy fish that can swim 35% faster)
* Sea Turtle Mount (Oh wait, nevermind... lol)
And some silly things to keep you sane...
* Savory Deviate Delight (Food that turns you into a pirate... It's helps keep you amused... Arrr!)
* Friends/Guildies/Someone to talk to
* Watching TV or listening to music while fishing
Finally the recommended...
* Patience
* Knowledge
Patience, well, that's up to you. I'm a bit impatient at times fished over the span of 3 weeks playing on and off. Knowledge, hopefully I help out there. :)
Fishing Pools
Here are the fishing pools you can hit up in Northrend and the minimum skill needed to fish without much trash. I always had more skill than needed for the area (590-ish fishing modified)
475 Fishing
* Borean Man O' War School (coastal Borean Tundra)
* Dragonfin Angelfish School (inland Dragonblight)
* Fangtooth Herring School (inland Howling Fjord)
* Glacial Salmon School (inland Grizzly Hills)
* Imperial Manta Ray School (coastal Borean Tundra, Dragonblight, Grizzly Hills and Howling Fjord)
* Musselback Sculpin School (inland Borean Tundra)
500 Fishing
* Glassfin Minnow School (Crystalsong Forest)
525 Fishing
* Nettlefish School (inland Sholazar Basin)
575 Fishing
* Deep Sea Monsterbelly School (The Frozen Sea)
* Moonglow Cuttlefish School (The Frozen Sea)
Strategy
Personally this is what I did...
I fished on and off over the span of 3 weeks with probably a grand total of 10 hours and 3000+ casts. I watched TV and fished while listening for the bobber or achievement noise for catching the Turtle. I kept using lures and lager to increase my skill to around 590. I also kept chugging water walking potions (my alchemist guildie made stacks of them for me) so I didn't have to worry about mobs or players on the shore attacking me. Surprisingly I was only attacked once during my whole time farming for the mount. Most of the alliance were respectful enough to leave me alone and I returned the favor. Messing with people while they farm for this isn't really cool. The potions also made finding places to fish by hard to reach spots much easier to do as you can fish on the water around the fishing pool. That's less time spent looking for a place to land ti position yourself and more time looking for more pools.
I hit up the area around the Frozen Sea below Unu'pe (Borean Tundra), Crystalsong Forest, and Howling Fjord mainly. Unu'pe was cool because there was a lot of pools in a concentrated area and one of the Northrend Fishing Dailies takes you here, however this was a higher level to fish and I tended to get more junk. Crystalsong Forest was good because Glassfin Minnow can be turned into water walking potions by an achemist and I rarely got junk. And Howling Fjord was cool because I ended up fishing up a Dark Herring very easily here for "One That Didn't Get Away" fishing achievement and I rarely got junk. You can fish these areas too, but you may want to explore a little. You may want to farm one area. You get to learn where all the pools are, but I recommend exploring Northrend.
Besides I think moving around helps to break up the boredom. Sitting around fishing the same area over and over can get tiring. But also it helps to have familiar areas to go to in case any area has a lot of other people farming. I personally ended up fishing mine up in Crystalsong Forest.
The best advice I can give you if you're actively pursuing this mount is don't expect to be one of the people who get it in 5 casts. Those people are lucky. Be patient. Sometimes things like this take time. Your best bet going into this is having an expectation that you most likely will have to throw down thousands of casts. And if you get it quickly then look at it as a pleasant surprise and count yourself as one of the lucky ones. :)
Good Luck Everyone!

About 6 hours now...I want to shoot myself.
EDIT: I just watched someone catch it in the minnow school next to me. Please, shoot me now.
So....I fished it up by accident...right when i was going to click on the damn turtle my levitate went out (I'm a priest) and my loot box disappeared. Shoot me. =[

THIS TURTLE DROPS IN ANY FISHING POOL, AND HAS THE SAME DROP RATE IN EVERYONE!
Thottbot says that its highest percentage dropped is in Deepsea monsterbelly pools because some idiot said that they had the best drop, but in a reality all pools have the same drop rate!
The reason these pools "appear" to have a higher drop rate is because when people saw that someone said its dropped highest in these pools thats the only place they looked.
Personally for those turtle hunters out there i would suggest farming the salmon pools in GH because there are lots of them.
The biggest problem that was presented with this false knowledge is that deepsea monsterbelly pools are not very common and can only be found in one place, so with people thinking their best chance to catch them is in these pools they farm them relentlessly, making it harder on other wow fishermen to complete the daily where you must find the mosterbelly with the guys arm in it.
So do yourself and everyone else a favor and dont go looking for the turtle in stupid places, THE DROP RATE IS THE SAME IN EVERY POOL, yes the ocean seems like an ideal place but this is WoW and not many things make sense if you were to look at it from a logical sence like how the ebon griphon flies to instance, it doesnt have any type of wind resistence to hold itself in the air, but anyways /getting back on topic, dont fish up all the monsterbellies, its quite annoying to not be able to complete a fishing daily when you have determined allis on their epic flyers hunting down every monsterbelly pool and fishing it up as it responds.
So if u dont understand it is as simple as EVERY POOL HAS THE SAME DROP RATE, i kno ive been ranting but this has been ticking me off and ive decided i might as well stop the problem at its source, so if i have to i will carve SAME DROP RATE IN EVERY POOL into a wooden stick and hit you in the head with it until you come to your senses.
If u guys dont have your own life just go GRIND IT
otherwise just do fishing dailys everyday and if you dont have 450 cooking go fish up some mats
You should DO SOMETHING everytime...not just sitting and waiting for nothing
4 little fact people might want to know about the Sea Turtle.
1. Mounted LAND speed is 0% faster then running (makes sence, you are on a turtle).
2. Mounted SWIMMING speed is 60% faster then running.
3. You can only farm these out of Northrend fishing pools, but no specific pool has a higher drop rate.
4. No specific level of fishing is required.
I suggest that if you are starting to grind a new toon's fishing, then find a place that has lots of pools and a fishing trainer near by. Grind your leveling in the fishing pools. When fishing out of pools, if you pull up junk, it does not disipate the pool. They will only disapear when you pull up usable items. A good place to do this (for alliance, possibly for horde as well, but none of my horde are high enough lvl to know for sure), is south of Unu'pe, in the Frozen Sea (this area also has the highest lvl req for fishing, so you will lvl fastest here). There is a fishing trainer in Valliance Keep, so as you lvl you can get your training with minimal downtime (this is a great past time for thos who are already 80 and geared, just waiting around for the next raid). Fishing can be a lucrative way to make money, fish feasts sell for decent gold, but the mats for them sell for more. And the fishing daily has a chance to drop all the top gems (30stam, 20ag, 20str, 23sp, 20int, 20hit, 20spi) which sell for 600-1500G, plus lots of other good items such as the porcelain bell which vendors for 100G. To see all other prizes from the fishing daily, go to this link:

GL getting your mounts :)
fishing log: day 3-ish
all i hear echoing in my mind is the distant turtle's call, I threaten to deflate my entire server's fish market with my perseverance, but i know you're out there...somewhere.
I fished this mount today out of Fangtooth Herring School (Howling Fjord - Caldemere Lake only). Fishing Skill 450+120.
I am fishing those schools for Dark Herring, but no luck on that fish yet, still i got the Sea Turtle Mount.
Here are my calculations:
Total time fished in Fangtooth Herring School: 3:22:00
Total Fish Caught: 715
Fangtooth Herring: 383 - 53,56643357%
Pygmy Suckerfish: 299 - 41,81818182%
Crystallized Water: 21 - 2,937062937%
Reinforced Crate: 11 - 1,538461538%
Sea Turtle: 1 - 0,13986014%
Good luck.

I've been trying for this for a few weeks now, fishing in 1-2 hour "batches" every few days. I maxed fishing to 375 in TBC so hit 450 before I'd even started on this achievement. So far I've had no luck after 1100 casts but I'm trying to avoid "grinding" this achievement, because I find fishing can be fun in small doses. I just put the TV on next to me, stick one headphone in and listen out for the bobber while I watch TV and chill out.
A few words of warning about the thottbot entires for this, thott intrinsically attracts comments from people with extreme expereiences, such as those who caught it in 10 minutes, and those who've spent weeks and thousands of casts with no luck. Often, the bulk of people fall smack bang in the middle but are amazingly under-represented on here, because who wants to post their "average" experience of a quest/item/achievment etc.
I suspect (anecdotally) that all the "rare" fishing drops have the same droprate of 0.1% (1 in 1000 chance). By this I mean old crafty, ironjaw, giant sewer rat and this mount. Although some people will get them on the first cast, and some after 1000s, if you average each achievement literally everyone that I've spoken to in game have averaged out at 1 in 1000 overall.
So simple maths says that if its 0.1% and you can cast 3 times a minute, then you can potentially expect to spend about 5-6 hours doing each fishing achievement. The trouble with this one that makes it worse than crafty, ironjaw and the rat is that this requires you to fish in pools, making 3 casts a minute very ambitious and making this longer as a consequence.
Hang in there and it will come eventually, just dont work yourself up about it. WoW is a game thats meant to be fun, grinding is what your supposed to do at work, not at home!
Mine just dropped this morning from a nettlefish school in scholozar after I was too cheap to buy a stack of nettlefish from the AH when I only needed 3
I have a Fishing skill of 182 and im lvl 74 yeah yeah i know but what ever THE DROP RATE IN EVERY SCHOOL IS THE SAME is correct its not about skill its about luck..... and this is how i know......After three hours of getting ganked by a 80 mage and a 80 pally i decided to unwind and cry about losing my dailies and went fishing i found a glacial salmon pool not to far from amber pine lodge in grizzly hills. MY FIRST AND ONLY CAST was THE SEA TURTLE MOUNT..... Its not about the perfect spot or ur fishing skill or even the crap u got to give bonus to skill i used a plain fishing pole and had no lures or rum and didn't read any book . i just wanted to left alone so i cld hate the horde ppl for being assholes all the time..... just for refernce im on the fizzcrank server.
Haven't posted on Thot in a LOOOOONG time... stopped playing WoW before BC came out and just started back on an all new toon. But I had to post this, it's too good.
I just hit 70 on Monday, 8/3 (the day before flying mounts became available at 60- tyvm Blizz.) and I already got my fishing to 450. I got my first dalaran fishing daily and took off for BT to get back that severed arm. My very first cast in Northrend lands me a turtle mount. My Guild Leader hates me. Second cast lands me the bloated monsterbelly. :)
Had to share. /rides off on his turtle.
Also, I cast before I remembered to use my fishing lure... so I caught it with no bait and using Nat P's pole. No other modifiers at all.
EDIT#2: I turned in the daily, my first dalaran fishing daily mind you, got 6g, 2pearls a 25g painting and the Jeweled Fishing Pole... I'm off to buy a lottery ticket.
I was fishing on a cool summer day, drinking a cold beer and eating a ham and cheeze sandwich. When I felt a slight tug on the line, I played this fish with care, I wanted no mistakes.
It was really putting up a fight. I tried to get her close to shore, I wanted to shoot her with my bow to help end this madness. The fight seemed to last for many hours, my hands were bleeding, I was calling for help, cursing at the top of my lungs. My wife was yelling, dog was howling, baby crying. I spilled my damn beer, sandwich fell into he cold sea.
Finally as I was getting ready to pass out I landed this beautiful dame Monster Belly. Oh well...here goes another cast.
Good Luck to you...I'm not having any.
Author of the sad fish story.....
My luck finally changed and I landed the Sea Turtle at Coldwind Pass from an Imperial Manta Ray school.
The coment in the previous post is absolutly corect. When you
see it you freeze, you don't believe your eyes. It was my most cautious mouse click to date.
I was starting to doubt that it actually still existed.
Good luck to all.
FINALLY GOT THIS BAD BOY.
After more than 1200+ Fish Feasts, (thats 4600 fish)
30+ stacks of Black Jelly (That's 1800 borean Man O' Wars),
5400+ Pygmy Suckerfish,
2800+ Fangtooth Herring
600+ Moonglow Cuttlefish
600+ Deep Sea monsterbelly
400+ Glassfin Minnow
200+ Dragonfin
6 Dark Herring
Finally on my 10031 cast from a Musselback Sculpin pool in Borean Tundra... OH GAWD FINALLY!!!! I caught this bad boy.
10031 casts... I hate this game... I'm gonna start playing Hello Kitty Online Adventure...
I got mine after 1400 fish from schools. Was flooding the auction house with glacial salmon, and went down to howling fyord to finish my explorer title. Fished up a few fangtooth schools while there and finally got the mount.
A few tips for those who are farming:
- The drop rate is about 0.1% - 0.05%. So if you have an average experience plan on fishing 1000-2000 fish from schools.
- You need to fish from schools to get the mount, so go someplace with a steady supply of schools to fish from to reduce down time between casts. The best areas for this purpose are the southern coast of Northrend, the main river in grizzly hills, and the interlocking network of rivers and ponds in sholozar basin. You will probably need to fish up hundreds or thousands of fish to get the mount, so I suggest fishing the nettlefish from sholozar or the glacial salmon in grizzly hills. These sell for more money at AH because they are an ingredient for fish feasts. If you are going to spend all these hours fishing you may as well make some gold.
- You don't need any particular fishing skill level, but you won't get the turtle from trash, so I higher skill level improves your chances.
- The first thing I did when I finally got this mount was jump off a cliff in icecrown, just to hear the sound of the turtle in pain. People go crazy farming for this mount. Fishing for hours at a time becomes extremely dull, and video games are suppose to be fun, not a chore. Divide your farming of this mount up into hour blocks and you'll get the mount without wanting to turn on you chef title and cook turtle soup.
Good fishing everyone. Whisper me on Arathor server if you want to see the mount or need any tips.
Hey all, just a note to say that I finally got my Sea Turtle mount on the 25th October at approx 2135hrs. I'm on the Nagrand Server.
Spent about 7 days fishing (between 2 and 6 hours each day) and basically not much else, levelling my fishing in 'schools' of fish in Northrend from about 120 to max (450)before it dropped for me.
I fished in every area in Northrend and finally caught it in a school of Fangtooth Herring in Grizzly Hills. I was getting so frustrated with this I even ticketed a GM to rant about the rubbish drop rate :) He was very nice and patient with me and told me to stick with it, so I did and was rewarded about an hour and a half later.
I was using the Kulu'ak Fishing Pole + Sharpened Fish Hook + Captain Rumsey's Lager to give me a combined fishing skill of 590.
Total fish caught for me was 1916.
What is wierd is that for a week I eagerly awaited the loot box to show and reveal the turtle, obviously disappointed every time it didn't, and at the exact point when I was preoccupied with something else and not expecting it, the turtle dropped! I whooped with delight - and awoke the kids, thus getting me in hot water with my wife.
All turtle hunters - stick with it and you will get your mount. By all means follow the advice within these pages but realise it is a random drop so no amount of pattern-hunting will make things easier or quicker - masses of patience is all that is required.
Another quick note, I was making more cash from fish sales - mostly Musselback Sculpin and Glacial Salmon - in the AH on a daily basis than I would by doing 25 daily quests at level 80 :)
Happy turtle hunting.
I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice... I got the mount finally... it didnt take as long at i thought but long enough to just piss me off... i caught him just SE of Unu'pe in Borean Tundra, just off the coast!! My fishing was only at 310 and it only took me a total of 2.5 hours... 2 hours the first day and 30 min the second day...
53 hours, 23 minutes, 50 seconds fishing in northrend pools. Still nothing :( (No it wasn't in one sitting.)
I created an account just to comment on this mount. I've been fishing since the day it came out casually fishing an hour or 2 here few hours there and have caught almost 40k fish and still no luck I'm hoping for some luck by posting GL to all farming gratz to those who have it.
Ouch, sorry man, it does still exist! My brother caught it yesterday! On a side note he fishes about a half hour a day, just because he enjoys it. So he's put his fair amount of fishing in.
Sea Turtle, Sea Turtle...where can you be?
I've fished and fished...I hear you calling me!!
I solemnly promise to fish for your food;
I've built you a stable, I will be good.
Nettlefish, dragonfin, deep sea monsters, and all;
Pretty minnows with fins of glass, large and small.
Here's hoping the Thottbot Gods are still in tune
With Wow's Gods of Fortune and I catch you soon!!
Fishing for Dragonfin Angelfish for some buff food at Indu'le Lake in Dragonblight
Auto-Loot was on and all of a sudden the achievement came up...I said to myself, NO WAY! Could it be?
Yup, the Sea Turtle was finally mine!
Good Luck to everyone still after it.
Why the hell is this quest green !!??
I just can't get the quest reward WTF IS THAT ! @ #$@$#@$$@$
FWIW, I fished mine up today in a pool of Nettlefish at River's Heart. My skill was about 378 or 380, and I had a glowworm on (in addition to using Seth's Graphite pole), so fishing was at +120.
I wasn't back in Dalaran for more than 30 seconds before I got a whisper from someone saying they "loved my mount". Be prepared for comments when you ride your turtle around!
Does it stack with other abilities that increase swim speed?
I know there are a few enchants, and the warlock glyph also increases swim speed.
